— Oath of the Kobold Musketeers
The Kobolds live in Kher Keep, a fortress in the mountainous region Kher Ridges in the former Fallaji territory of eastern Terisiare on Dominaria. The mountains of Kher Ridges divide the Western Desert (west from Argive and Korlis) from the Great Desert in the interior of Terisiare. Known locations within the Kher Ridges include the Caves of Koilos and the Kobold lair known as Kher Keep. Notably, the word Kher is said to mean big mountain in the goblin tongue.
The Kobolds seem to be incredibly resilient since they survived for centuries in their lair, unafflicted by the disasters that ravaged the other parts of Dominaria. Entire regions were destroyed by the kobolds, but not because of their superior battle tactics... When kobolds are hungry enough, they will eat anything that isn't made of rock.
The Kobolds of Kher Keep survived into the period of the Terisian Isles, and came to worship the dragon Prossh as a god. They are known to offer themselves to the dragon in the hope that he will spare their kin. However, Prossh is a predatory machine, and the death of his "allies" just makes him stronger. Prossh now dominates the Kher region of Dominaria, and each day at dawn, he takes to the skies, tracking his prey and monitoring the lands he claims as his own. The sound of the dragon's wings in the distance sends many of his subjects into a panic, scrambling for shelter that can withstand his dragon fire. He is known to level entire villages just to punish a single hunter who strayed into his territory. Those who don't pay tribute to him are burned alive.
For the Kobolds, the core tenant of the religion is to act in a way befitting of their deity — mainly pillaging, burning, and spreading terror in their wake. Indeed, it is believed that kobolds who live up to these ideals will be reborn as a dragon hatched from one of Prossh's eggs.
The leader of the Kobolds of the Kher Ridges is the legendary Kobold Rohgahh of Kher Keep. One day, Rohgahh had a new idea: the best way to be like his god was to become one himself. From that moment on, he assumed the role of tyrant, demanding tribute and sacrifice equal to what was offered to Prossh. Rograkh, Rohgahh's son, could not bear to watch his father pillage his own people. Not when there were so many other people they could be pillaging instead. His son now leads a resistance against him in attempt to return the kobolds of Kher keep to the path of righteousness.
