The idea of this deck is fairly simple and relies heavily on ad nauseum.

Each game, you will use Varragoth to tutor for ad nauseam, which you will then cast after drawing. Because the cmc of the few non-land cards of the deck are all low, you will be able to draw your entire deck with ad nauseam. From there, the path to victory is simple. You will either play glacial chasm as your land for turn, play dark sphere for free, or do both. With your entire deck in your hand, and two ways to reduce the damage you will take from the final card in this combo, you will cast sickening dreams, which you will discard enough cards into to kill your opponents.

Now, as to the purpose of other cards in this deck, they serve to either pull possible counterspells out of your opponents hand, recur ad nauseam if it is countered, or add mana so that you can pull of the combo the turn you cast ad nauseam. The balancing-act is making sure you don't add too many cards of high cmc, as if someone destroys your glacial chasm, you will have to rely on dark sphere to reduce damage, which isn't an absolute reduction, meaning you may kill yourself as well with sickening dreams (resulting in a draw).
