Title: [Modern] Back at Ya! (Revised)

I am trying to create a deck that has some defense against a player who relies mostly on aggro builds.

The idea is to stay afloat long enough to get a Stuffy Doll (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Stuffy+Doll) Pariah (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Pariah) Shivan Meteor (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Shivan+Meteor) combo thing going. Possibly getting through Quietus Spike (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Quietus+Spike) through using Ride Down (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Ride+Down) or Legion Loyalist (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Legion+Loyalist) to make the job easier.

Battlefield Forge (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Battlefield+Forge) isn't a great pick. I would consider switching to something like Sacred Foundry (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Sacred+Foundry)

Considering the combo you want to use, and the fact that it's to counter aggro, I think you should run something closer to this

Only 2 Path to Exile (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Path+to+Exile), you don't want to speed up an already fast deck. And 4 ofs for your combo.

Thank you so much for all your replies. To answer a few of the questions;

1. Yeah, he runs aggro but does also run a burn deck or two.

2. I like Battlefield Forge (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Battlefield+Forge) for the Stuffy Doll (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Stuffy+Doll) and Pariah (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Pariah) combo. I can get some extra pain in when I start mana burning.

3. I was thinking of leaving off the Path to Exile (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Path+to+Exile) completely. As you said, he already has some pretty fast decks and prides himself on being able to run his hands on two or three lands.

U still get damage in with Sacred Foundry (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Sacred+Foundry), but you can choose, in case you don't have the combo out. And the easiest way to counter burn is life gain.

I like both Approach of the Second Sun (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Approach+of+the+Second+Sun) and the Oketra's Last Mercy (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Oketra%27s+Last+Mercy) suggestion, but possibly as a side board for if I am up against a burn deck. That hasn't been a problem as much as standing against strong aggro decks.

Maybe I could replace Path to Exile (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Path+to+Exile) with Approach of the Second Sun (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Approach+of+the+Second+Sun) for the extra wincon and health boost. However, I get back to the aggro decks out pacing me. Especially token generating decks or zombie decks. Where Path to Exile (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Path+to+Exile) might be giving land, but it is buy me the time I need to fortify (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Fortify) defenses and get my combos put together.

You could run green instead of red. With green you have ramp so they can't outpace you, and you can still splash red for your combo with Weirding Wood (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Weirding+Wood) and Unbridled Growth (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Unbridled+Growth).

Fireball (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Fireball) does the same thing Shivan Meteor (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Shivan+Meteor), but provides an alternate win con, even in multiplayer, if you ramp to high enough amounts of mana.

With Mana Reflection (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Mana+Reflection) that mana shouldn't be hard. The effect stacks. 1 Mana Reflection (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Mana+Reflection) doubles it. 2 doubles it once, then doubles that. And so on

So 4 mana reflection (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Mana+Reflection) changes something that taps for 1 mana into something that taps for 16. Add a truly massive Endless One (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Endless+One) and make it fight Stuffy Doll (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Stuffy+Doll) with Cartouche of Strength (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Cartouche+of+Strength)

Those would be cool combos for a different deck I think. I have a pretty solid base for a R/W deck and don't see myself adding green or changing things that drastically. It just wouldn't even be close to the same deck. Also, Cartouche of Strength (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Cartouche+of+Strength) makes the fight a creature that the opponent controls. This deck doesn't have a large amount of mana ramp, so I think I will stick with Shivan Meteor (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Shivan+Meteor), but if I make a R/G deck, I like that combo.

Oh boy, that is an expensive one. What were you looking to do with it? Build a whole deck around it? Also, what format?

I play Legacy/Vintage. It wasn't that expensive. On tcgplayer just let it optimize ur cart with everything except damaged. Even heavily played is barely distinguishable from lightly played

Here I go, tweaking this deck again. I am finding that the Quietus Spike (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Quietus+Spike) is just not ever getting used. It is a distracting threat, that is for sure, but it isn't doing much beyond that. I am hoping that by adding in Nahiri, The Harbinger (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Nahiri%2C+the+Harbinger) and Ajani Vengeant (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Ajani+Vengeant) I will be able to stabilize the board more and be able to get my Stuffy Doll (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Stuffy+Doll) Shivan Meteor (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Shivan+Meteor) combo out there sooner.

I am also chewing on the idea of mixing up the lands a little bit more, like adding Boros Garrison (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Boros+Garrison). I am also still tempted to reintroduce my Boros Reckoner (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Boros+Reckoner) cards in place of the Battlegate Mimic (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Battlegate+Mimic) or the Legion Loyalist (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Legion+Loyalist). Lastly I am thinking about working in Indestructibility (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Indestructibility) or Valorous Stance (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Valorous+Stance) to help the viability of Pariah (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Pariah)
