Dive into the depths of the ocean and explore the wonders of the merfolk kingdom with "Svyelun's Merfolk Dominion," a mono-blue Commander deck led by the enigmatic Svyelun of Sea and Sky. Assemble your aquatic army and harness the power of the tides to control the battlefield, draw cards with ease, and ultimately outmaneuver your opponents in the unpredictable waters of Commander.

Deck Plan:
Make wide board of unblockable merfolks and swing them at to your opponents.
WinCon boardstate: Most of lords on the battlefield and Deepchannel Mentor giving them unblockable. Lullmage Mentor and Intruder Alarm lockdown. Wanderwine Prophets extra turns.

For fast start you only need Sol Ring, Island and Sky Diamond in your starting hand. Cast them in turn 1 and then on turn 2 cast Svyelun of Sea and Sky. In casual edh games having 3/4 creature on turn 2 that draws cards, is like having 10/10 annahilator eldrazi in turn 6 or so. They are not the same, but the situation has same energy.

You don't realy need to do complicated infinite combos with Wonderwine Prophets. For example, sacrifice least important merfolk to take extra turns. You can also bounce some cheap merfolk wizard wiht Riptide Laboratory and make token merfolks for Wanderwine Prophets with Deeproot Waters or Emperor Mihail II.

Feel free to use this as template for your own merfolk tribal. There is many ways you can take this deck. Many merfolk are also wizards. Cards like Azami, Lady of Scrolls can bee a good draw engine.
Emperor Mihail II, Thassa, God of the Sea and Thassa, Deep-Dwelling can also be as commanders.

TIPS

  • Don't be afraid to attack. This deck is mainly aggro deck and most of merfolks can't be blocked. If you want to be polite, attack evenly on your opponents.
  • Thieving Skydiver; Thad Adel, Acquisitor and Empress Galina are there for reason so utilize them.
  • Whirlpool Rider is a very good "Windfall" effect. I use it mainly when I want refill my hand with new cards. (Why i'm not using actual Windfall spell? Answer: Whirpool Rider is merfolk. Casting merfolk in this deck does sometimes crazy stuff."
  • Read the game. Spot early threats and resolve them quickly. This means Board Wipes Spot Removal or stax cards that makes your life harder.
  • Don't overextend if you can't protect your merfolks.
  • Sometimes your opponents have better stuff than you have. Steal or copy them!

COMBOS AND SIMILAR STUFF

These are mainly backbones of combos. Since deck is running Intruder Alarm and few other "fun" stuff. Combos and card synergies will get out off hands.

"Casual" Infinite Turns Combo
Saprazzan Outrigger + Emperor Mihail II + Wanderwine Prophets + merfolk to sacriface.

Nearly Infinite Blue Mana
Nyx Lotus untapped, Merrow Reejerey on the batllefield, enough devotion to blue and enough merfolk spells to cast in your hand.

Counter All Spells
Lullmage Mentor, Intruder Alarm and 7 merfolks.

Riptide Suprise

For players who want true infinite combos:

Infinite Colorless Mana
Everflowing Chalice in hand. All other permanents on the battlefield.

Infinite Turns:

Wall of Plays
This is a section where I writedown actual game moments when this deck is performed realy well.

  • Survivor of four boardwipes and first time when I used Merfolk Reejerey and Nyx Lotus to make over 30 blue mana. Outcome: Game won.
  • Turn 4 Wonderwine Prophets following Deepchannel Mentor on next turn. I didn't have right cards to make it infinite, but I took enough extra turns that we agreed to end game there since opponents realy didn't have anyasnwers for my Prophets. Outcome: Game Won
