When I first saw Naru Meha, Master Wizard I immediatly thought "well, a dualcaster Mage in the command zone... how can this possibly go wrong?!?" At this point I got kinda tired of mizzix high tide shennanigans and brewed up Jhoira to try something different. The deck kinda worked although it also got boring after some testing. Then it happened at a draft in my local game store: Someone passed me a foil copy of Naru Meha and I was like "Okay, well then... I guess I have to build this now". So here I am with my Combo Flicker Build of Naru Meha. Credits for most of this build and parts of this short primer go towards to https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/naru-meha-cedh-combo/. I took this list and will teak it to fit my playgroup meta.
The deck revolves around a classic wincon in cEDH:
Let's tackle these 3 steps one by one.
Get infinite Mana: This is fairly easy and can be done in two ways. Either get to Ghostly Flicker or assemble the combo of Isochron Scepter + Dramatic Reversal. Since the Draamatic Scepter is kinda obvious I'm only going to explain the Ghostly Flicker Route:
a) cast Ghostly Flicker targeting whatever (e.g. 2 lands)
b) hold Priority, cast Naru Meha targeting Ghostly Flicker
c) Copy the Ghostly FLicker, targeting Naru Meha and a land
d) let the copy resolve. Naru Meha and the land enter untapped
e) Naru Meha triggers, targeting the original Ghostly Flicker that's still on the stack
f) repeat steps c)-e) to net infinite Mana
... : This is where things get interesting. If you already have one of the "wins" in hand you can skip this step, otherwise you have to draw your deck in one or the other way. A few easy ways include spectral Sailor, Whispers of the Muse, Arcums Astrolabe and so on. However, there also other ways: Senseis Divining Top can draw the deck with Ghostly Flicker, Witching Well can scry through the entire Deck which basically means you can stack your deck in the exact order you want to. An intersting interaction comes up with riptide laboratory and a cantrip (e.g. brainstorm):
You need to have Naru in play, infinite Mana and the original Flicker still on the stack. From that point you do:
a) cast Brainstorm, hold Priority
b) Bounce Naru with Riptide
c) Cast Naru, target the Flicker on the stack
d) Blink Naru and the Riptide (untapping it)
e) Trigger Naru, target Brainstorm
f) let the Brainstorm Copy resolve
g) repeat steps b)-f) to draw your deck
Profit: This again is fairly straightforward. Again, if you manage to complete step 1 and happen to have one of the mentioned cards here you can skip Step 2. So, the wincons are
a) Walking Ballista
b) Blue Suns Zenith (instant Speed wincon)
c) Sun-Scorched Desert (instant Speed wincon if it is already on the table)
