Greetings everyone, this is your friendly neighborhood vamp G. Moto. I know I've been a little absent due to my travels across the multiverse but I wanted to stop by and wish everyone a Happy New Year. I hope that everyone is being safe especially with the forces of phyrexia on the rise. Let's all have a great year and if there are any new players, then I say welcome to magic the gathering!

Greetings everyone this is your favorite vampire Walker G. Moto here. I finally found some new land for the placement of my castle which is an ongoing process but I'm keeping my hopes up to rebuild the Markov Manor. I know it's been awhile but I hope that everyone is doing all right out here in the multiverse. Since I've last been here there's been a lot of set releases such as the most recent Kamigawa and my favorite home plane innistrad. Olivia was a nuisance but thankfully the gatewatch was able to help deal with her. Hopefully everyone is doing all right and if anyone wants to catch up for Old Time sake just feel free to drop a line. And for any new members to the game, welcome to magic the gathering!!!

Hello all my fellow walkers from across the multiverse. This is your friendly planeswalking vamp G. Moto here wanting to extend greetings to anyone who may be new to the forum and to old friends that have been long missed. It brings me much joy to know that we are returning back to my home plane and that I can share this experience with so many of you. Unfortunately the howlpacks are becoming more brazen so lets hope that Arlen and the other walkers currently on Innistrad can try and cleanup this mess. I'd have more of a presence in this story but I've been busy with some ....."Arrangements". Needless to say I look forward to seeing you all. Enjoy your stay on innistrad and don't forget; Be safe, watch your backs, and for those who are new to the game, Welcome to the world of Magic The Gathering.

Hello everyone, this is your favorite Planes-walking Vamp G. Moto here. I know I have been away for a while (working on rebuilding my castle in a different plane right now), but I wanted to take the time to check up on everyone. The world we're currently living in can be a dangerous and hazardous place and I wanted to let you all know that I haven't forgotten about any of you. Feel free to drop a line or send me a message if anyone wants to talk. If you have a deity or eldritch being you follow then I'll say keep your faith alive. Please be safe everyone and keep being the amazing people that you all are. This community wouldn't be what it is without any of you.

Hello everyone, I have an task that I'm attempting to undergo and I would like the community's advice. I'm planning on building a 5-color commander deck using the new Dominaria cards (specifically the members of the Gatewatch) and am not entirely sure which commander should be the general of my deck. Any one have any ideas?

General Magic / Returning to our plane

Hello ladies and gentlemen of the mutiverse, this is your favorite planeswalking vamp G. Moto returning from across the blind eternities. I've been away handling other inter-planer dilemma threats and paid a visit to my local mage arenas with much excitement. I'm eager to get back into things after being away for so long so apologize to those who I may have missed since my last departing. I wish all new mages and wizards a warm welcome to Deckstats.net, our online home and forum.

Deck Reviews / The Grim Captain's Garden

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9MdzUFwPsw (start watching at the 24 min.15 sec mark)

So I was watching this video on the Rivals of Ixalan set review and one of the cards that the commentators was talking about was called the World Shaper. They gave it a fairly negative review based off of it's usability but I saw something special in this card. So being the creative vamp that I am I decided to construct a deck around this wonderful tree hugging merfolk.

https://deckstats.net/decks/24826/892312-the-grim-captain-s-garden

So far the deck is made larger to mill as many creatures and lands as possible. The sideboard's card amounts are subject to change but the boneyard parley is definitely something that I'd like to use. Your comments and suggestions are welcome.

General Magic / How Much Mana Do I Need?
« on: January 15, 2018, 04:01:29 am »
Hello everyone, I hope that all who attended the pre-release had a good time, had some good pulls and really enjoyed themselves. A few months ago during my absence I was away at college advancing my education. While there I had a math class and amazingly my Math Professor also played magic the gathering. Knowing how magic works he was actually able to teach me how to balance mana without having to put your deck into this forum. This skill came in handy at my pre-release where I had minimum time to actually build my deck. Using this quick 5-minute process I was really able to help out a few people at the event so now I am going to help you all by sharing what I learned:

For this example I'll use my Abzan Deck that I played at the pre-release event that I attended.
https://deckstats.net/decks/24826/891480--pre-release-draft-build-old-f

Step 1: Count the color devotion of all of your cards that are going to be in this deck (for example, 17 Green/11 Black/14 white). Once you have your total (42) this is the number you'll keep in mind for step 2 of this process.

Step 2: divide the number of devotion of each color by the accumulated devotion cost of your deck:
17/42= 0.404 = 40%
11/42= 0.261 = 26%
14/42 = 0.333 = 33%
Note; the percent values my vary due to rounding but it's the decimal values that will be most important.

Step 3: Know how many lands you want in your deck and then multiply that number by the decimal values of each of your devotion colors. It's best to have your deck be 1/3 of your deck and in my deck I like to run an average 24 lands. The land count may vary between decks but that's why it's important to know your land count before getting to this stage. For this deck I chose 25 lands so this is what I did:
25*0.404=10.1 = 10 Forests
25*0.261=6.5 = 7 Swamps
25*0.333=8.3 = 8 Plains

When you have gotten your land count it should equal the number of lands that you want to have included in this deck. This is how you balance mana by hand without a simulator. I'd recommend keeping a calculator with you so that not only can it help you with actual game values that change (ex. damage calculation, stat changes, changing life totals), but now you can balance decks on the fly. Based on how you shuffle there is always the possibility that you may get mana flooded or drought during some games. But as this is possible no matter the deck I would feel safe to say that this is a sure fire way to balance the ratio in any deck. If you ever feel that you getting too much mana or not enough mana adjust how much land that you have. Just don't forget that when you take out or add cards to your deck, to avoid changing the values switch out cards that have the same devotion costs. Otherwise once you've decided what you want to switch and change around make sure you do this process again and it'll give you the corrected values. I hope that this all helps my young planeswalkers. May you all grow wise with your years and remember, the blind eternities is the limit :)

Burn and Run

During the pre-release I had enough cards in my card pool to create TWO separate decks. This is the Second deck that I created and used interchangeably during my Saturday draft.

[Pre-release Draft Build] Old Fangs, New Power

During the pre-release I had enough cards in my card pool to build TWO separate decks. This was my first deck that I used interchangeably against my various opponents.
This deck is an Abzan (W/B/G) deck using dinosaurs and vampires. The deck utilizes a life gain and aggro kind of play style against the opponent.

Your Loss My Gain

Dimir (U/B) Pirate deck. The focus is on hand discard and using raider's wake for added life loss. Make sure the opponent runs out of resources and create treasure so that the Deadeye Plunderer will be as strong as possible. Am planning on making this deck Grixis, otherwise I'll keep the deck as is.

One Fish Two Fish, Green Fish Blue Fish?

Merfolk Deck that is G/U. Uses +1/+! counter producing cards and creatures that can both fly and become unblockable. Plenty of hexproofing going on in this deck.

W/B Vampire deck that uses token production and life gain to stay in the game. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Have not tested this deck, I just finished construction on it.

Deck Reviews / [Standard] The Lurking Woods

https://deckstats.net/decks/24826/889116-the-lurking-wood

This deck is something that I've wanted to build because of the Chupacabra. After seeing the rest of the cards in the set I saw some variations on this deck I was able to build. If you guys have any suggestions or comments then let me know. This deck is still under construction but I am comfortable where it's at so far with its playstyle. Play creatures to explore, but if the Lurking Chupacabra and/or Wildgrowth walker are no the filed then it's extra benefit.
