General Magic / Re: Games you've enjoyed
« on: July 19, 2021, 06:56:35 am »
My favorite game was against a friend online, he had a token deck with several hundred tokens in play due to swarm scute and multiple land searchers. He even said good game at the end of his turn. My turn rolls around and I played massacre wurm.  I remember this other game against this one friend of mine. I was playing a token deck and had a protective wall. He played this annoying combo that involved boros reckoner with two other cards that included boros charm and 2 blasphemous act. Needless to say my token generator wall was meaningless and ended up backfiring.

General Magic / Re: [Question] What's your first deck ever?
« on: July 19, 2021, 06:46:23 am »
I have had three first decks since I suddenly stopped playing and then restart. My very first deck was a land creature deck that was a nightmare to play, might be why I quit the first time. The second deck I restarted with was a red and blue instant deck that bored me because it was way too easy to play. Then I created a life gain token deck which eventually evolved into a pure token modern deck. Still play it with the name of empty void. Not the best deck in the world, but I still love playing it.

General Magic / The immortal slime combo
« on: July 18, 2021, 06:02:05 am »
This combo is something I found on mtg arena. If the ozolith is out and you spend at least two additional with the one green mana to play ochre jelly, the jelly will increase in power. Here is how it works, spend three mana on jelly so he is a 2/2 creature, attack or block with him, his two counters go on the ozolith, and he revives as a 1/1 creature, next turn move the two counters to him to make him a 3/3, continue with fun. Some of the better cards to add to combo would be ranger class or renata. There is one weakness to the combo in that if the jelly is exiled or destroyed as a 1/1 creature, he will not revive.

Deck Reviews / Zombieland

The main idea of this deck is to overwhelm the opponent with zombies and skeletons while benefitting for tokens dying. I know it might need 2 or 3 more lands since it is sitting at 22, but I hope to playtest this first and see from there especially with the heraldic banner and the low mana cost for most of the cards.

I like this deck, reminds me of my Touch of Decay Deck which uses a similar strategy, but instead targets my opponent's creatures rather than my own. It uses creatures with infect and wither to boost the number of -1/-1 counters. Some cards to consider would be blowfly infestation and creakwood liege, although those might not work with the main idea of this deck.

Kind of figured that. Oh well, still an interesting card. Thanks for your help.

General Magic / Shimmerdrift vale question
« on: May 23, 2021, 02:25:42 am »
Here is my question regarding shimmerdrift vale. Say you play it on the first turn and choose black. Next turn you play reflecting pool, can you use reflecting pool as any mana since vale could have produced any mana before choosing black or would reflecting pool only produce black in this scenario. I suspect it is the latter but I am not one hundred percent sure.

I am debating on switching mire triton for grimdancer. I am also wondering if massacre worm is a better pick over syr konrad.

Here is my life drain deck. I swapped out vito for marauding blight priest mainly because I was only doing 1 damage for the most part. Also most of cards either have lifelink or with heliod can gain them. I am debating on adding a third one, but am unsure of what to take out for it if anything.

Deck Reviews / Rogue Mill

This is the first mill deck I have created. The main idea of this deck is as in most mills to destroy your opponent's library, but where this one is different is the focus of rogues that gain a great deal of power depending on your opponent's grave. I did initially have the blue rogues, Merfolk Windrobber and Zulaport Duelist, but found them a bit slow and swapped in Merfolk Secretkeeper // Venture Deeper and Sweet Oblivion in for them. I also tried Syr Konrad, the Grim and Zareth San, the Trickster in place of Ashiok, Nightmare Muse, but found syr konrad a bit clunky and zareth although great after the first attack becomes meh since it does not have flying.

Interesting deck. I could never get cavern of souls to really work in my vampire deck as shown here: https://deckstats.net/decks/34804/742719-underworld-vampire . I would suggest switching it out for more swamps and perhaps have fabled passage instead of the prismatic vista, but those lands do similar things so I am just splitting hairs. Another idea would be to swap out two swamps for two more agadeem's awakening. Really like the new land/sorceries that have come out. They might slow a deck down a little the first two or three turns, but if you have seven lands, last thing you need to draw is another land.

General Magic / Scute combo
« on: October 16, 2020, 05:00:12 pm »
Just found an interesting combo. This includes Ancient Greenwarden, Ashaya, Soul of the Wild, and the infamous Scute Swarm. If all three cards on the field, any creature triggers Scute Swarm. I was playing Arena against spark and ended up drawing because of the number of tokens that were generated. I got over two hundred in a single turn and could have gotten over 400 if I had really wanted to. Ashaya turns nontokens into lands while greenwarden doubles any effect that triggers when a land hits the field.
