Looking for a cheap rainbow themed MTG deck to impress your friends at game night? Look no further. The fourth entry of Soupdog's fun casual "Budget Edition" decks has arrived.
As with all my decks, they are meant to not break the bank and be diverse. Nobody wants to face a deck of only five different creatures and the same boring removal - neither do you as the player.
With this deck, your goal is to get to round 5 and have at least one of each color out at that point. How do you do so? Terramorphic Expanse + Evolving Wilds will help fill out the gaps, as well as Harrow and Cultivate. Round 2-3 removal will help keep your opponent stale too.
Defense:
As mentioned: early removal. Kannushi will often be an untouchable wall too.
Card draw:
Pretty rough at this price point, but Coilfang Oracle and Etched Oracle will help you get there early game. The latter almost always servers as a 4/4, so use him to block an attack, then sacrifice to draw 3 cards. Yummy.
Round 4:
If you got some balanced mana you should be able to bring out some fun stuff here.
Round 5 / late game:
Once you hit round 5, you will start bringing the fatties. Most creatures here are really powerful. Any of the Bringers will make change up the game drastically if not dealt with. Fusion Elemental will force removal from your opponents early, if not they're dead. Bring out one with Knight of New Alara or Scion of Draco, and they will be crying. Give one some cheeky Psychotic Fury and it hits for 16 in round 6. They die? Use Horde of Notions to bring 'em back.
Not as strong as my Demon Harass deck, but incredibly fun to play. You don't just rely on the same combos to win here, it changes all the time. Probably need a board wipe and better ramp, but this is good without becoming annoying.
As always, better (and more expensive) alternatives can be found in the Maybeboard. Most of them are not in the decklist because they mean an instant win vs. most casual decks.
Comments/feedback is always welcome.
