To play your deck at an official ("DCI-sanctioned") tournament you need a deck registration sheet. Here you can download such a sheet pre-filled with the cards in this deck!
Please note: This is not an official DCI service. So please always make extra sure that the sheet contains all the cards in your deck and fulfils all DCI requirements. If you notice anything wrong, please let us know. DCI is a trademark of of Wizards of the Coast LLC.
well here is my first version of a control deck which i got the 2nd place at Game Day among 10 players + or -. i've been testing it little time btw. sorry if my poor english haha hope you like it:) the main idea is to control the first turns as well as possible and get to the 4-5 turn. then drop big threats combined with removal to crash your opponent haha. i would like to talk about the curve in this deck and comment the little hidden tricks to get profit of it and rent your cards for200%.
in this deck i play 25 lands and rarely you can get flooded because i have dicarding, cycling motors.
im gonna talk about the most significant cards from 1 mana to +6:
-------1 drops-------
first we have magma spray (instant speed) for those scrappys or whatever creature x/2. Lightning axe is a very imoprtant card here. it enables madness (at instaspeed for 1 mana :o)and you can gain a lot of tempo with it. it works with avacyn's judgement and fiery temper very well. sometimes at the end of opp turn you can axe-avacyn's and kill a good number of creatures with that couple. even you can hit some life points to your opp.
-------2 drops-------
immolating glare, simple and good. i love killing verdurous gearhulks or whatever monster with only 2 manas.
-------3 drops-------
sweltering suns: sometimes i let small creatures to hit me waiting for my opp to cast more creatures. card advantage is very important and if you can sweltering 2 creatures instead of 1 its way much better, virtually u r getting more cards.
gideon gideon gideon... what to say... a nice control planeswalker, for 3 we have 4/4 indestructible which does bla bla bla. very good. i would like to get more but $$$. its the same problem with chandra, torch of defiance, money. By the way, gideon gives us time to get the sweet cards for sweeping the battle and restart. its comfortable to play with:)
-------4 drops-------
ok, if we get to this point alive, we can start to lean the game to our side. i love to cast for 4 manas collective defiance or blessed alliance. i mean, you get 2 effects in 1 card. i just like it. collective ables to refresh the hand, activating madness, killing x/4 creatures or throwing 3 to the face. i also play blessed alliance for 4 lives and sac one creature. its pretty good.
those cards are ones of my favourites because they just fit in your hand so well. you can play it for 2,3,4 or whatever and multieffects in 1 card gives virtual card advantadge:)
For 4 we also have out cast. planeswalkers? marvels? permanents btw?? its really good. and if you got it in your hand and the board is empty because you played your early drops well, you can cycle it :,)
for 4 we can also activate our manlands, needle spires. 4 dmg is actually good and often you can use them for attacking or defense. also care for opp's removal, they are sweet objectives for them because we are control mages and we dont play much creatures.
-------5 drops-------
fumigate: sweep and gain life, nice
glorybringer: a good 4/4 Flying Haste creature. besides, we can exert to kill some creatures and later untap it with blessed (rarely happens)
now we have one of my favourites cards: goblin dark dwellers (GDD). this guy is a ""mini"" torrential with a good body and we can cast an instant or sorcery leq than 3. i LOVE triggering collective and add modes. its just crazy, doing for 6 mana a lot of valuable things. GDD also catches fiery temper, cathartic reunion or SWELTERING SUNS, cleaning the board and our goblin still standing. discarding cards with madness or not gives to our goblin good choices for the future.
-------+6 drops-------
Our wincon is little "burn" and attacking with big bodies. chandra flamecaller can save us cleaning for 3 and then attacking for 6 every turn. pretty nice. also we can activate madness, very important:) shivan dragon is a rare choice right? paying 6 for no impact-board... it sounds bad, but if we can get it for the next turn we can finish the game attaking for 10-11 dmg easily. i did it twice and believe me its super effective. we can just attack for 5 and stay open to kill more possible blocks or threats, maybe better. i have to test it more.
-------Notes-------
i would like to notice that our creatures has or flying or menace so we can attack freely. most of the time our opp will have 0-1-2 creatures on board. its also affordable playing avacyn's judgement at late game paying x=5/6 and doing a lot of dmg. our top deck i think its nice. we cant topdecking badly, because we can custom cards for late game like avacyn's judg or collective or blessed.this ones are not 2/3 drops, believe me.
i must test more and more and more. i consider myself as an average control player, i've been playing magic 1year sporadically and with friends. i also played more decks of course and i m focused in standard. the first "tournament" important was gameday and i got second, so im very proud of. i lost against marvel:(
i have to try declaration in stone (sweet for GDD) and my hyped/hidden fateful showdown, which i personally think that can perform really well in this deck. maybe this deck can evolution to mardu control, or pure red burn, idk.
-------Sideboard-------
Ok here i have some issues and problems.
glorious end is an option, maybe to counter marvel or ulamog. then emblem gideon to get rid off the endturn trigger.
we have fragmentize, which i like it a lot too. i dont know maybe some glorybringer, 4x neonate or try glory-bound, the guy 4/4 lifelink who exerts. i have to work on the sideboard and think about it deeply and calmly.
i didnt played against a control deck but i guess its just an awful match. the sideboard has to solve it and being useful here.
