Epicure of Blood is a life gain pay off I've had my eye on for awhile, and some people might read it as a bad sanguine bond on a creature, but the fact that its ability doesn't target and affects each opponent can be more useful if you're getting lots of little lifegain triggers rather than on big one. Plus Kenrith can return it.

Thank you! This deck is far from complete but it seems to be coming together lol mostly started because I wanted an abzan lifegain deck and couldn’t find it and I picked up a Kenrith. Course now that I have access to Kenrith and all the colors it’s hard to not be tempted and cross over to some other fun things.

I'm really curious about the mana base you'll prepare, it seems like blue isn't very represented and it almost seems like a 4 color deck because of that.

Yeah it does and I was thinking about cutting a lot of the red too to make it more like a 3 color deck. I generally do the mana base last though just to make sure I get my proportions right. For blue it will depend on how much interaction/draw I want to have in there. Also training grounds/biomancers familiar and Kenrith’s draw ability all require blue so I can’t simply ignore it. Just depends on how much I want to lean into it. They all only require one pip though. Also lifegain let’s me lean into pain lands like Tarnished Citidel and City of Brass. Most of my shocks/fetches are spoken for so I was thinking about running a more budget version of the mana base. It will be a fun one to get into just have to cut it down to 60-61 cards in the main deck. I don’t like running less than 38 lands in 5c. But maybe I can cut a few depending on the ramp too. Idk we will see. Personally I think the mana base is going to be easier then cutting the deck to 60-61 of highly effective and synergistic cards that will focus on lifegain and resilient win conditions. Well resilient but not infinite. Personally I don’t like playing with infinite combos. Just feels too easy and anticlimactic. Plus it seems like those get stale after a while. If I’m going to put this together I would like to keep it fun and interesting every time I play the deck. Oh well it will keep percolating in my brain for a while.
