[Modern] Mono Red Aggro Dragons

Mono Red Aggro Dragons

This deck aims to get dragons out FAST and break the game with synergy.

Dragonlord Servants and Generator servants provide ramp.

Avaricious Dragon and Sin Prodder provide very hefty benefits. The worse thing that can happen in this deck is dead-drawing a land and not being able to cast anything. Once you have four of five lands out, any land is essentially a dead draw. Sin Prodder will ONLY be non-beneficial to play when you have less than four lands out; after that, if your opponent makes you discard a land to reach a creature, you're in excellent shape! Most of the time your opponent is going to have to choose between, say, taking 4 or 5 damage UP FRONT to make you discard a dragon, or giving you the dragon. And you're going to get your draw step afterwords anyway! Being a 3/2 menace is handy as well.

Avaricious Dragon is in there kind of for the same reason. It's a 4drop dragon, which is excellent. It lets you draw multiple cards a turn, lessening the chance of dead drawing a land, and letting you pick and choose the best ones to cast each turn.

Flamewake Phoenix is an excellent card. There is NO downside to putting it in the graveyard- in fact, it's cheaper to play from the graveyard than from your hand!

Scourge of Valkas and Dragon Tempest.. damn, these get vicious QUICK. The more dragons, the more damage going wherever you want it to. And keep in mind, if there are multiple scourge of valkas/dragon tempest on the field, you get multiple triggers. I've won games versus ensnaring bridge players with these triggers ALONE. Trust me, it ramps FAST.

I recently acquired a playset of simian spirit guide for another deck, and they making an excellent addition to this deck, in place of vessel of volatility. However, at heart this is my first BUDGET homebrew, so I put the spirit guides in the maybeboard.

What can I say except, I really like this deck.  Dragon's are some of my absolute favorite creatures and this happens to be a nice dragon deck.  Since the printing of thunderbreak regent it has become one of my absolute favorite dragons and I like seeing it in this deck.  I also like the synergy you're running with the damage being given based on the dragons on your battlefield.  Well done!

Mutavault can help you to increase dragon count when you need.

Like the deck as well, possible stormbreath? In modern he is good in certain matchups due to path being so popular, maybe in side board. Also possible dragon master outcast in side ?

hi, i liked your deck and i have one thats quite similar, but without ramp or draws like yours
this is the link of my dragon deck https://deckstats.net/decks/5816/733944-dragons/pt
i think that browbeat is a good draw, archwing and utvara are excellent dragons to have

Thanks for the input guys! Mutavault's a bit pricey for the build as a budget deck but if used I think it's a solid, solid addition- I'll put it in the maybeboard with the simian spirit guides!

Great point about the stormbreath dragon being sideboarded against paths- that's a definite addition!

I actually did run this deck with archwing dragon for a while- on one hand it's amazing, because every turn you can re-cast it and get another scourge of valkas / dragon tempest trigger. The problem is, I built this deck aggro around avaricious dragon. Now on ONE hand, it's actually amazing synergy because you can trigger discard BEFORE returning it to hand, thus avoiding needing to discard it. But on the other hand, if you draw another dragon, you're going to want to cast it, and you won't have the mana to re-cast archwing, and it'll get graveyarded. I've had games that went both ways, but since it's a guarantee that after a few turns at the most you'll have better ways to spend your mana, I opted to do without archwing.

Utvara dragon's powerful, no doubt, but it's simply too high cmc for this deck. Dragons you can cast early game are the basis of this deck. For a similar reason, dragonmaster outcast is another card I tried in this deck and ended up taking out- it's pretty rare to reach 6 lands before being able to end the game!

Nice deck. 1 Suggestion tho, wouldn't Hazoret's Monument benefit in here?

This is an old G/R Dragon deck I built for a friend a while back.
It's not budget due to the land base and some cards here and there, but that can be ignored.
I feel like green is necessary to ramp into the big dragons that you want to play.
Maybe you'll get some ideas from looking at it.
