Origin:

When I started playing Magic at the 1990‘s, one my first Legends was Ertai, Wizard Adept. Till today he is my favourite card. Later, when I started playing Commander, my first Commander was Zur the Enchanter till I heard that he was banned as a Commander. So I decided to reconstruct the deck to a Ertai, the Corrupted deck and it was the the best decision.

Main strategy:

The main strategy is winning by combat damage from enchanted creatures. Till I get to that point, the Counterspell-Engine helps to gain time. To keep this Engine working you need cards, which can return themselves from the graveyard like Fallen Ideal, Spirit Loop or Master of Death or cards which can produce Tokens like Elenda the Dusk Rose, Hanweir Militia Captain // Westvale Cult Leader or Pawn of Ulamog.

Alternative win options:

Except for Infect by Plague Myr or Phyresis, what both also works about combat damage, Ertai doesn't have alternative Win Options.

Synergies & Combos:

Ertai, the Corrupted + Lullmage Mentor = infite creatures to sacrifice for countering spells.

Ertai, the Corrupted + Freed from the Real or Pemmin's Aura + Ophiomancer = The possibility to counter at least one spell in each opponent's turn.

Ertai, the Corrupted + Freed from the Real or Pemmin's Aura + Reassembling Skeleton = The possibility to counter at least one spell in each opponent's turn.

Any Card that let me sacrifice creatures like Ertai, the Corrupted, Fallen Ideal or Phyrexian Tower + Gift of Immortality + a creature with ETB like Archaeomancer, Baleful Strix or Thalia's Lancers = Reusing ETBs.

Vizier of Tumbling Sands + Freed from the Real or Pemmin's Aura + Lotus Field = Infinite Untap and Infinite Mana.
