Thrun, the Last Troll is a commander really good to protect itself, so it's pretty easy ti immagine it in a voltron shell. What this list is trying to do is find a new way to buff it up, choosing a +1/+1 counter theme.

Beeing in green gives us a lot of good cards to place +1/+1 countrers, like Ivy Lane Denizen, to place more counters, like Hardened Scales or Pir, Imaginative Rascal, and to boost those counters, like Evolution Sage or Bloom Hulk.

Working in this theme, it's useful to include Verdurous Gearhulk to place +1/+1 counters on as much creature as possible and then use Rishkar, Peema Renegade to trasform every countercreature in a mana dorks, so we can have access to more mana to play more stuff and better protect Thrun.

Of course the ramp is on creatures as well and the same is true for removal and buff so we want to gain advantage from that with draw engine, like Beast Whisperer, and tutor, like Green Sun's Zenith or Finale of Devastation. About the removal, we can afford playing Bane of Progress to wipe a lot of stuff in play without affecting us too much and Ulvenwald Tracker or Ancient Animus to take advantage from a resiliant commander.

As all voltron deck, we need to make our commander damages pass through so we could use some protection from the swords as the good old Rogue's Passage.

With Thrun, the Last Troll this may not be the most innovative deck but there may be a good space to try something different and as long as you enjoy playing with it, it's all good!
