I stopped working at a MTG-LGS. I was really invested in working there so after quiting I found myself with alot of free time and also it sparked my interesst in playing commander again what was not possible for me before since I was working alot. The first thing I did was revisit basically the last year of MTG-Releases and scavanged everything for possible EDH playable cards. Getting a grip on all that I came back here and started upgrading all my decks with the fancy new cards that have been put out there by wizards lately. After that is done as off today I want to invest some more time into also upgrading all the descriptions for my decks to see how my perspective changed aswell over the past years when I orinially did this. So let's dig in:
Man this Deck is somewhat a gateway to my development as a MTG player. It's not uncommon for my decks to go through bigger changes so that the general mentality of it shifts but with Kruphix, God of Horizons it's a whole other story. I began building this commander after seeing it in my playgroup and I took the chance to recycle all of the powerhouse cards in green and blue that I had lying around in my collection. At that time my most commonly visited playgroup was in the process of having a major shift in powerlevel due to a legacy player introducing himself into the group and raising the budgets and necessary overall strenght to compete with one another. This deck was not cutting it but It was my favourite at the time since I really like the control playstyle so It had to change. It went from casual big funny stuff I had leftover to extra turn gallore to stand a chance against this new opponent. Unfortunatelly that shit was hella boring playing extra turn after extra turn to reach a point where I would play with myself for over 15 minutes at a time I thought to myself I could also just stay home and play with my wiener and have the same result. Nobody was enjoying that me included so the Deck had to change completely once again.
I wanted to fully embrace the control aspect and mentality of dropping a land and passing the turn with this deck. Problem with that was I didn't use the commander anymore because playing everything at instant speed and saving the remaining mana on Kruphix, God of Horizon wasn't necessary you just spend it immediately instead of saving.
I'm happy with the current version you still have a good ammount of control over the opponents and after removing some of the flash cards I see myself relying more on the mana saving ability of my God.
The general Idea of the Deck is to deny game wining plays and build a massive card advantage by casting draw x spells with the saved mana from Kruphix. You can always hold Mana open for a counter and it didn't go to waste if the counter was not needed. In the later stages of the game you just drop down big fat creatures and protect them with your interaction to finish your opponents of. Cards like Tidespout Tyrant are just killing it in this deck it's ridicolus.
Problems that I have with this deck are being focused due to the natural hate you recieve for denying your opponents their cool stuff, getting low on life really fast due to a lack of defensive options, not being able to finish out a game when I'm in a commanding position, getting Kruphix removed on a crucial moment.
The mindset in this deck forces you to make very complicated decisions at every stage of the game since you literally have the option to deny every single spell your opponents cast but your resources are limited and you need to pick the right things to interact with.
If you are curious about certain card choices or have any other questions feel free to ask and also give your oppinion I'm open for all kinds of feedback.
I hope you liked this small view into my thoughtprocess and as always don't forget to have fun!
Hi. It's me. An unknown person nobody gives two shits about on the internet thinking he's big stuff because he builds edh decks and tries to make funny description for them failing critically.
So on to the slightly less uninteressting part. My deck!
This is more or less my favorite deck. It has my favourite color combination and plays my favurite creature type, Eldrazi.
Originally this deck started because somebody new came to my usual playgroup and used Kruphix in his command zone. I was mesmerized by the playstyle and realized I had almost the whole deck lying around at home.
So a couple games later I really like the deck and started to work on it alot. It transformed from a recycling deck where I use my leftover cards to a deck with a dedicated playstyle and strategy.
What does it do? So first of all Kruphix is a cool engine he enables massive hands without having to discard and the most important thing you keep all your unused mana in your pool.
You'll like this build if:
Control is your stlyle
You like countering stuff
You can handle big mana
Big creature's are your thing
Having a general and less dedicated gameplan
You'll dislike this build if:
You wanna win quick
You wanna go for big boards
You don't like interacting with the board
The general gameplan is refered to as the "Landrop go" strat, you want to spent as less mana as possible on your turn hold it open for counterspells and save the rest over Kruphix ability.
To pump this up a bit I put in almost all of the Flash enabling cards so that you really drop a land and pass.
Looking deeper into the Strategy this is a control deck by heart. You really wanna keep everbody in check while slowly gaining advantage. This is very difficult even more so in this format.
Most of the games will look like the Kruphix deck chilling it out countering high threat stuff while squezing in big stuff himself.
Your main enginge besides the general plan is seasons past, the card is very important since you can keep card advantage with it since it shuffles itself back into the deck. Combine it with mystical tutor and you're set.
In all honesty that's it. I tried out some cheesy strategys with this deck but it never worked out sadly so in the end i just went for a easy and compat deck that'll work best for me.
My most recent changes went to go for more early ramp to get my 5cmc commander on the board more consistant. Its very importatn to keep in mind that you are actually quite reliant on your commander and he's rather expensive.
Another very interessting card is Seedborn Muse. She's a hard worker in this deck with Doubling cube she can give you literally thousands of mana on your turn very fast. Thats why there is a creature tutor in the deck
So thats it thanks for reading and enjoy this Deck. Don't forget to have fun playing Mtg with your friends :D
