To play your deck at an official ("DCI-sanctioned") tournament you need a deck registration sheet. Here you can download such a sheet pre-filled with the cards in this deck!
Please note: This is not an official DCI service. So please always make extra sure that the sheet contains all the cards in your deck and fulfils all DCI requirements. If you notice anything wrong, please let us know. DCI is a trademark of of Wizards of the Coast LLC.
Hello there,
This is one of the other decks where I went off the wall with the brewing. Garth is actually a very interesting commander that, due to the color identity and the abilities, does bring up versatility ...and nostalgic feelings (for all of those who are interested in the lore). He is basically like Kenrith, the Returned King in the design, but with extra-steps and wider abilites (its not only caring about creatures).
You will also notice that the mana base is a little bit inconsistent, but this is due to the disadvantage (some might call it that way) that I just put decks online that I actually own and play on paper.
To the strategy: so, apart from the obvious strategy with Garth One-Eye, another creature on the table, Dualcaster Mage, Ghostly Flicker and Fervor or Temur Ascendancy (take care with that one), where you flicker it, cast a Black Lotus and so on so forth, the idea of the deck is searching for other ideas that can benefit off of the other abilites on the commander. Disenchant and Terror are basically counter-measures against your opponents. Braingeyser is the card-advantage, and I already own one draw-cards deck.
The second theme outside of flickering is revolving around Sagas. What I found out is that Regrowth gives an ample margin with graveyard shenanigans, essentially giving you any permanent of your graveyard o your hand, having specially sagas in mind. There are no boardwipes except Phyrexian Scriptures and The Akroan War (sort of board-wipe). There is no clear goal with the sagas except disrupting the opponents and eventually wining through weird interactions.
Another thing I might add is the presence of all five Incarnations of Modern Horizons 2, going with the flavor of Garth dominating all colors of magic. Since we have a flicker theme, Solitude, Fury and Subtlety work as fantastic target removal, while Grief can hinder the play of the opponents. Endurance is there just to protect the sagas in your graveyard and ocationally disrupt graveyard decks.
Additionally, there are some cards like Sun Titan that add value for blink or Kenrith, the Returned King that serves as a recursion piece and haste enabler, as well as some untapping stuff for getting the maximum out of your commander.
Notice also that Deadeye Navigator is not included for the infinite combo. I wanted it to be a one-off combo that will appear in the game sometimes, not consistently.
