To play your deck at an official ("DCI-sanctioned") tournament you need a deck registration sheet. Here you can download such a sheet pre-filled with the cards in this deck!
Please note: This is not an official DCI service. So please always make extra sure that the sheet contains all the cards in your deck and fulfils all DCI requirements. If you notice anything wrong, please let us know. DCI is a trademark of of Wizards of the Coast LLC.
With faster decks like Grixis Death's Shadow, Izzet Phoenix, and Hardened Scales Affinity overtaking the meta, control decks need additional defenses and outs in order to survive.
Ancestral Vision is one of this deck's strongest cards, for the simple fact that it can set up during turn 1. Refilling our hand after a few counterspells have been played is a nice bonus, plus it usually nets us an important Cryptic Command or Path to Exile.
Speaking of, Cryptic Command is our other blue spell that will more often than not get you an extra turn to draw Terminus or some other form of removal. Counter-Draw or Tap-Draw are both strong options.
The deck runs a suite of cards that can be held in hand to be deployed at certain moments. Spell Snare is a great "Gotcha!" card on your opponent's turn 2, while cards like Oust or Detention Sphere act as great removal pieces for big creatures or non-creature permanents like Liliana of the Veil, respectively. Timely Reinforcements gets us our life back and makes some useful tokens in a pinch.
Jace, the Mind Sculptor is an incredible planeswalker that helps set up our deck's most powerful card, Terminus. With his 0 ability allowing us to set up our next draw, we can surprise our opponent with a well-timed Opt before their next attack step and clean up the field.
To back up Jace, the deck runs a single Gideon Jura and Teferi, Hero of Dominaria. Gideon baits all available creatures to him and can also destroy a tapped creature. His 0 ability also makes him a deadly clock, with a 6/6 body that's hard to get rid of. Teferi helps set up counterspells/removal with his +1, and his -3 can be used in conjunction with Jace's +2. While his -8 isn't easy to get to in Modern, it definitely represents a threat if it isn't removed.
=== Sideboarding ===
We have a nice toolbox of spells at our disposal to handle various decks. Out of all of them, though, my personal favorite is Spell Queller. Eating a 4-mana spell is super valuable and can buy us some time, especially if your opponent doesn't run that much removal.
Runed Halo naming the right card can shut down entire decks, or at the very least, remove a win condition. With the majority of decks using creatures to win, it's a strong form of protection.
Entreat the Angels is another Miracle card that can shore up defenses if Terminus can't do the job. It's also nice to get a bunch of 4/4s on your opponent's turn and set up a lethal strike on your next turn!
