Here is a midrangey build containing many ranks of the undead. Yes, my tribe is Zombies! This build takes a different approach – many other zombie builds will use sacrifice effects and Raise Dead-type spells to grind out card advantage. This build eschews that strategy and uses the Frankenstein’s Monster-esque Skaab from Innistrad to power out large undead threats for small amounts of mana. Gurmag Angler is a perfect fit in this strategy, and proves that while Innistrad’s stitchers may build fearsome monsters, the Gurmag swamp still reanimates the scariest (common) zombies in the multiverse.

Sultai Emissary is fantastic in this deck, because, if you are lucky, you can manifest one of your big Skaabs and not even have to worry about digging up spare limbs when it enters the battlefield! Brainstorm can help that luck along occasionally, as well as helping you – along with Thought Scour, Necromancer’s Assistant, Armored Skaab, etc – to decide which bodies to keep, and which ones would be better parted out and attached to other, more sturdy frames. The “Distant Melody” your opponents will hear is nothing but the hollow moaning of your decaying, reanimated army!
