Have you ever board wiped, only to be sad about losing your own great board? Do you find yourself holding onto board wipes for too long, hoping to keep those great creatures you worked so hard to play? Well, fear not for you can choose Voltorb; Self destruct!

Voltorb: Self Destruct is a deck designed around Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero, the recent new commander available from the 2019 set. When he dies, all creatures and artifacts that were sent to the graveyard from the battlefield this turn are returned back to the battlefield. Suddenly, wiping the board doesn't seem so bad. Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero has to be exiled but we're not worried, there are ways around that. The deck is riddled with ETBs, sacrifice, recursion, indestructibility, and shenanigans.

Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero cheats: spells like sigil of the new dawn, gift of immortality, nim deathmantle, and loyal retainers all let you safely return Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero back to the battlefield before he is exiled (https://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=470587). Even if he is exiled, there's plenty of ways to pay for the commander tax, like ashnod's altar.

We've got tons of ETB effects. Draw, recursion, destruction, etc to abuse with Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero's ability and constant board wipes. And there's plenty of sacrifice effects too that can be abused before killing (probably sacrificing) Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero yourself.

Some neat plays: Wipe the board with an OP spell like obliterate, effectively resetting the board for everyone but you (because Gerrard). For next level plays, use a spell like boros charm, or faith's reward to save your entire board. Cheat out creatures with Ilharg, then kill those creatures only to get them back permanently with Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero. Use kiki-jiki for an infinite combo or just fun ETB effects. Sacrifice your creature to Ashnod's or phyrexian altar to play big spells like Avacyn or Darksteel forge and then get all all of those creatures back.

If Ash can win a Pokemon league, Voltorb can win a game of EDH.
