Title: [Casual] Freyalise: The Deck
Post by: Philippe Saner on May 09, 2016, 06:37:10 am
Freyalise: The Deck (http://deckstats.net/decks/62795/487948-freyalise-the-deck)

A deck designed to be as Freyalise as possible. Filled to the brim with cards named after Freyalise, featuring Freyalise in their art, and talking about or quoting Freyalise in their flavour text.

It's an elf-based green ramp deck, as befits the goddess worshiped by the Fyndhorn, Skyshroud, and Llanowar Elves (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Llanowar+Elves).

My favourite thing about this deck is the way it uses Ritual of Subdual (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Ritual+of+Subdual). Because it has so much nonland mana, it can keep playing more or less normally while the ritual's up. And Freyalise's +2 ability makes the cumulative upkeep a lot more manageable, especially if there's an Elvish Archdruid (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Elvish+Archdruid) on hand. Ritual of Subdual (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Ritual+of+Subdual) is the kind of card that would never be printed today, and winning with it feels very appropriate for an old-school planeswalker like Freyalise.

My least favorite thing about this deck is the way it uses Regal Force (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Regal+Force) and Woodfall Primus (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Woodfall+Primus). They drive the deck's price up and they're not really connected to Freyalise at all. But I need something to ramp into, and all the replacements I can think of (Gilt-Leaf Archdruid (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Gilt-Leaf+Archdruid), Craterhoof Behemoth (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Craterhoof+Behemoth)) have the same problems.

Playing Arbor Elf (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Arbor+Elf) instead of Llanowar Elves (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Llanowar+Elves) would make the deck stronger, because of Wild Growth (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Wild+Growth) synergy. But it's only a slight improvement and I didn't think it was worth breaking (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Breaking) theme for.

Freyalise's Charm (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Freyalise%27s+Charm) and Freyalise's Radiance (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Freyalise%27s+Radiance) belong in the sideboard. Freyalise's Winds (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Freyalise%27s+Winds) might as well.

Feedback would be appreciated, but please do keep the theme in mind.

Craterhoof Behemoth (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Craterhoof+Behemoth) would be incredible here in place of the other bombs you have
