Combo/Value Slimefoot Deck. Stay alive long enough to get the value engine on-line. Then... 1) combo off 2) mass board swarm, or 3) infect for the win.
"Slimefoot is the leader of a George Clinton cover band."
Ede's Deck-building Philosophy: Build your deck to be both interactive, resilient, and competitive. Don't sacrifice one for the others. You only get to spend so much time at the table, build your deck so that you are able to PLAY MAGIC at all times. This means being able to bounce back from board wipes, prevent mana screw, plow through mana floods, and not stall out on card draw. Commander games can take a long time, build your deck to guarantee you always have something to do at the table; build to be "in the thick of it."
Specific Notes on Building Slimefoot:
1) There are several distinctions card list concerning late game card draw and ramp. I found that the deck needs to lay a foundation before exploding. The cards indicating late game are intended to be played after the foundation is set. Without the standard early game card draw/ramp package the deck can't lay the foundation; without the late game card draw/ramp, the deck can't win.
2) Removal package is focused on enchantment and artifact removal. Grave Pact/Dictate are extremely effective at keeping boards clear of creatures in my meta.
3) Add a Primal Vigor. Mine is in Italian and I don't play it. Read Ebay titles closely.
Key:
Sub = Actual Card not owned. Using named card as a substitute.
SC = Shared Card. This card is shared among other EDH Decks and not kept in the box.
Sideboard contains cards that are relevant to the deck in some way, but are currently being played. These may be cards in consideration for inclusion. They may be there in the event the meta game shifts and specific effects are needed. They may just be fun cards I want to play in the deck someday.
Specific Notes on Playing Slimefoot
1) Don't chump with Saprolings unless you need to protect your life total. Early game they are more valuable as a method to build your board state. During the first 5 turns think of them as mana rocks, not chump blockers.
2) Don't drop your Edict Effects until you can use them. That means you need creatures to sacrifice AND a free method to sacrifice them. Don't expect your edict effect to last a complete turn around the table.
Game Log (4-2)
10/26/18 (1-0): Won a 4 person free for all. Sweet off turn set up for a combo infect kill. Sacrificed X to itself along with a Saproloing to bring back Mycoloth. Sacrificed 4 Saprolings as Mycoloth came into play to put 8 +1 counters on Mycoloth. During main phase I cast Phyresis on Slimefoot and Ashnod's Alter. Was able to chain together 10 sacrifices. Had to be forced in a pinch. Justin was likely one turn from swinging for the table. He did 30 damage to me before passing the turn to me. Ascetism was a key defensive card in this game. After bringing Mycoloth back on my opponent's end step, there was an attempt at removal. He thought I was going for a Craterhoof kill as Craterhoof had been a revealed draw card.
10/20/18 (0-2)
Game 1: Lost a 6 person rotator. No lessons learned. A bit of a slow ramp. Chris was on Darevi and landed Aura shards. This prevented the pinch by handicapping both my deck and Justin's (Joira). After killing Chris as a punishment, Micah was able build enough of a board state to race the remaining team down. Beat me by a turn. Would have been able to get him up to 8 infect, but not 10.
Game 2: Lost 4 person free-for-all to Justin on Joira. Poor curve and hit with several pieces of removal. Was never able to get the value engine on line. Joira's value engine did, and we after Justin started taking 25 minute turns we quit.
10/06/18 - (2-0)
Game 1: Won by Ashnod's Alter/Slimefoot/Parallel Lives Combo. Early, 1 hour game. Heroic Intervention saved my combo pieces on the turn I moved in on the win. Incredible save. Considering adding it permanently. Will continue to watch how it plays.
Game 2: Won by Saproling Swarm created by excess mana coming from Black Market. Board controlled by Grave Pact. Late 2+ hour game. Beat Trev's Dragons, Micah's ?, and Chris's Omnath. Playgroup already crediting wins solely to Grave Pact/Dictate of Erobos. Told them to get more removal. Not one enchantment was removed from the board the entire game. Land removal package held no value. Considering removing it.
10/03/18 - (1-0)
Game 1: Won by Ashnod's Alter/Slimefoot/Parallel Lives Combo. Early, 1 hour game.
Change Log
10/28/2018: 1) Finally pulled a Overgrown Tomb during a GRN draft. Removed it's substitute. 2) Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest arrived. Removed its substitute. 3) Removed Sporecrown Thallid for Herioc Intervention. It did work while a sub for Maz.
10/08/2018: Removed In Box naming conventions. Removed the Exquisite Blood/Sanguine Bond combo from the deck. Seem too cliche. Didn't ever use it, but I assume it would draw more hate from the playgroup than the three card Slimefoot combo already does.
