Title: Beta-Test: Your Collection
Post by: Nils on March 22, 2015, 04:50:02 pm
Over the last few months I have been working on a new feature that has been requested over and over again: A way to save your MTG card collection on DeckStats.net. And now this feature is finally ready for beta testing!

What is this for?

The Collection feature allows you to make a list of all the cards you own and save them on DeckStats. In our Deckbuilder you can then choose only to display cards that you have in your collection, allowing you to build decks with the cards you actually own. And when you view a deck, you will see a new column indicating whether you have each card in your collection! In addition, you can also send your friends a link to your collection, to show them what cards you have.

What is still missing?

There are a few things I am still planning on adding, but haven't had the chance yet due to time constraints. A few examples:What else do I need to know?

Since this is still in beta testing there is a small chance that your list of cards might get lost. To make sure this doesn't happen, I would suggest you save a backup of your card lists from time to time. You can use the Export button to do this. Also, your collection will be publicly visible. So if yo don't want your friends to know that you own ten Black Lotus (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Black+Lotus), don't put them in your collection! ;)

If you want to try this out, here is the link:
http://deckstats.net/collection/

Please let me know what you are still missing or if there are any problems!

For me, the most important feature would be to allow picking the set of the card. I'd like this for regular deckbuilding as well, for the aesthetics.

You can! :D

This is so great!

But sometimes, mostly after entering (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=de&card=Entering) some more cards to my collection, I was redirected to a page where I have to enter a captcha.
The page looks not like the other pages here (is this a official page?).
After entering (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=de&card=Entering) the captcha, I was (not quite sure anymore) redirected to the collections page and sadly the progress was lost.
Saving now after a few cards, just to be sure  :D

Being able to specify a set in the collection manager is one of the next items on my to-do list. Sorry it is taking so long, I have quite a lot of other things on my plate right now...

Talis: This means that our firewall thinks it detected some unusual activity and is blocking the request for security reasons. But if you are using the site normally this obviously should not happen! Next time you get this page, could you please note the error number, Ray ID and any other information displayed on that page and send them to me via PM/email?

Thanks!

I filled in about 700 Cards afterwards, saving in a span of 30 at max, not happened again so far. Sorry, would liked to have a specific report for you, maybe I'll try when I got time.
The time I got it was when I filled in about 100 Cards at once without saving in between, maybe it took to long or something, don't know.

Another thing:
Now with my collection nearly ready I tried out building a deck out of them, just to see that the amount of a card I have is not shown or limited while putting them in a deck of mine.
I would like to have the number displayed, so I can see how many cards I own and can put into my deck.
Thanks again for this great page, keep going! :)

I feel like the next step here should be allowing you:

a) to choose what edition you have of each card, even multiples.. so I might add to my location 4 lightning bolts, each from a different set (possibly also specify language for the card, using english as default if not specified)

b) when looking at your saved decks, have some marker showing which cards you own fully, which you own partially and which you are missing fully from a decklist (this option might be triggerable to turn it on/off as needed)

something like this:

(extract (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Extract) from a decklist - collection checking disabled, so as current)
4   Dragon Fodder (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Dragon+Fodder)
4   Goblin Grenade (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Goblin+Grenade)
4   Magma Jet (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Magma+Jet)

(collection checking ENABLED)
3   Dragon Fodder (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Dragon+Fodder) (I have fewer than 3 needed)
4   Goblin Grenade (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Goblin+Grenade) (I don't have any)
2   Magma Jet (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Magma+Jet) (I have all 2 needed)

This sounds awesome; I'll have to give it a try. I'm new to Magic, but I'd love to use this for making a list of cards I'm looking for. By choosing one or more decks (or automatically selecting WIPs) and comparing them with my collection, the site could make a single list of those cards. This would make it easier to shop or trade for multiple decks, and updating my collection would keep my looking-for list up-to-date automatically. Thanks for making a great site!

This is fantastic.

I see you have a  'foil' column.  How do I tag cards as foils?  Or is that still in the works?

edit:  Will you be implementing a CMC column to filter collections?  Kinda like the deckbuilder?
Title: Re: Beta-Test: Your Collection
Post by: Nils on August 31, 2015, 12:21:53 am
You should be able to tag cards as foil already (6th column in the collection manager). Is this not working for you?

We already discussed this on the Facebook page, so just to let everyone else know:
There was an issue with the configuration of our firewall that meant that there was a small chance that you might get interrupted by a CAPTCHA security page when you were saving the collection. Sorry about that! I have now made sure that this doesn't happen anymore.

In addition, I have just added some new code to the site that will temporarily save a backup of your collection when you click the save button.

If there are ever any problems in the future and your collection does not get saved properly, please contact me so we can try to restore (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Restore) it from this backup!

First off let me say that I absolutely love this site. I am relatively new to Magic and have just thrown decks together in the past, as evident by some of the decks I have posted on here. This site has helped me hone in my deck making abilities and I find that I am winning more and more as my knowledge of cards and strategies grow.

Something that I would like to see on here is a total cost of my collection. My collection is rapidly growing and I would like to know what its value is without having to add everything up manually with the given prices. It's just a curiosity (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Curiosity), not a need.

Thanks!

I also agree with gillette888 regarding have a running total of the cost of my collection.

I would be pleased if the ability to mark or have multiple sub-collections was included. This enables marking which cards are in which binder, or which deck rather than just knowing I have a playset of a certain card but no idea where all of them are among the 3 binders I have, various evolving decks and the overflowing uncommon/common boxes of doom.

As an aside, having recently returned to MtG this has really helped me review the decks I'm building, figuring out curves and such. My husband stopped mid-stride walking past me the other night while I was building a modern deck to ask what program I was using and then help me with the deck allowing him a chance to play with the site himself. Not only did he think it cool he was wowed at seeing such a good program he hadn't stumbled upon himself yet.

The only other thing on my wish list of eventually would be awesome is an app to access the collection to change my collection during trades rather than take notes and come home. One can dream.

If any of these are here and I'm just too new to the program to have found them, please tell me.

What would also be nice is the ability to have 2 collections.  One for paper and one for MTGO.  Then to be able to see which cards I am missing for that deck in paper or online.

Can you add a way to import all cards from a deck into the collection? That would eliminate me having to type all the cards in twice (once in the deckbuilder, and again into my collection).

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! It's great to hear that you are enjoying this feature. I just added a little "Collection Statistics" section to the page that shows the total cost of the collection, so you can now keep track of the total value of your cards. :)

Working on your other suggestions next!

I just tried the collection and it looks like its working pretty good so far. Is there any way to separate the collection into sections? For example a section for planeswalkers, for legendary creatures, for enchantments, etc... It would be a helpful feature.

HI, and thanks for making this collection program part of the site.
I have entered in about 1000+ cards, but when i save and go to view collection it only shows 800 cards. when i go back into the manager, the 1000 cards are still there. I tried deleteing and re-importing an csv of my collection. No change.

also is there a way this can help you quickly get a list of cards you are missing from each set. Lets say i input all the cards i just got from "Gates of the Oathwatch", could i get a list of missing cards so i have a quick way of knowing what i still need, and about how much that will cost.

Thanks

I would love to see the % of cards owned in a set and maybe a view list of the cards missing/unowned from each set so I can at a glance know what cards i need to add to finish out a set.

Might want to do something about the "Session Expired" when trying to save the collection.
Just lost couple hours to that when trying to save my collection and after giving me session expired error, it just showed my collection as it was before I started listing my cards.

When I feel like doing the same chore again in future, I'm surely going to save the collection after every color.
Otherwise, nice feature.

I just discovered this feature and imported my collection. My HUGE collection of over 16k cards. With the exception of it not recognizing some set codes it worked exceptionally well!!! This is my 98% accurate to a card collection on tcgplayer: http://store.tcgplayer.com/collection/view/251505 (When it first loads do a search for cards named Zurgo then delete Zurgo and let it repopulate (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Repopulate). It's buggy because the collection is so big.) What I do with that table is copy it then paste it as unformatted text only into a spreadsheet program (LibreOffice) and begin the tasks of using a lookup table to create a column of set codes based of the set name, removing any version/artist text from cards from sets like Fallen Empires and Homelands, assigning foil identification, etc, etc.  Then I convert into a csv file for import. I have been doing this for almost a year on Tappedout and was delighted to find that I could do it here as well. The import did not recognize a few set codes but I didnt dig to see if there were any codes beyond EMA not working. Keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to any new features that may be in the works.

There is a formatting issue when trying to export to Puca Trade. The header row should have the following columns, in any order:Count, Name, Foil, Edition, Condition, Language to work, and i think it needs to say the Expansion instead of the numbers.

*Note: For now, Non-English and non-Near-Mint cards will be imported as Not-for-trade.

The easiest way around this is put all 75 cards in the deck space.  Once you have verified the sideboard, or potential sideboard cards, then drop them down to the sideboard section.
Besides according to the advice of MANY pros.  You should always design a 75 card deck, and then figure out which ones to put in the sideboard..........

How do you specify the set for a card with a comma in the name?

I have no trouble importing this:

     card_name,set_name
     Volcanic Island (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Volcanic+Island),Revised Edition

But for the life of me I can't figure out how to import a card like Jace, the Mind Sculptor (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Jace%2C+the+Mind+Sculptor) while specifying the set name.  None of the following works (comma separated and tab separated examples are shown):

     card_name,set_name
Jace the Mind Sculptor (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Jace%2C+the+Mind+Sculptor),Eternal Masters
     Jace the Mind Sculptor (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Jace%2C+the+Mind+Sculptor),EMA
     Jace the Mind Sculptor (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Jace%2C+the+Mind+Sculptor),Worldwake
     Jace the Mind Sculptor (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Jace%2C+the+Mind+Sculptor),WWK

     card_name   set_name
Jace, the Mind Sculptor (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Jace%2C+the+Mind+Sculptor)   Eternal Masters
Jace, the Mind Sculptor (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Jace%2C+the+Mind+Sculptor)   EMA
Jace, the Mind Sculptor (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Jace%2C+the+Mind+Sculptor)   Worldwake
Jace, the Mind Sculptor (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Jace%2C+the+Mind+Sculptor)   WWK

Thanks for your feedback!

To add a card name containing a comma, you need to enclose it in quotation marks. So this should work:

Code: [Select]
card_name,set_name
Volcanic Island,Revised Edition
"Jace, the Mind Sculptor",Eternal Masters

Love the fact that we can specify the set, can we get some extra sets:
  • Anthologies
  • Introductory Two-Player Set
I don't have the card lists for these sets unfortunately, but I have just added the sets themselves to the database. So at least now you can select them manually for the cards you want. Hope this helps!

First of all great site! Nice work Nils!
I'm only playing MTG since this summer, so my card list is nog that huge (+- 1000)... Is it possible to add a feature in the 'deck search' where I can search on decks where is have eg. >80% of the cards in my collection? Because when I search on the decks, most of the decks I own like 2-3% of the cards...

Hi,

love your site thus far. I've been using Magic Assistant for about a year, and I need to switch to a web-based cataloger. Yours looks the best so far for what I need. Just a few questions. I have 3 distinct collections, how can I do that.

Also, when I build a deck, does the system 'subtract' cards in that deck from those available in the collection?
Finally, very important when I view an entire list of a given collection, that is shows how many of a given card are in XXX deck, or not in any deck yet.

Thanks!

I am using deckstats.net for a while as the best site of that kind IMHO. I do keep my inventory updated and I am happy to see whether I do own some cards or not when I see a decklist. So, every feature here is wonderful but... I though that would be nice to have more thing: ability to check which decks can I build using cards in my collection after setting some filters.

What do You think?

EDIT: oh dear... I just submited my post and found: https://deckstats.net/forum/index.php/topic,22661.45.html

Sorry :)

Hi,
Just found this topic and still not sure if I'm supposed to post here or open a new thread.
Some expasions (notably out-of-standard sets like promos, Commander etc.) don't order properly in the collection view.
They all appear before any other standard set, which could be acceptable, but the problem is they're all shuffled together, i.e. a Commander card could appear at position 1, then a Planechase one could be at #2 and another Commander card could be at #3.

They're probably sorted together alphabetically?

By name you mean? Yeah, could be.
Not that it really matters. When you sort by expansion you want your cards sorted by expansion, not by name.

Hi again,
I don't know if this is important, but some expansions are not available when editing Your Collection:
Arena League promos
Player Rewards
Friday Night Magic promos
Worlds Champ decks

I would like ALL cards in my collection. Basic Lands too ... but in each issue there is only one Basic Land (1 plains (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Plains), 1 swamp (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Swamp) ... etc) For example: where are the cards
HOU 191/199
HOU 192/199
HOU 198/199
?

Please add ALL Basic Lands in Database!

Are these multiple printings of the same card. If so, I am working on updating our database to support these right now!

Are these multiple printings of the same card. If so, I am working on updating our database to support these right now!

For example. Elixir of Immortality (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Elixir+of+Immortality) added in DB from all sets. But full-frame Lands of Amonkhet is missing. Where are the cards 250-254 and many more, from this set? These cards cost money, and it’s important for me from which set I add them to the deck.

Choose any set from this page: https://deckstats.net/sets/?lng=en
Everywhere Basic Lands in a single copy! But they have different illustrations! I like added special Basic Lands in my deck, because it is stylish.

Yes, supporting multiple versions of the same card in a set is exactly what I'm working on! So this will hopefully be added soon.
