TOURNAMENT REPORT

GAME 1: ABZAN TORTURED EXISTENCE (2-0)

This was against a good friend of mine, who I helped get into pauper by giving my tortured existence shell to, so I had a pretty good idea what to expect, as did he. He did not expect to win, and he did not. Game 1 started with me dropping a t3 hooting mandrills, him casting dead weight on it, me following up with moldervine cloak, and then beating him 5 to the face until he lost. He never saw tortured existence, and had to hard cast some brownscales to soak damage.

+1 Faerie Macabre +1 Lightning Axe || -1 island -1 electrickery

bringing in lightning axe was unnecessary. Game was pretty uneventful, with me ending the game with faerie macabre in hand, and him never seeing tortured existence again, despite digging through like half his deck.

GAME 2: ELVES (2-0)

I had electrickery in my opening hand and great follow ups.

+2 blazing volley +1 Jilt +1 Lightning Axe || -2 borderland explorer -2 insolent neonate

This second game was a bit more interesting. Opponent had the same opening turns of quirion ranger into priest of titania. In game 1, I overloaded electrickery to take a 2 for 1 on turn 2. This game I decided to wait to see wait. I also didn't want him to know that I had electrickery in hand, so I cast faithless looting leaving only 1 red mana up. My hand was full of removal, but I think I mind gamed well enough for him to have a poor read. he comboed off, bouncing both of his lands back to his hand to untap his priest of titania twice and committed just about everything to the board, but wasn't able to find a spidersilk armor. I untapped, overloaded electrickery, then cast jilt to bounce his huntmaster back to his hand, leaving him with a 100% empty board. It felt real good people. I followed that up with a 10/10 trampler and took the game.

GAME 3: MONO GREEN INFECT (2-1)

This was super stressful and I lost. I kept a hand with just one lightning bolt and no other removal, and just had too much green. It should have been a mulligan but I didn't respect mono green infects tenacity.

+1 Lightning Axe +1 Jilt +2 Blazing Volley || -2 Borderland Explorer -2 Insolent Neonate

Games 2 and 3 were nailbiters. I was able to find solid removal and play a much more controlling game. It was tough sequencing burn spells to force action from my opponent. at one point I cast firebolt into seal of strength, so I could later discard a fiery temper off of my looter. Speaking of Looter Il-Kor, it was a total bomb both of these games, as it allowed me to apply unblockable pressure that also helped me find dig for more removal.

I ended game 3 with only 3 poison counters, but the whole time I felt like I was one creature attack away from D-E-D ded. My hands were shaking after I won. I'm not going to lie it felt real good.

Hope you enjoyed the write up!
