The Equestrian Warrior

This is the second deck that my wife vocalized that she wanted to make. She plays the Cats deck that I have listed here (Felis Incursio), and she was seeking a change after a long time playing with Arahbo, Roar of the World. The simplest way to describe this deck is, Boros. You want to swing with it and you want to swing early and try to slice out dangerous targets quickly with Commander Damage. In the more complex nuances of the deck, you have several things synergies and combos at your disposal to make this deck fun and power level controlled based on how competitive you are feeling on your game night.

Theme

Aggro Voltron is the primary theme within this deck. You want to drop out Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh and put as much gear on him as you can. Even if you cannot gear him up by turn two, you still have his trusty steed, Keleth, Sunmane Familiar. This allows you to attack on turn two ans still have the start of commander damage on an opponent. This can quickly snowball once you start the voltron train. The sub theme to this deck is wombo-combo. Explained further below: Infinite Combat, Infinite Mana, and Infinite Damage.

Combos

Infinite Combat: Neheb, the Eternal + Aggravated Assault

  • How Does It Work: So this works just like you would think it does. You need to have, at minimum, one opponent lose a total of 5 life. Neheb covers 4 of this and with your commanders, you can make up the last one damage. This damage does not need to be from a single player though, it just needs to be 5 total life lost. This will be converted to 5 red mana by Neheb, which you spend on AA to get another combat step, followed by an additional post combat main phase. This mana is cumulative, meaning that if the opponents lose another 5 life you will then get 10 red mana. This steam rolls into infinite combat steps and subsequently and lot of red mana.

Infinite Mana: Koll, the Forgemaster + Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh + Grafted Wargear + Phyrexian Altar

  • How Does It Work: This is one of the more complex things to pull off in this deck but it is not expensive, 8 mana total (R, W, and 6). This works by using Koll's ability to return an equipped (or enchanted) non token creature to your hand upon death. Equipment are what we care about in this deck, they do not go to your graveyard when a creature dies like auras. The G. Wargear equips for 0 and ol'Rograkh casts for 0. Here is the loop: First, have the pieces on the battlefield; Second, equip Rograkh with the Wargear; Third, sacrifice him to the altar and make mana; Fourth, return him to your hand because of Kol; Fifth, recast him and re-equip him; Sixth, repeat steps 2 through 5. That is it, you now have an infinite mana loop.

Infinite Damage: Koll, the Forgemaster + Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh + Grafted Wargear + Goblin Bombardment

  • How Does It Work: This combo runs the exact same shell as the infinite mana shell above. The only stand in is you are using the bombardment, which nets you damage to any target instead of mana. This is fine though, who needs mana when you win by shooting down everyone with infinite damage from a loop.

Synergies

Crackle with Power: This is really the only winning X spell in the deck to dump your infinite mana. Again this deck is designed for my wife and she is not too keen on combos and needs help as she continues to learn how to play. Feel free to make some cuts and add in more infinite mana sinks. Things like Jaya's Immolating Inferno or Fireball, you could even use Aetherflux Reservoir because you are recasting your commander over and over.

Jeska, Thrice Reborn: I guess we can technically say that this is another infinite mana sink. You can use her ability to have loyalty equal to the times you've cast your commander form the command zone. Once you have infinite mana you can just keep sacrificing your commander to the command zone and then cast her and make her enter with a substantial number of loyalty counters. Then you -X her and burn our your opponents that way. Aside form that her triple damage ability is very nice with your commander who is difficult enough to block with menace and with trample.

Stone Haven Outfitter: When you use the infinite mana loop and this is on the board you can dig through your deck to find your answers that you are looking for. This will allow you to cast your entire library.

Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar: This little cutie is damn terrifying when you have something that helps Rograkh deal a lot more damage. Jeska above make him deal triple damage to target opponent. Kediss here makes your commander, that is the key your commander, deal damage to each other opponent equal to the damage dealt to a single player. So with Jeska on board and Rograkh at 7 you one shot a single player with commander damage and will deal 21 damage to each other opponent left. If you were, to say, have Grafted Exoskeleton while Kediss is out and you swing with Rograhk with 10 power, you just killed each player with poison counters.

Conclusion

Basically this simple Boros Aggro commander is a kind of tool box Voltron mix with a little wombo-combo that lends itself to players that like to be hyper aggressive; but it has the ability to last in the mid game. You have the complexity needed to make it fun while keeping itself simple so newer players can pick it up and learn to play pretty easily. There is a couple of cards that I would cut from it. I would start with Embercleave, Fervent Champion, Moraug, Fury of Akoum, Shatterskull Smashing, and maybe Relic Axe or Sword of the Animist. Adding more X burn spells, Swiftblade Vindicator, and Sword of Hearth and Home is where I would start for the small tweaks.

Leave a comment and I will try to get back to you as soon as I can, enjoy and have a wonderful day/night GLHF <3
