Tocatli, Honor Guard (for now at least) is a major player in the format. I set out to make a deck that plays around it witthout giving anything up in power level. In the end the boros deck already plays the majority of the major cards you want to play, so it is a lot like boros flyers with a green splash. Since I'm playing around Tocatli, I figure I should play the card myself. Only makes sense to punish my opponents with the thing I myself am playing around.

The other element of the deck is that it plays cards that are very difficult to remove and sensibly block.

a) Recursion/protected:
-Rekindling Phoenix
-Carnage Tyrant
-Adanto Vanguard

b) Hard to block
-flyers
-Benalia tokens (because it provides 2 and the pump)

c) Big butts
-Lava Coil has become the removal of choice for multiple decks; Aurelia, Lyra, and Carnage Tyrant are all too big in the trunk for Coil.

A comment I'm sure some people are already thinking over is why play green at all? The boros package is great. I've been playing it since the very beginning of the format. My boros was a little more red then the current deck, but it was near identical in the midgame. Reasons to add green:

1) I want to try something new and splashing green provides the opportunity for Carnage Tyrant. Tyrant is great against Izzet and Golgari, two of the main decks right now in the format.
2) I'm playing Vivien Reid. Boros lacks quality card draw. The curve is too high for Experimental Frenzy. I played Risk factor in my sideboard for a while as well and it very rarely came in. It is not always the card you want in the moment you need it most. The deck plays 11 bombs, alongside 11 other creatures. The -2 is also very important with all the Angels and Drakes in the format (not to mention other flyers you run into online that are powerful, but outside tier 1).
3) Shalai is just a little better when you have green available. The pump is often a throwaway ability, but it can really put a game over the top.
4) Knight of Autumn is really good in certain matchups. I like it against aggro and decks with enchantments. Also, if you play against Tocatli there is no need to leave it in yourself and a smart opponent would also sideboard it out game two since our deck is unaffected by it. This makes Knight of Autumn a relevant sideboard option in these cases.

As far as removal goes, I'm not playing a lot of it. What I am playing is very solid right now though. Exile removal is extremely important. Other than that, it is important to be able to deal with 5 toughness creatures.

I believe the green splash is worth a look. I like what green adds to the deck, on paper at least. Another card worth looking at is Flower // Flourish. I don't like that it cannot grab a red source (Phoenix is important turn 4), but as a utility card it may be worth striking down a few other cards to make room for it. I just like that it is one of those cards that mess with an opponents head in a game. If you play a Flower early on the opponent must take great caution to play around Flourish for the rest of the game. It's just one more thing to worry about. It is also a strong finisher and is not a card an opponent would see coming if not played early on (much in the same vein as playing Resurgence).
