Golos Green-My first deck build in 19 years
« on: October 12, 2020, 02:31:38 am »
I was out of MtG for 19 years until a few weeks ago.  Any opinions and suggestions would be awesome.

I only started brewing in Magic a few weeks ago (although I've wanted to for about a year longer), so welcome back.  You should flag Golos, Tireless Pilgrim as your Commander and consider running more Green mana sources as most of your mana symbols are Green.  Beyond that I don't have enough experience to give you any further feedback at this time.

Thank you for pointing that out.  I thought I did that.  A few of my creatures give me green mana.

You are right about the Creatures; I didn't read all of them very carefully.  Scapeshift is kind of like Elvish Reclaimer but en masse.  I like Chromatic Lantern but you have other ways of getting any colors you need.  I really like the new double-faced cards that have Land on one or both sides, but still I wonder:

Have you considered using "Shock Lands" (e.g. Temple Garden, Stomping Ground), "Filter Lands" (e.g. Wooded Bastion), "Check Lands" (e.g. Sunpetal Grove), "Bond Lands" (e.g. Bountiful Promenade) or "Pain Lands" (e.g. Brushland)?  Most of my examples have White because I ripped them out of the only Deck I've designed so far that uses all five types (all of which come in all ten bicolor combinations), which is predominately White (but with quite a bit of Green, obviously).

EDIT (since I happened to have the page open): Overgrown Tomb and Breeding Pool are the other two "Shock Lands" that contain Green, in case you were curious.

I think this deck would benefit a lot from narrowing the focus a bit. If you plan to spend this much money, you can get way more bang for your buck. As just one example, Overcome is a strictly worse version of the original Overrun. An even better version is Triumph of the Hordes, but that one's a bit salt inducing.

To give you an idea, I'll link my Omnath, Locus of Rage landfall deck. It's mainly landfall with a token sub theme. If you want more specific advice or have any questions, I'd be happy to go into more detail.

(This is a very casual deck and not meant as an example of great deck building. It just has a lot of the better landfall/ token cards in it.)

Elves and infect are the best things in Magic.

Not to mention Craterhoof Behemoth if cardprices are out of question. ;)

Of course I'm sure I've gone mad. The little man who crawled out of my eye was quite clear on this.

Thank you for the reply.  Money is an object for sure.  I’ve been lucky with most of these cards.  I have also had some luck pulling expensive foils which I quickly sell for non foil and usually older versions.  In the past week I’ve sold four cards for $240.  What the analyzer says I paid for the deck is way off (on the high side). With that being said I was heavily into Magic from unlimited to about 2001.  Commander is what brought me back.  I have no clue as to what most cards are unless they are recent so any help is great.  I know it’s a little scattered right now.  I was obviously going for mana ramping but I had it doing too much.  I would have so much mana with no where to spend it.  I have overcome in it because that’s what I pulled.  Honestly I was never the best at putting great decks together in standard formats so I will take any advice.  I have made a couple of changes already but it was just a few shock lands.  I will check yours out and any other advice you, or anybody else has would be great.  This deck was built based on a few different EDH decks I saw built using golos as the commander.
