Godhead of Awe Commander (EDH / Commander)

Godhead of Awe isn't actually legendary, but my playgroup (and I think most others) are cool with it. Thanks to commander's quarters for the idea.

Godhead's effect is symmetrical, but we can break this by going wide with initially small creatures that we can buff with anthem effects (glorious anthem, angel of jubilation/invention, thistledown liege, dictate of heliod, etc.) and +1/+1 counters (cathars' crusade, collective effort, mikaeus the lunarch). As long as Godhead is on the battlefield, and often when she isn't, our creatures completely will outclass our opponents'.

These stat modifying effects play really well with small token generators. For instance, casting secure the wastes for 5 or 6 with cathars' crusade on the battlefield will give us enough damage to potentially one-shot a player. Just as powerful are reverent hoplite, evangel of heliod, and master of waves, all of which take advantage of godhead's devotion-friendly mana cost to get us at least six tokens on entry, usually more. Anointed procession makes all of this even more powerful, of course.

It addition to giving our creatures an advantage relative to our opponents', Godhead's ability allows for some really satisfying removal that wouldn't normally be very useful. Simic manipulator, Beguiler of wills, and legacy's allure all allow us to steal our opponents best utility creatures, usually repeatedly. Also, before wizards had really gotten the whole 'color pie' thing figured out, they printed rootwater hunter and prodigal sorcerer, both of which become 'tap: destroy target creature' with godhead in play. Porphyry nodes lets us take out one creature a turn for only one mana. Still, none of these options are particularly fast or wide, so generous gift, swords to plowshares and a couple of wrath effects are included to give us more options when something really demands to be dealt with.

One of the problems of this kind of deck is a weakness to removal, both spot and boardwipes. Killing our commander repeatedly can shut us down really quickly, and it can be difficult to build back up if all of our best creatures get wrathed. We can use cards like unbreakable formation, selfless spirit, and teferi's protection to make our board more resilient, and various protection/hexproof effects can save godhead from targeted removal, which happens a lot since she interferes with most players just by being on the battlefield.

Once we have a deadly board presence, we have a few options for closing out the game. Elesh Norn, grand cenobite, archetype of imagination, engulf the shore (we only run 9 islands, so even in the late game it usually won't hit anything above three/four toughness), cyclonic rift, and sometimes brave the elements can all let us attack completely unblocked, taking out at least one opponent in the process.
