To play your deck at an official ("DCI-sanctioned") tournament you need a deck registration sheet. Here you can download such a sheet pre-filled with the cards in this deck!
Please note: This is not an official DCI service. So please always make extra sure that the sheet contains all the cards in your deck and fulfils all DCI requirements. If you notice anything wrong, please let us know. DCI is a trademark of of Wizards of the Coast LLC.
We are playing an Abzan Enter the Battlefield good stuff creature deck. The goal is to stall the game long enough to overwhelm the opponent with powerful creatures with great effects. The deck has all kinds of cool combo's/interactions (but fair fun ones, not like modern gross game ending turn 3 combos). The best part is there will always be new cards in every set to make some slot a little better. Below is a full description of the deck:
How do we cheat out the creatures?
1) Eldritch Evolution- The deck has multiple two and three drops that allow us to play Eldritch Evolution which gets us into our 4 and 5 drops that are excellent bodies and value.
2) See the Unwritten- Once we get to the mid game all the 4 and 5 drops have four power to fuel See the Unwritten's Ferocious clause. In this deck if we drop two creatures straight to the board we are getting major value.
3) Ramping- 8 mana dorks should mean we are midrange in a hurry. So by turn 3 we should be dropping a bomb most games and by turn 4 there should be a big Evolution, See the Unwritten, or a hard cast series of bombs.
What are we playing early game?
1) Mana dorks- obvious reasons.
2) Filigree Familiar and Nissa- clear card advantage and easy to cast. Great targets for Evolution or even to chump block, buying us time to get into the midgame.
3) Anafenza- drop this body on turn 2 and you have some solid offense or defense. Also the second ability is so relevant right now in the format.
What are we trying to get to on turns 3 and 4?
1) Siege Rhino! (against every deck) When this drops on turn 3 you are enjoying life. It's also amazing to Evolution into this, rip it off a See the Unwritten, or best of all, play this and then Unwritten.
2) Gisela- underplayed and very strong card. Strong on her own, but even stronger when the combo is in the deck.
3) Avacyn- great off an Unwritten if you have a couple creatures on board before attacks. Even if she flips, she misses the majority of your key threats. Also, with Eldritch Evolution you can force her to flip by sacrificing a dork. So many uses.
4) Sidisi- A grab anything card in this deck is a great one of and a 4/6 Deathtoucher is nothing to laugh at. The combo's you can pull off with Avacyn are pretty fun as well... Avacyn on board, then Sidisi hits exploiting dork causing Avacyn to flip.
5) Thalia's Lancers- Searching for legendary cards in this deck is pretty awesome. Noxious and Siege Rhino are not legendary, but anything else worth getting is. And remember Urborg is a legendary land.
What are the bombs?
1) Noxious Gearhulk- we are low on removal here. We throw a lot of bodies out there but it is nice to have at least one that can blow one away.
2) Bruna- I'm forcing the meld here because it is easy to get. She is worth a one of on her own even. I wish there were more Angels or Humans in the deck to target though, but there are 10 targets available. The fact that it is a cast trigger is holding the card back some for me. If anything gets cut, I'd say this is the first to go since the trigger does not work with Evolution. Can you imagine Evolution on Avacyn or Lancers into this, then get the sac creature back to hand. Gross, but oh well.
Rest of the mainboard:
Just looking for utility cards that do more than one thing. Removal is the focus here.
Sideboard:
1) Removal on a stick- Demon of Dark Schemes, Gearhulk's, Naturalist's/Reclamation Sage, Fleshbag Marauder.
2) Linvala- awesome to turn a game around against creature decks.
3) Declaration in Stone- not instant speed, but catches multiple targets and exiles.
4) Duress- if we don't have Thoughtseize then here is the best alternative for now.
5) Tormod's Crypt- hate out all recursion whenever we want.
6) Yahenni's Expertise- great against the fast decks, while not touching our important stuff. Also great to combo with... play this into an Evolution, sacrifice your dork before it dies anyway then your midrange dude (Anafenza-Rhino-Avacyn-Sidisi-Lancers) enters the battlefield with the -3/-3 not being enough to kill it and you still get the ETB trigger. Depending on how the format shapes up some of these may go in the mainboard.
