a two part question
« on: January 10, 2014, 01:51:36 am »
The first part is this, if I use Malek, Izzet Paragon to cast Epic Experiment from my library and pay 8 for its X cost would the copy also have 8 as its X? The second part is this, when I do this any cards with X as the cost would have a cost of zero for X if I were to choose to cast them (with the Epic Experiment)  correct?

bonus questions :D
if I Clone a Primordial Hydra would my clone then be a 0/0?
and last if I were to Clone a Kalonian Hydra would I get the "when Kalonian Hydra enters the battlefield..." ability?

I'm fairly certain that the answer to all these questions is yes based on the card text I just would like some reassurance.

First- the X cost would also be copied. http://magiccards.info/query?q=izzet+paragon&v=card&s=cname

Second- Yes, the Clone would be a 0/0 as Clone doesn't copy any counters on the creature, just the base state of the creature. http://magiccards.info/m14/en/47.html

Third- Clone does copy enter the battlefield abilities...however Kalonian Hydra does not have a enter the battlefield ability. I assume you actually mean his triggered ability of doubling counters when he swings which would be copied onto Clone as well. http://magiccards.info/query?q=kalonian+hydra&v=card&s=cname

His text says he enters the battlefield with four counters. Would that work?

Yea, Clone copies the exact wording of the original card so Clone would enter with 4 +1/+1 counters on it if it's copying a Kalonian Hydra.

You're also correct that casting a spell without paying it's mana cost (as with Epic Experiment) any X in the casting cost is always 0.
