B/W Tokens is an engine deck that tries to establish an overwhelming board presence, and answer the opponent’s problematic flyers or planeswalkers with removal. Usually the games you win have you attacking with a bunch of tokens, but the actual attacking is typically a formality after you’ve established control.

In this deck we incorporate the 2-card combo with Lich's Mastery and Approach of the Second Sun as an alternate win con (or winning the games it much quicker fashion). The opponent will never see this coming!

Therefore we have to tailor-suit our removals slightly so that we can gain life along the way and not just play bad lifegain cards. Moment of Craving replaces Fatal Push and Vraska's Contempt replaces Ixalan's Binding / Cast Out. And we get to keep Fumigate.

Hidden Stockpile is by far the most important card in the deck. Anointed Procession tends to get a lot of the credit because it’s so flashy, but games where you cast a turn-2 Stockpile are the easiest.

Start // Finish is one of the key cards and I think it is actually essential to making the deck work by giving you a much better chance of flipping Legion’s Landing in games where you don’t have Hidden Stockpile. It’s also worth noting that Finish can help enable revolt if you have Stockpile and need to remove a threat but don’t want to spend mana scrying.

Anointer Priest do double duty. In the early game she helps us gain life and blocks well. In the late game with Lich's Mastery out, she draws us tons of cards.

Renegade Map and Evolving wilds are your fetchlands and they’re important for giving you a free revolt trigger with Hidden Stockpile in play. For that reason, you often want to not play Evolving Wilds until the later turns in your land-heavy hands and don’t really want to crack Renegade Maps until you’re actually in danger of missing a land drop.

Memorial to glory is a new DOM addition that triggers revolt and also makes tokens.

Lich's Mastery is such a powerful card. We have endless token permanents to exile and lots of lifegain to draw cards. I can only think of 2 cards in the whole Standard format that can remove this on the battlefield, and they are River's Rebuke and Hour of Revelation which are fringe cards. The risk is there, but it is worth the gamble.

The sideboard is pretty much the bog standard for B/W Control style decks. Blood Fast and discard are still the go-to weapons against control decks, along with Profane Procession, which is ridiculously strong against Grixis, G/B, and U/B decks. It’s still legendary and mana hungry though, so 2 is about the max you’d want in the deck. Lost Legacy is one of the only ways you can beat Approach of the Second Sun decks. Along with Duress for discard.

Against aggro, we are actually quite strong game one, but authority of the consuls and sunscourge champion can help shore up these matches.

All hail the Lich King!
