The best historic decks - Arena
« en: Octubre 27, 2020, 08:56:45 am »
When historic first released there was a pretty common misconception that it was just standard before the Oko ban.

Thankfully now the the format has had time to breathe we can start talking about the best lists available in no particular order.

1. Phoenix, loosing chart a course absolutely killed this deck in standard, but in historic it is alive and well. The only thing is that the predictable play pattern is easily countered.

2. Oko food, oh yes it is a strong list one of the best, but it is very weak to ixalan's binding, without it's walkers this list only has big single creatures to play and doesn't go wide well.

3. Vamps the best tribal list thanks to an aggressive early board, Sorin for 3 mana, and a lot of late game draw options.

4. Asorious/esper control it's very strong. You can run the standard 8 Tefari's or freestyle it a bit and still do amazingly well either way.

5. Grixis it's gotta be decent but nobody is playing it. If 8 bolas's are wrong I don't want to be right.

6 Scapeshift very strong unlimited zombies is never a bad thing, but throne of eldraine lists have stopped the dominance of this deck

7 Nexus of fate same issue, the level of aggression present in throne decks makes alternative win cons too greedy.

8 Kitty aristocrats, probably the single greatest tech pressure on the historic front, if you can't deal with this list, you can't play this format

9 Tempo/Flash playing strong aggressive creatures during your opponents turn at instant speed, while running cheap cost effective counter spells means this deck wins the award for most frustratingly effective list in historic.

Here is the list of new and old standard decks that don't work in historic

1. Gruul - aggressive creature lists are weak to the old control options that rotated out

2. mono red - Really only lost lightning strike in rotation so it has nothing to gain in historic and everything to loose

3. White weenie/knights - kinda gets out shined by vamps

4 green stompy/henge - Oko food is just better at presenting threats

5 mono black discard - not really as scary when every deck has a never ending value ceiling
