Goblin Guide and Eidolon of the Great Revel . . . best friends forever? Since we Journeyed into Nyx this dynamic duo has been elevating Burn strategies closer and closer to tier one. Whether the format is Legacy or Modern, this tag team, with Grim Lavamancer as the third wheel, marches straight down your throat and sets it on fire. In Legacy, the solidification of 4 Guides, 4 Eidolons and 3 Lavamancers has been moving Burn decks closer and closer to an industry standard stock list.

In Modern, the absence of Wasteland allows the deck to take on a bizarre new twist and play just about as many colors as it wants. Since you're the beatdown and Lightning Helix mitigates the damage you're taking, you can afford to play a pile of shocklands to splash black for Bump in the Night and white for Boros Charm and Lightning Helix. This even opens up your sideboard to play just about any card you could want. Rain of Gore and Rakdos Charm are pretty common inclusions and it's understandable why that is. Rain of Gore nerfs all of the best sideboard cards from your opponents and Rakdos Charm is versatile enough to come in against several archetypes. Beyond that, you can get as crazy as you want. Chipper Doudican, who took second in a PTQ with this list, opted for a playset of Destructive Revelries. With access to most of the color pie you can get as spicy as you can take it.

Regardless of the format or the build you want to play, Guide and Eidolon are Burn’s naughty poster children for the foreseeable future. Goblin Guide scouts the party and Eidolon shows up and sets a couch on fire while the pair of them counts to twenty in creepy unison. Deal with it.
