I have this deck built on Arena. My current win ratio is about 66%, on BO1, but I am tuning it, plus I just gave it a sideboard. This deck works well, and is quite consistent, unless it has a bad start, hard to recover.
I have beaten Boros Aggro, Drakes multiple times, Merfolk, Terferi and White Aggro, and I have had a few rage quits and got roped once or twice.
Premise of the deck.
18 Enters the Battlefield creatures, all with good effects.
- 3 Burglar Rat to force Discard
- 3 Dusk Legion Zealot to draw a card
- 3 Gallant Cavalry to get 2 vigilant bodies
- 3 Gravedigger to retrieve a creature from the graveyard
- 3 Ravenous Chupacabra to destroy opponents creature
- 3 Seekers' Squire to explore, netting you a land or a choice on your next draw
There are 3 Orzhov Enforcer with deathtouch to make them think twice about attacking. That plus the token flyer are really handy in this deck.
Ajani's Welcome nets lots of life as things keep coming in to play.Lumbering Battlement is the key card here.
When it comes into play you want to pick up as many of the 18 previously mentioned creatures as you can. Not usually the Orzhov Enforcer too often.
Any attempt to bounce, exile, or destroy the Lumbering Battlement results in all those creatures coming back into play, and triggering all of their effects. If Ajani is there to welcome them over and over... all the better. The other 7 cards are the key combat tricks and/or removal that really makes this all work.
- 4 Justiciar's Portal
- 3 Severed Strands
In both of these cases, you remove the Lumbering Battlement yourself, causing all of the exiled creatures to return to the battlefield, and re-trigger all of their abilities.
and Ajani welcomes them all some more.....Ravenous Chupacabra eats another opposing creature, Seekers Squire explores, Gravedigger goes digging.... and if you used Severed Strands on your Lumbering Battlement, the Gravedigger just gets your Lumbering Battlement back into your hand!!!
If you just bounced with Justiciar's Portal, you just pick all the riders right back up..... after they have all triggered, and maybe even a few new bodies from other turns. As Justiciar's Portal is an instant, doing that in response to Luminous Bonds or some other arresting type feature feels really good.
Do not be afraid to use these 7 cards on creatures other than Lumbering Battlement. It is these 7 cards that takes advantage of the EtB abilities, and achieves the flexibility to win even without the big monster in the room.Anyway, try it out and let me know how it works for you, and do please say how much fun it was to play......
