And, to be clear, if I could could get paid to be ambiguous on social media and write a weekly article of "water is wet" level takes, I absolutely would.
Hot diggity damn that's a sentence and a half.

I never had respect for Sheldon tbh. I follow the banlist and that's it.

I'm honestly in love with this set.

Lonis looks like so much fun, and Legion Vanguard should be really, really good in Alesha.

Svyelun, God of Sea and Sky
1UU
Legendary Creature - Merfolk God
If you control two other merfolks, Svyelun, God of Sea and Sky has indestructible.

When Svyelun, God of Sea and Sky attacks, draw a card.

Other merfolk you control have Ward 1.

3/4

And it's illustrated by Seb McKinnon. I need one yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Ezuri may have a new friend? When I first looked at this card, I thought it was absurdly good, but then I realized it only applies to green creatures. Still powerful, and I think a lot of multicolor commanders that make green tokens will really like this card even if they don't care about the buff.

Can I just point out that this thing here is annoying and unnecessarily rude against colourless decks.
Yeah, that's a really strange card. I'm assuming it's to beat up tron decks in modern or something?
I mean, it works against cards that you cast without paying their mana cost (or that cost 0 mana), right?

If you cast a Force of Negation for its alternate cost, you aren't spending any colored mana on it, so I would think Void Mirror would counter it.

I love Unmarked Grave. It seems powerful, but it has several riders to make it not Entomb/Demonic Tutor level of strong. Cool card.

Gravestorm
Please please please. I need gravestorm cards in my life. If I got an actually decent black gravestorm card, I would genuinely forgive WotC for the The Walking Dead Secret Lair fiasco.

Imo, Sage's Row Denizen is best, followed by Altar of Dementia, followed by Altar of the Brood. Sage's Row Denizen, while 1 more mana than Altar of Dementia, stacks when you have multiple. If you draw 2 Denizens for example, you mill double the amount of cards with one Master of Waves (also the Denizen adds to your devotion for more Elementals). While multiple Altar of Dementia is bad (as more than one doesn't get you any additional mill), it is good because you can play all of your creatures, then play Altar of Dementia for mill. If you rely entirely on Sage's Row Denizen and Altar of the Brood, your mill cards are inflexible and frontloaded, so you can't play your Master of the Waves until after you get your mill cards out.

I would run 4x Sage's Row Denizen, at most 3x Altar of Dementia (because, again, multiples are bad), and fill whatever remaining slots you have with Altar of the Brood, as it is still a pretty good card.

• a white enchantment with a trigger that investigates
• Artifact Creature – Clue Myr
I really like the clue mechanic, so I'm excited for these.

• Legendary Creature – Merfolk God
• Legendary Creature – Snake Elf Scout
A Merfolk God? Wack.

General Magic / Re: I have a question about two card interactions
« on: May 14, 2021, 11:19:21 pm »
Uh, I might be wrong but isn't the question whether a Nahiri's Lithoforming played on another player's turn with Vedalken Orrery allows you to play lands?

So you don't quite actually answer the question, Robort.

I don't know the answer, though. I would imagine you can only play lands on your turn, but I'm not sure.

Commander Deck Reviews / Re: [EDH/Commander] The Trump's Deck

Why? I've 36 lands for a media of mana of 2.48
Perhaps I'm the one getting r/wooshed here, but Trump claimed he would make Mexico pay for his wall, hence the "making your opponents pay the mana cost for your walls".

I think you missed that the kaldheim duals are also snow lands, so in terms of the regular snow duals from cold snap, there's no reason to not run the kaldheim duals instead unless you need even MORE snow duals. Also, the Kaldheim duals are almost all cheaper than any of the cold snap duals, and the kaldheim duals are a complete cycle, not just ally colors like the coldsnap duals.
Added. Thanks!

Commander Discussion / Re: How much card draw do you use?
« on: May 08, 2021, 07:42:17 pm »
With the same metrics as Golgari Guy in mind:

Meren: 7 (and 7 pseudo draw)
Alesha: 8 (and 5 pseudo draw)
Kumena: 9 (counting Kumena as 2, which is probably under-representing him)
Ezuri: 12

Both of my Meren and Alesha decks are built to make their respective commanders into (basically) draw, and a lot of my card advantage puts stuff into the gy, which means it looks like I don't have much draw. Also, I have a lot of one-sided removal, so a one-sided boardwipe like Dusk // Dawn in Alesha probably generates more advantage than regular draw spells in other decks.

I have a very consistent & small playgroup that I haven't met with since pre-Covid (we've played online a couple times, but not much), but most of my play has been online with randoms.

Because of how much work I've done on my decks during quarantine, I'd say that I am no longer building for a specific playgroup. If I was building for my playgroup, I would probably be dropping a lot of my removal, as it wouldn't be necessary (as a result of my playgroup's style/power level).

I'm building for online play, with varying playstyles, power level, strategies, etc., so all of my decks have ample removal & protection, etc. so I can deal with whatever I'm up against. That's probably the reason why I have (to me) an abnormal amount of protection, especially in my non-blue decks.
