Commander Deck Reviews / Re: [EDH] Budget First Sliver
« on: June 14, 2020, 03:04:19 am »
The deck is a copy of the Budget First Sliver deck, i havent made any changes to the land base.

Honestly, land is the most expensive but decidedly un-sexy thing in magic.. but i might as well throw money at it now to make all of my decks better..

Im going to go ahead and buy the set of check lands. Ill look into buying pain lands also.

as an aside, i wish i could add a wish list to my decks. possibly under the maybe board.

edit: im having a hard time getting rid of the ramp here..  removing cards is always a problem for me. i can see how i would use everything there.. help removing some of those to make way for other cards would be great.

edit:
+ Sliver legion
+ sliver  hive

I removed a forest, and a 3 mana artifact.

https://deckstats.net/decks/154223/1667607-copy-of-budget-first-sliver

I just bought this deck from TCG, looking into ways to make it better. i already made some edits from the original budget first sliver deck.

one card i really want to add is a Sliver Legion, which im planning on doing. its just.. costly.

Im really interested by slivers, and i hope my play group wont refuse to play against this deck (one friend already said he will not play it because slivers arent fun)

any advice on this deck would be great. thank you!

If anyone has any recommendations please let me know. i added a few cards and got rid of some others to give the deck lifelink and some more mana management.

General Magic / Re: Do you like Ikoria's mutate cards?

As an update..

Ive been playing my Nethroi deck and i love mutate. I play EDH almost exclusively. having hex proof is a must for a mutate stack, but that not too hard to get in EDH.

A lot of my friends that are long time magic players (ive only been playing for 4 months myself) are saying they think they could have done better with mutate, but im enjoying it.

As an aside.. over the last 4 months, i have bought 4 booster boxes. (Ikoria, theros beyond death, hour of devastation, war of the spark)
Im not sure if i just got lucky with this box, but this is the first box that i opened and was able to construct a decent commander deck from. most of my cards in my Nethroi deck are from this expansion. the other boxes had great cards, but the box didnt let me build much.

overall, super happy with this.

Lurrus of the Dream-Den says that you may play a PERMANENT spell ... Finale of Devastation is not a permanent spell (everything except instant and sorcery).

But to fully answer the question, if you were to cast a permanent like Stonecoil Serpent from your graveyard using Lurrus, you wuold calculate the converted mana cost using the value you intend to use for X, so you could cast Stonecoil Serpent for 2, 1, or 0.  But nothing bigger.

ah, i missed the "permanent' part

Another question.

Can lurrus of the dream-den play finale of devastation? its CMC is 2, but im not sure if lurrus of the dream-den's effect forces me to only play two to play the card from the graveyard

If i can pay the X cost for finale of devastation.. that would be quite the combo

i didnt know that in order for something to "die" it had to actually go to the graveyard.... interesting.

made some changes. let me know what you think.
i might go in and change some lands around to get rid of tap lands.
Im hesitant on removing many of them, because the flexibility of the two type lands is nice when you have a hard time getting out all of your commander colors. ill play around with it.

Ive taken what i can. ill have to do another search of my library, but this seems to be the best i can do for ramp right now. any singles i buy will take at least a month to get to me due to being deployed. but ill get there!

Removed
- Elspeth Conquers Death
- Altar of the Pantheon
- Nyx Lotus
- Renata, Called To the Hunt
- Void Beckoner
- Karametra's Blessing
- Minion's Return

Added
- Silent Arbiter              I tend to put menace on my big creatures. this would essentially make my biggest guy unblockable
- Mindleecher                its a flyer which is nice, and also gives me cards to play from exile
- Sidisi, Undead Vizier    tutor
- Gaze of Granite           i needed something to board wipe
- Deadly Tempest          board wipe
- Arcane Signet             ramp
- Bonder's Ornament     more mana
- Sol Ring                     some more ramp

Commander Deck Reviews / Nethroi, Mutate Madness

The idea is pretty simple. make big guys and trigger mutate abilities.

things i need to make it better.

More, better, mutate cards - i only have around 12 mutates in here. the other cards i have access to with mutate just dont fit well in the deck. im hurting the most on white cards.

Hexproof - i have a mirror shield in here to get hexproof. i need more creatures with hexproof as an ability so i can mutate ontop of that.

lands - my land base could be better. im not sure how.. but it can always be better.

let me know what you think. any advise is always appriciated!

General Magic / Mutate questions.
« on: June 06, 2020, 10:37:37 pm »
1. does a creature with mutate inherit all names from creature in the bottom of the mutate pile?
for creatures that specify a name in their abilities, do they still work when they have a creature mutate ontop of them?

2. When the top creature in a mutate pile is sent back to your hand, do all creatures go back to your hand from that pile?
i know when you flicker a mutate pile, all creatures in that stack come back but are the individual creatures and are no longer mutated
    together.

i wish i could look this up myself.. i know google would have the answers. but im on a floating ship in the middle of the ocean and those web sites are blocked.

Fleet Swallower + Fraying Sanity: Curse yourself with Fraying Sanity, and then attack with Fleet Swallower, milling your entire library. You now have infinite extra turns with Nexus of Fate

im a bit confused. shouldnt this deck yourself at the beginning of your next turn? i know im missing something here.. id just like to know what im missing.

EDIT: I did miss something... how dumb of me..
this is a silly combo and i shall need to use it..

General Magic / Do you like Ikoria's mutate cards?
« on: May 31, 2020, 10:52:37 pm »
I havent been able to play Ikoria yet, as im stuck on a boat in the middle of the ocean... but soon!

Im wondering if you guys are enjoying the mutate mechanic, or if its fallen pretty flat.

I bought the enhanced evolution commander precon, and a booster box of ikoria. im hoping to make a good commander deck that is a mutate themed deck.

I love the idea of Nethroi, Apex of Death as a commander,
Im confused about how well this deck is going to play though. how are you planning to take advantage of his mutate ability?
There are a lot of sacrifice cards in this deck. if youre planning on sacrificing him, the commander tax is going to become quite expensive.
i feel like it would be best to give yourself a bunch of cards that have mutate so you can mutate this guy several times to get cards back out to the battlefield.

unless im missing something.. which i probably am.
