Peketo's Seeing Red (Modern)

Inspired by the character from the horror-themed indie fighting game The Black Heart.

Little Ivan lived with his abusive father, who was more interested in the occult than properly raising a child. Every night Ivan watched in secret as his father performed dark arts, making deals with evil beings for power. He soon started copying these rituals without his father's knowledge.

One time Ivan performed a new ritual, and was struck by a vision of a world completely colored in a red hue. It was the most beautiful sight he had ever seen, he thought. The vision faded, and Ivan tried in vain to recreate it, but failed.

His father caught him in his study, and proceeded to assault him again. Ivan snapped and slew his own father, revelling at the sight of blood gushing with gusto from the fallen body. Craving to relive that moment, believing it would bring him back to that beautiful vision, Ivan kept killing.

He was eventually caught, and was killed by a victim's relative before put on trial. Unbeknownst to the avenger, Ivan's death completed one of the past rituals: he cannot really "die" now. Returning as a red dressed ghoul, the former Ivan slew his own murderer. Now named Peketo, he left a trail of blood as he painted that vision of red he saw before, leading him to the other world.
