The deck actually has several layers. There is a straight forward reanimator strategy at the core of the deck, but there is a lot more going on.

Components of the deck:
1) Reanimator strategy- the deck plays five reanimators, with a ton of varying targets.

2) Zombie tokens- as the game moves along you will slowly accumulate a small army of zombie tokens without making an especially big effort to do so.

3) Great mana fixing. While the mana base itself is not ideal, the ability to fix your land as you go certainly is. There are a ton of cards that let us dig and filter our lands to make sure we curve out, without having to commit a high number of slots to mana in the deck.

4) Solid midrange deck- we play a lot of threats, have a ton of removal/disruption, draw a lot of cards, and have plenty of ways to regroup as the game goes on.

Let's talk individual cards:

The decks Engine
Scarab God- The all-star, doing all the wonderful things he does. Reanimates your creatures and your opponents creatures (at instant speed), hard to remove, great blocker, and solid attacker.
Liliana, Death's Majesty- a pure powerhouse. Great as a reanimator, either right away or over time. Can reanimate The Scarab God, making for a very nasty board. The overlooked factor of her is dropping her and just making zombies, filling the grave for multiple turns, and ticking up towards her ultimate (not a game over ultimate but so one-sided for our strategy here).
*Sidisi, Brood Tyrant- such amazing synergy with the other two core cards. It fills the grave and generates zombies, and usually will do so multiple times. With LDM out at the same as Sidisi the zombie tokens just grow and grow. Sidisi is both a great engine to fuel the yard for the Scarab, as well as being a great reanimation target.

Pure reanimation targets (not so expensive that they can't be hard cast)
Dragonlord Silumgar- stealing their biggest threat is never a bad thing.
Greenwarden of Murasa- getting a key card back is big, especially when it happens multiple times.
Hornet Queen- if you need to stall to catch up or need to buy time to set up this is your target. So hard for an opponent to recover from a Hornet Queen. Really nasty if she happens to be a 4/4.
Noxious Gearhulk- removal and lifegain on a beater. Can really turn a game around.

Gravefillers (support for the core cards)
Satyr Wayfinder- grabs a land, fills the grave, triggers Sidisi, and chump blocks to buy time. So much from a 1/1.
Grapple with the Past- fuels the deck, much in the same way as Wayfinder, however can also grab a creature.
*Liliana, the last Hope- grave filler, creature return, and small removal.

Support Creatures
Champion of Wits- makes sure you curve out well and can reanimate itself. Does not trigger Sidisi, but still worth a place in the deck.
Hostage Taker- tempo removal to buy time, great reanimation target. It also serves the purpose of putting a clock on the opponent to have to remove it or you get a free treat (that is one less piece of removal for your real threats)
*Rogue Refiner- draw a card, get some energy for Aether Hub, chump block, great reanimation target.

Utility Cards
Fatal Push- need some cheap removal. Playing it is hard on the mana base, but worth it.
Walk the Plank- need an unrestricted removal card for cheap.
Vraska's Contempt- removal for the harder stuff to clear out the way.
Murderous Cut- always going to be cheap removal with the number of cards in our graveyard.
*Despise- good first turn play to deal with a threat we will have trouble with or to take a card out of there hand they would play early.

Lands

  • Fetches- sometimes not the best choice as the land will enter tapped if off color, however we need them for Fatal Push.
Ather Hub- helps get us out of the gate well and gets reloaded with Rogue Refiner.
Ipnu Rivet- worth a one of for late game grave fill in grindy matches.
Geier Reach Sanitarium- the card advantage is better for us with all the graveyard manipulation.
Lumbering Falls- good to have a couple manlands.
Urborg- should be in every multicolor deck that includes black.
The rest just fill out the mana base as best as possible.

Sideboard:
Mostly fairly obvious. There are some cards to protect our creatures, some to wipe their creatures, and situational bombs to reanimate.
