Mark Rosewater's clues are out. I'm pretty sure I can safely tick off "more tribal cards for an obscure tribe".

• a legendary character best known for having his name on a powerful card (that’s been banned) finally gets a legendary creature
• a theme on only a handful of cards in Modern Horizons gets a larger presence
• a Frog twenty-six years in the making
• new split cards
• a Future Sight mechanic reused for first time
• a character that first appeared in a Magic novel finally becomes a legendary creature
• A card with the number words “four” and “fourteen”.
• a fan favorite animal character finally becomes a legendary creature
• a white enchantment with a trigger that investigates
• a planeswalker from the past that has previously only had a legendary creature card
• “Whenever you cast your third spell each turn,”
• “for each other Ooze you control.”
• “If an ability of a <CENSORED> or another <CENSORED> you control triggers, that ability triggers an additional time.”
• “This ability costs 1 less to activate for each +1/+1 counter on creatures you control.”
• “you may sacrifice a Mountain rather than pay this spell’s mana cost.”
• “Trample over planeswalkers”
• “If an Insect card was milled this way,”
• “Protection from permanents with corruption counters on them”
• “choose a number between 1 and 5. Flip that many coins.”
• “instead create one of each.”
• Artifact Creature – Assembly-Worker
• Creature – Dinosaur Illusion
• Creature – Dauthi Rogue
• Creature – Skeleton Shaman
• Creature – Elemental Incarnation
• Artifact Creature – Clue Myr
• Tribal Artifact – Lhurgoyf
• Legendary Creature – Merfolk God
• Legendary Creature – Snake Elf Scout
• Legendary Creature – Squirrel Warrior

So, first and foremost
• Artifact Creature – Clue Myr
Hot damn! New myr creature!

Next, I'm willing to bet the new planeswalker is either Urza or Yawgmoth, given they were both made legends for the first time in the last modern horizons.

Probably Yawgmoth, if you count the Unstable Urza.

I really like the clue mechanic, so I'm excited for these.

• Legendary Creature – Merfolk God
• Legendary Creature – Snake Elf Scout
A Merfolk God? Wack.

Imagine if it was just Tibalt in disguise again. I could get behind that being a running joke in the MTG universe.

Someone over Discord pointed out that the merfolk god might be Svyelunite, like from Svyelunite Temple and Svyelunite Priest.

Big nostalgia points if that's the case.

I think that "Svyelunite" means "of Svyelun", like "Kamahlite" in the flavor text of Krosan Grip. So this god's name would be Svyelun. But more importantly, who do you think this is?

A legendary character best known for having his name on a powerful card (that’s been banned) finally gets a legendary creature.

Must be a male character since a male pronoun was used. Some options people are suggesting:

-Ugin (Eye of Ugin is banned in Modern): I think he doesn't fit the "best known for" part, since Ugin is best known for his powerful Planeswalker cards.

-Tourach (Hymn to Tourach is banned in Pauper and I think it was banned in some of the older formats): The character just seems too obscure to me.

-Quoz (Amulet of Quoz is banned in Legacy and Vintage): Obscure character, and also doesn't fit the "powerful card" part.

I think however that the name of the character could also be on the flavor text of the card. Also, it could be a card that was previously banned and is now unbanned. This makes things much more interesting! What are your guesses?

I was just thinking, it could be super cool if it was Marit Lage (Dark Depths being banned in Modern)! But she's a "she" so unless Maro misused the pronoun I'm not sure it could be her...

For the legendary character, I'd say it will be Ashnod but that is almost too easy.

So I've been asking around and gathering opinions, and I think I got a lot of these figured out.

Quote
• a legendary character best known for having his name on a powerful card (that’s been banned) finally gets a legendary creature

That's got to be Tourach. The pronoun is male so that rules out Ashnod and Marit Lage.

Quote
• a theme on only a handful of cards in Modern Horizons gets a larger presence

The important word choice here is "theme". Not mechanic, so not something like level-up or convoke. It could be something like snow, but that ended up having a pretty large presence. It could be something like charms, as we saw Umezawa's Charm and Archmage's Charm. There are a lot of things that weren't explored much.

Quote
• a Frog twenty-six years in the making

Chub Toad related. Ice Age was 26 years ago, so this checks out.

Quote
• a Future Sight mechanic reused for first time

This could be Absorb, Aura Swap, Fateseal, Fortify, Frenzy, Grandeur, Gravestorm, Poisonous, Transfigure, and [creature-type]cycling. I think it's going to be the creature-type cycling like we saw with Vedalken Aethermage and Homing Sliver.

Quote
• a character that first appeared in a Magic novel finally becomes a legendary creature

There's a lot that can fit the bill here. Garth, Turg, Baltrice, and countless others.

Quote
• A card with the number words “four” and “fourteen”.

If they're written out as words, they are part of a name.

Quote
• a fan favorite animal character finally becomes a legendary creature

Storm Crow? Brushwagg? Turg again? I can't think of any fan favorite animals.

Quote
• a planeswalker from the past that has previously only had a legendary creature card

All my friends are betting on Dakkon Blackblade. I think it's going to be Urza.

The only reason I think Yawgmoth instead of Urza is Urza, Academy Headmaster exists. If Rosewater's not counting Un sets,  I think Urza, too.

Gravestorm
Please please please. I need gravestorm cards in my life. If I got an actually decent black gravestorm card, I would genuinely forgive WotC for the The Walking Dead Secret Lair fiasco.

Not so fast.  See Harmonize.  Card draw has the quantity written out as words.  Mill does too.  See Jace, Memory Adept.  I suspect it is some mill effect.  "Player mills four.  If {some condition is met}, mill fourteen instead."

I'd love a Ashnod card, but Ashnod is a "she" unfortunately!
