Title: [Standard] Abzan Midrange Standard before PT in the making
Post by: VayChow on May 07, 2017, 04:08:12 pm
Abzan Midrange Standard before PT in the making (https://deckstats.net/decks/69433/726333-abzan-midrange-standard-before?revision=0)

Why Abzan?
- Average Early game , Strong Mid Game, Super Absurb Late Game
- 3 Gods (normally the win con) can be on the battlefield available : 1 White God, 2 Green God, 1 Black God
- Strong Mini Boss for early game : 3 Heart of Kiran (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Heart+of+Kiran)
- Dusk // Dawn (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Dusk+%2F%2F+Dawn) combo with Grim Flayers, Sylvan Advocate (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Sylvan+Advocate), Walking Balista (anything that is small in graveyard but big in battlefied). Easily come back against early removal pieces like shock (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Shock), fatal push (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Fatal+Push), unlicensed, etc.
- Prepare // Fight (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Prepare+%2F%2F+Fight) - synergy with delirium, lifelink (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Lifelink) option opened.
- Fumigate (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Fumigate) (Standard's Damnation (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Damnation)) available on the Sideboard. Clears almost everything in standards now, Black Green Constrictor, White Red Exert, Zombies, Torrential Gearhulk (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Torrential+Gearhulk), Black Green Delirium, etc.

Ok then I would be glad to assist you in this endeavor. When deck building I always try to give the same advice:  Creature, Spell, then lands. You've already got the deck build so now is the refining process.

Creatures: The thing you need to focus on with your creatures is that they need to have synergy with each other. No matter how strong the individual creatures are their abilities won't matter too much if they limit each other's play abilities.

1 Bontu the Glorified (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Bontu+the+Glorified) -
2 Dread Wanderer (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Dread+Wanderer) -
3 Grim Flayer (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Grim+Flayer) -
4 Oketra the True (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Oketra+the+True) -
5 Rhonas the Indomitable (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Rhonas+the+Indomitable) -
6 Scrapheap Scrounger (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Scrapheap+Scrounger)
7 Sylvan Advocate (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Sylvan+Advocate)
8 Walking Ballista (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Walking+Ballista)

Spells: The spells can surely help to push the deck across the finish line but you need to remember not to become too spell reliant in an abzan deck. The creatures teally should be the core focus of the deck unless you have a special engine you want to run in this deck. That's why the spells should HELP rather than CARRY the deck.

1 Aethersphere Harvester (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Aethersphere+Harvester)
2 Anguished Unmaking (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Anguished+Unmaking)
3 Dusk // Dawn (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Dusk+%2F%2F+Dawn)
4 Fatal Push (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Fatal+Push)
5 Heart of Kiran (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Heart+of+Kiran)
6 Liliana, the Last Hope (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Liliana%2C+the+Last+Hope)
7 Nissa, Voice of Zendikar (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Nissa%2C+Voice+of+Zendikar)
8 Prepare // Fight (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Prepare+%2F%2F+Fight)
9 To the Slaughter (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=To+the+Slaughter)
10 Traverse the Ulvenwald (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Traverse+the+Ulvenwald)

When you get a moment I'm going to ask for your reasoning for each spell and creature in this deck. The reason why I'm doing this is because if I can see your reasoning behind your card choices then I can help give more constructive feedback on the deck. Deck building is my thing but I don't want to strip away the deck's identity or your creativity. Just trying to be fair in the matter. I'll be present when you are ready.

Thank you so much for your support G.Moto , definitely need a pointer here and there. Below are the reasonings behind certain selection.

I was updating the deck list when I saw your reply. Has already changed some of the things after some thinking.

1 Bontu the Glorified (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Bontu+the+Glorified) - Activates Green God, good with walking balista, good with dread wanderer (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Dread+Wanderer), able to crew all vehicles, revolt trigger for fatal push (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Fatal+Push). Early game combo with Rhonas, Late game combo with Oketra.

2 Dread Wanderer (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Dread+Wanderer) - Couldn't find any good 1 drop for this spot. Sacrifice outlet for Bontu. Provide the 5th & 6th spot to return itself to battlefield for Oketra and Bontu. Been thinking vessel of nascency (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Vessel+of+Nascency) here but it seems very slow. Without vessel, delirium still can online most of the time at 4th  - 5th turn.

3 Grim Flayer (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Grim+Flayer) - The core creatures. Gets the deck moving with its pseudo Scry 3. When delirium online, activates rhonas. Always get removed early game but with Dawn, this cards just get better.

4 Oketra the True (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Oketra+the+True) - Easily activated with scrapheap scrounger (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Scrapheap+Scrounger), Dread Wanderer (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Dread+Wanderer), and Vehicles.  4 mana to create a soldier (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Soldier) to chunk block Gideon! Early game can only crew Cultivators Caravan (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Cultivator%27s+Caravan) and Skyship.

5 Rhonas the Indomitable (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Rhonas+the+Indomitable) - Gives Trample when board is stall. Trampling Oketra is devastating.

6 Scrapheap Scrounger (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Scrapheap+Scrounger) - Can return itself to the battlefield, sacrifice fooder for bontu, the 1st - 4th option to return itself to battlefield for oketra, crew every vehicles in the deck.

7 Sylvan Advocate (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Sylvan+Advocate) - Just 1 copy for late game since running 3 creatures-lands. Also, can be brought back by Dawn.

8 Walking Ballista (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Walking+Ballista) - Mana Sink, Synergy with bontu, revolt trigger for fatal push (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Fatal+Push), good for delirium too.

Spells should HELP rather than CARRY the deck (Thumbs up, very good point here).  I suppose abzan is weak against flyer and Gideon, so most of the removal piece is to handle flyers like heart of kiran (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Heart+of+Kiran), bone picker (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Bone+Picker), Avacyn, Glorybringer (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Glorybringer), Angel of Sanctions (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Angel+of+Sanctions), mindwrack demon (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Mindwrack+Demon), etc.

1 Aethersphere Harvester (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Aethersphere+Harvester) - Dropped . Replaced with Cultivator's Caravan (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Cultivator%27s+Caravan) - Activates Green God! Provide Mana Fix for plains (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Plains). Sometimes, getting the 2nd plains (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Plains) on time can proved to be difficult.

2 Anguished Unmaking (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Anguished+Unmaking) - Drop to Side Board. Replaced with Grasp of Darkness (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Grasp+of+Darkness), 5-6th removal.

3 Dusk // Dawn (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Dusk+%2F%2F+Dawn) - 1 copy. Resets the board when things get out of control, e.g. up against B/G Constrictor. Reset (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Reset)'s the game. Dawn brings back Grim Flayers, Sylvan Advocate (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Sylvan+Advocate), Walking Ballista (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Walking+Ballista) for another round of punching. 3 copy on the side board for sweepers against deck like Glorybringer (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Glorybringer), Verdurous Gearhulk (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Verdurous+Gearhulk), etc.

4 Fatal Push (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Fatal+Push) - Against Flyer! All 4 copies. Revolt Trigger: Evolving wilds (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Evolving+Wilds) x2, Walking Ballista (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Walking+Ballista) x 2, Bontu x 1, (still lacking in the trigger revolt department).

5 Heart of Kiran (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Heart+of+Kiran) - The power play (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Power+Play), Kiran into God / into Lili. Putting the pressure early. Keep planeswalker at bay. Activates Spire of Industry (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Spire+of+Industry)

6 Liliana, the Last Hope (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Liliana%2C+the+Last+Hope) - Just 2 copies. Dont want to see it all the time. For delirium. 1 thoughness removal. Just in case God's get killed which happens sometimes.

7 Nissa, Voice of Zendikar (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Nissa%2C+Voice+of+Zendikar) - Drop down to Sideboard. Replace with Sky Ship Sovereign. More firepower. Suprisingly Skyship synergies well with other vehicles and God. e.g. Return scrapheap (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Scrapheap) into battlefield, crew kiran, crew skyship/caravan (either way crew 2 vehicles with 1 scrapheap (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Scrapheap)), immediately activates rhonas, oketra.

8 Prepare // Fight (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Prepare+%2F%2F+Fight) - Premium combat trick. Especially good when use on grim flayers early to punch thru blockers, suprise +4/+4 (with lifelink (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Lifelink) and trample) instead of +2/+2. Also, late game with oketra is huge lifelink (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Lifelink). Fight is good with rhonas death touch. Provide 2 cards type for delirium.

9 To the Slaughter (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=To+the+Slaughter) - down to sideboard. Not a very good removal piece in early game.

10 Traverse the Ulvenwald (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Traverse+the+Ulvenwald) - Increase to 3. Land fix early game, late game to search God out. Rhonas + Bontu + Oketra end game.

11 Gideon's Intervention (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Gideon%27s+Intervention) - This card is nuts. Just 1 copy in Mainboard and 1 copy in Sideboard. Remove almost anything 4 CMC and above that Abzan couldn't handle well. Gideon, Glory (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Glory) Bringer, Verdurous Gearhulk (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Verdurous+Gearhulk), Torrential Gearhulk (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Torrential+Gearhulk), Avacyn, Ulamorg, Atherworks Marvel etc.

12 Skysovereign, Consul Flag Ship - Another win con. Can be crew by God.

I guess I've written all the reason of selection behind all these cards. Haven't got the time to test this out against the big decks like Mardu Vehicle, B/G-Constrictor/Delirium, Control Decks, yet.

Hopefully can get some input before testing out with my friends . Thank you in advance.

For the creatures these are my recommendations for removal (and then I'll add what would be good to include in the deck):

Removal- scrapheap scrounger (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Scrapheap+Scrounger), sylvan advocate (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Sylvan+Advocate) and walking ballista (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Walking+Ballista).

Scrapheap scrounger (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Scrapheap+Scrounger) requires that you remove creatures from your graveyard. In this deck I see that as a minus to you because the creatures in this deck need to remain in the game as integral parts of the overall deck strategy. If you're removing all of your copies of dread wanderer (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Dread+Wanderer) or grim flayer (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Grim+Flayer) then you've lost a good majority of the deck and that's one less defensive blocker that you have on the field.

Sylvan advocate (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Sylvan+Advocate) does not contribute to the deck, it only takes up space and though it's ability is good there are better choices.

Lastly the Walking ballista (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Walking+Ballista) is indeed a mana sink. In this deck you do not want sinks, you want mana circulation. You want to be able to share the mana and the strength amongst your creatures so that they stand firm (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Stand+Firm) and that they stand tall together. If you're paying SIX mana just to drop a 3/3 (who you have to pay 4 more mana just to make it a 4/4) then that creature indeed does not need to be in this deck. It' an easy target and you'll feel depressed when it is dispatched easily with the opponent's removal.

As for recommendations for this deck these are the following that would improve on the overall play of the deck while still fitting in the core strategy:
Doomed Dissenter (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Doomed+Dissenter) - It's a 2 drop that works with your Dawn// Dusk and when it dies (Say if you sacrifice it to Bontu the glorified (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Bontu+the+Glorified)) then it'll come back as a 2/2 which will in essence replace itself.

Gravedigger (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Gravedigger) - is a creature that when it enters the field it will grab you whatever creature that you need. This can be crucial because when you are setting off delirium triggers and you put one too many copies of Oketra in the grave, this neat little zombie will fetch her right back for you.

devoted crop-mate (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Devoted+Crop-Mate) - Exert may not be a core strategy across the deck, but it will bring back a creature from your graveyard that is 2 mana cost or less. That means doomed dissenter (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Doomed+Dissenter), grim flayer (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Grim+Flayer), dread wanderer (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Dread+Wanderer) (without the mana activation), and the other 2 drops I mentioned are all targets.

fan bearer (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Fan+Bearer) - You may be looking down on this guy, but if you combo it with djeru's resolve (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Djeru%27s+Resolve) you can pay 4 mana and tap down 2 of your opponent's creatures. That's the equivalent of decision paralysis (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Decision+Paralysis) but in WHITE. Best part is that you can use this spell on any creature and it UNTAPS.

trueheart duelist (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Trueheart+Duelist) - It's a 2 drop white creature that can block 2 creatures a turn. As long as you keep it strong, keep the toughness from hitting zero and maybe even give it some combat tricks it'll put in the work for you. Best part is that it also has embalm. This means that during your opponent's combat phase you can block two of their creatures, sac it using Bontu the Glorified (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Bontu+the+Glorified), and then on your turn embalm and get it right back. Crazy good stuff when you have creatures that won't stay dead (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Dead).

These were my creature recommendations. I'll respond with the spell recommendations in a moment...

Now it's time for the spell critique:

:) Cultivator's Caravan (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Cultivator%27s+Caravan) - It's great for mana fixing and if you have some spare tokens then it's worth sending into combat. As long as you can keep it steady until you get all the land types you need you're solid.

;D Dusk // Dawn (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Dusk+%2F%2F+Dawn) - You need to have more copies of this card in your deck. It's TOO valuable just to have one copy of it.

:) Fatal Push (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Fatal+Push) - If you can get a death every turn you try to play this card then keep it, it's worth it.

:( Gideon's Intervention (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Gideon%27s+Intervention) - This card should be side boarded and never main decked unless you are certain you know what your opponent is about to play or if you're trying to neutralize a threat. I'd recommend replacing it with Liliana's influence (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Liliana%27s+Influence) because it will drop weights on all your opponent's creatures AND it'll add Liliana straight to your hand if she's in your deck OR grave (which is highly possible if you milled her due to delirium).

:) Grasp of Darkness (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Grasp+of+Darkness) - It's a solid card and I'd recommend keeping it. Even with indestructible creatures, if their toughness drops to zero due to negative values it still kills the target. Something worth holding on to.

Heart of Kiran (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Heart+of+Kiran) - This is a small creature with big stats. But the thing about it is that if you don't have a planeswalker on the field then you have to pay the crew cost anyway. So why not remove this artifact creature in favor of something different? Maybe having primal druid (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Primal+Druid) as sac fodder to get  land (for delirium) would be a better alternative because it has a decent body and it even gives you something when it dies. Also wildfield scarecrow (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Scarecrow) gives you TWO lands into your hand so for a Tri-color deck this can be key to getting your deck online faster. Also its an ARTIFACT and a CREATURE so delirium is already half way triggered.

Liliana, the Last Hope (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Liliana%2C+the+Last+Hope) - Honestly I'd recommend Liliana death wielder (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Liliana%2C+Death+Wielder) because she can inhibit opponent's creatures, she can out right destroy ANYTHING with a -1/-1 counter on it, and she can bring back ALL of your creatures from grave so that's a plus. Now if you want Liliana, the last hope (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Liliana%2C+the+Last+Hope) because of the token production then that's a solid strategy as well, just make sure that you can protect her long enough and are able to produce enough zombies so that the token multiplication can truly take effect.

Prepare // Fight (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Prepare+%2F%2F+Fight) - This i recommend getting more copies of. The fight mechanic would be so devastating in this deck if you add more of these and the cartouche of strength (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Cartouche+of+Strength) because making Rhonas the Indomitable (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Rhonas+the+Indomitable) fight other creatures is basically a kill spell in of itself. It's death touch and indestructible so why not?

Skysovereign, Consul Flagship (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Skysovereign%2C+Consul+Flagship) - This card can be pivotal based off of how many creature tokens you can make and how strong you can get them. Really all you need is at least one token that's a 3/3 and it's taken care of. It doesn't have haste like Glorybringer (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Glorybringer) but it doesn't have to exert to use its ability to deal damage (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Deal+Damage). It's really border line and can be a big target if not protected.

Traverse the Ulvenwald (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Traverse+the+Ulvenwald) - It's a low cost spell that nets you a land or creature straight to your hand. It's basically a diabolic tutor (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Diabolic+Tutor) only in green. This is something worth having.

Also some other recommendations for this deck: Tattered mummy (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Tattered+Mummy) would be an excellent 2 drop to add to this deck. It fits all the requirements for the other spells in this deck, It's easy to play, it can be brought back with devoted crop-mate (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Devoted+Crop-Mate) and Dusk // Dawn (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Dusk+%2F%2F+Dawn), and it will deal two damage as soon as it dies. THAT is VALUE. Also wander in death (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Wander+in+Death), supernatural stamina (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Supernatural+Stamina), stir the sands (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Stir+the+Sands) (since you like mana sinks) can produce the 3 creatures you need for Oketra and serve (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Serve) as sac fodder for Bontu. Cartouche of Strength (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Cartouche+of+Strength) because making big creatures fight is fantastic and Hapatra's mark (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Hapatra%27s+Mark) will be great because the next best thing to INDESTRUCTIBLE is HEXPROOF. So with all of these recommendations what are your thoughts on the deck now?

Really appreciate your time to write out all these stuff. You have left me pondered for sometime and new angle to this deck.

Will definitly try a more synergistic approach as what you have recomended especially with the removal of Kiran, Sylvan Advocate (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Sylvan+Advocate), cutting down on Scrapheap (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Scrapheap), and walking ballista (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Walking+Ballista), replacing it with more synergistic piece to make the whole deck ticks in the right direction.

However, will try to avoid 1-2 white drop as it will clash very often with Black-Green drops. This deck is built with progression from early Green-Black into later White.

Kind of really like Dusk // Dawn (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Dusk+%2F%2F+Dawn) too and feels it really worth at least 2 pieces in the main deck. Definitely will try running it 3 pieces.

What about this card Start // Finish (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Start+%2F%2F+Finish) in this deck? I am thinking of 4 copies of this as it is good with almost everything in this deck. Good piece for delirium and also can crew Aetherspehere Harvester. Provide another sac outlet. Trigger revolt. Late removal.

Keep in mind with Start // Finish (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Start+%2F%2F+Finish), if you make those tokens then they need to be put to good use. For example, you could have the creature sacrificed be tattered mummy (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Tattered+Mummy), destroy target creature your opponent controls, then use your devoted crop-mate (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Devoted+Crop-Mate) to bring it back from the grave. That or simply play Supernatural stamina (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Supernatural+Stamina) on it before it dies and get a double trigger on killing it twice once you have Bontu the glorified (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Bontu+the+Glorified) on the field. Can you say double the pain for a single creature? But as strong as this card may be, all good things in moderation my friend, if you're going to have a versatile spell, you need it to be flexible enough so that it doesn't slow down the deck. Snakes are not feared because they STOMP through the jungle, they are feared because they slither unseen, unnoticed and unaware before they strike. Which reminds me......Hapatra, vizier of poisons (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Hapatra%2C+Vizier+of+Poisons). What do you think of her?

Hepatra is a great piece on its own and in the correct deck can be stupidly awesome. Maybe in a Jund deck, like having a solid 1-drop Soul Scar Mage (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Soul-Scar+Mage), Backup with Burn Removal like shock (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Shock), harness lightning, Blazing volley (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Blazing+Volley), Radiant Flame / Sweltering Suns (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Sweltering+Suns) (Works real well as it only places counter on enemy line and not your own, Grim Flayer (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Grim+Flayer) 4/4 can survive without getting hit by the-1/-1 counter from Soul Scar Mage (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Soul-Scar+Mage)). Creating snake for each burn . at the same time creating token sac outlet for bontu?! Walking Balista + Soul Scar (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Scar) + Hepatra too? Abit too good to be true.

But maybe just not good enough for abzan to squeeze (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Squeeze) all out of it.

-1 (SB) To the Slaughter (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=To+the+Slaughter)

Added in 8 Ramp cards : 3 Catacomb Sifter (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Catacomb+Sifter), 1 caravan, 4 servant of conduit.
Early to ramp out any of Mini Boss and Boss : 1 Rhonas, 1 Bontu, 1 Kalitas, 1 Oketra, 1 Hazoret, 2 Verdurous Gearhulk (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Verdurous+Gearhulk).

Catacomb Sifter (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Catacomb+Sifter): Provide synergy for Oketra and Bontu, Scrying option.
Remove Grasp of Darkness (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Grasp+of+Darkness): Replaced with more Prepare // Fight (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Prepare+%2F%2F+Fight).
Added in Kalitas : Although it get killed by Dusk, but will still leave behind whole bunch of zombies which is actually sweet. Considering also the exile (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Exile) effect that will take care of creatures such as scrapheap (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Scrapheap), prized amalgam (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Prized+Amalgam), and embalm creatures.
Added in Ishkanah : Just late game blockers and mana sink and provide synergy for Oketra and Bontu.
Added in Verdurous Gearhulk (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Verdurous+Gearhulk) : Early Bomb, by putting counters creatures early to Activate Rhonas, putting counter on Hazoret will push it out of Grasp of Darkness (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Grasp+of+Darkness) range, but a bit of out synergy as it doesn't help bontu in any way.
Removed Heart of Kiran (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Heart+of+Kiran) totally: Not very good in a ramp deck, need a 1 drop that can crew it to properyly squeeze (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Squeeze) all the value.
Scrapheap Scrounger (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Scrapheap+Scrounger): Remains at 3 pieces, to get spire industry online, provide crew for Caravan.
Servant of Conduit : Been thinking about Channeller Inniatiate, but still choose ouver Servant of Conduit, the energy is important to re charge aether hub (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Aether+Hub), out of dusk range // can be brought back by Dawn, can be exiled by scrapheap (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Scrapheap) late game as servant is kind of useless once all the mana land is available.

Why only 4 pieces removal instead of conventional 7 pieces removal? Because in this deck, we will be the one in the driver seat. We dictates the game flow and bring the game to the oppenent. They are the one going to play accordingly to what we play. Also, Prepare // Fight (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Prepare+%2F%2F+Fight) is like a late removal so this deck is kind of still running on 7 pieces removal on late game.

So playing this deck the way it is, have you found that you feel comfortable playing it? Or do you feel as though there is more you can do to it?

Still feels something is lacking in the flow of the deck and definitely there is more to do with this.

Belows are the things will do to make the deck more fluid.

2 copies of Dusk and Dawn down to 1 copies : - Drawing this early is not too great but still ok keeping it in hand for ermengency back up. However, drawing another 2nd copy early can be castastrophic.
Replaced by 1 piece of Aethersphere harvester (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Aethersphere+Harvester) : Increasing Artifacts count for Spire Industry and re-charge energy for Aether Hub (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Aether+Hub) as well. Increase mana consistentcy. Eldrazi Scion (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Eldrazi+Scion) from Catacomb Sifter (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Catacomb+Sifter) can crew this.

3 copies of Scrapheap (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Scrapheap) : Not feeling great with this selection. But couldn't find any better 2-drop that is artifact based. Perhaps reducing down to 2 copy and replacing it with 1 Heart of Kiran (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Heart+of+Kiran).

1 Ishkanah removed : Doesn't feel great to draw it early and casting it on 4th turn without the spiders. Will be replacing this with Angel of Invention (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Angel+of+Invention).
Angel of Invention (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Angel+of+Invention): Drop early create wide Board presence to activates Oketra, and Bontu. The +1/+1 ability synergise really well with other creatures to activate Rhonas, crew Kiran.

Below are the things that need to check agaisnt Meta Deck
a) Unchecked : Agaisnt Marvel Ulamorg - 2 Gideon's Intervention (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Gideon%27s+Intervention). Still lacking 3 more cards
b) Unchecked : Against Mardu Vehicle - 2 Mangle Horn.  Nothing against Gideon. Racing (on the draw) against Mardu  is not a great way of wining.
c) Checked Against Black Green Constrictor / Delirium - Basically, this is a mirror of Black Green with better curve and better utility support.
d) Checked Agaisnt Most of the Control decks : Control decks need to have answer for our big 4th turn and 5th turn play. Auto-win when we can resolved Dawn late game which generate a lot of card advantage.
c) Checked. Agaisnt Human (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Human) / Zombies / Winnie rush Decks - Side Board 3 Fumigate (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Fumigate) should nail them.
d) Unchecked : Against Combo decks that win on 6th turn : e.g. Paradox engine (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Paradox+Engine). 2 gideon's Intervention (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Gideon%27s+Intervention) somehow not enough.

Above are my thoughts of this deck at the moment, if any one has any suggestion , feel free to write it out

+1 Woodland Wanderer (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Woodland+Wanderer)

+3 (SB) Yahenni's Expertise (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Yahenni%27s+Expertise)

Changed amounts:
+1 (Main) -1 (SB) Angel of Invention (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Angel+of+Invention)
-1 Catacomb Sifter (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Catacomb+Sifter)
-1 Evolving Wilds (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Evolving+Wilds)
+1 (Main) -1 (SB) Gonti, Lord of Luxury (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Gonti%2C+Lord+of+Luxury)
-1 (Main) +1 (SB) Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Kalitas%2C+Traitor+of+Ghet)
+1 Liliana, the Last Hope (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Liliana%2C+the+Last+Hope)
-1 Prepare // Fight (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Prepare+%2F%2F+Fight)
-1 Scrapheap Scrounger (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Scrapheap+Scrounger)
-2 Servant of the Conduit (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Servant+of+the+Conduit)
-1 Verdurous Gearhulk (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Verdurous+Gearhulk)
-1 (SB) Manglehorn (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Manglehorn)
+1 (SB) To the Slaughter (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=To+the+Slaughter)

Tested on FNM, successfully won and found out a little tweak.

Shifting from ramp into Vehicle Archtype. Ramp can be very good sometimes, but inconsistent. Sometimes, just very bad when luck is not on your side. Vehicle archtype provides more consistentcy and early game control towards planeswalker.

Servant of Conduit down to 2 : Early is very good, mid game to recharge Aether Hub (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Aether+Hub) and provide 2nd plain mana type to cast Dusk, Angel (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Angel) Invention, etc. Late game is practically no use except to crew vehicle and as a food for scrapheap scrounger (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Scrapheap+Scrounger).
Catacomb Sifter (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Catacomb+Sifter) down to 2 : Synergy well around the deck, but drawing the 3rd copy is not good overall.
Added Aether Sphere Harvester : Recharge Aether Hub (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Aether+Hub), Vehicle for unactivated god to crew. Basically, this deck is more like a vehicle deck, running on 2 Kiran, 1 Caravan, 1 AetherSphere and 1 Sky Ship. In early game, dropping a God to crew Vehicle seems fair enough.
Kefnet replacing Hazoret: Drawing Hazoret early can be irratating because most of the time, we are only able to clear out our hand on 6th turn onwards. Most of the time we will be keeping Instant speed card and answer card like Dusk  for proper timing. Prefer to have Kefnet on play for draw card ability and crew vehicle instead.
WoodLand Wanderer (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Woodland+Wanderer): Another Synergy piece with Dusk.
Yaheenni Expertise Replacing Fumigate (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Fumigate) in Sideboard: Need faster and on curve answer against Zombies deck, Rush decks.

a) Unchecked: Against Marvel Ulamorg only 2 Gideon's Intervention (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Gideon%27s+Intervention). Perhaps the hardest amongst all. Just hope for the best.
b) CHECKED : Against Mardu Vehicle. Why? Having 4 Gods are better than having 4 Gideons in a deck. 6/6 Woodland Wanderer (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Woodland+Wanderer) CHECKS Gideon big time. AetherSphere Harvester (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Aethersphere+Harvester) Checks Kiran. Prepare // Fight (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Prepare+%2F%2F+Fight) is too good against Mardu in Racing.

IT seems that you've made many improvements to this deck and I am proud of you for the progress that you are making. In both appearance and play ability do you feel that this deck is more centered around Amonkhet or Kaladesh? The reason I ask is because obviously every set has its own mechanics and synergies. So knowing where your deck sits will help the base foundation of the deck. That way when you add new cards to the deck and side board it does not throw off the harmony of your deck.

Thank you for all the supports and opinion. Couldn't be able to brew this deck without you.

In appearance it feels like a mix of a little bit from every block to make the decks ticks right. We want to have early game presence and this is provided by the Vehicles. But it wouldn't be possible if there is nothing to crew it. Liliana, Nissa, and God from other blocks provide really solid crew to do this. Then, moving into Mid Game and Late Game, this deck will get crushed by decks that focus on ramping (e.g BG Constrictor) and focus on Width Strategy (e.g Zombies), Dusk from Amonkhet provides answer to this problem. Previusly, there is a Fumigate (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Fumigate) but Fumigate (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Fumigate) sweep everything including our own creature which doesn't give us any advantage. So, in the Midgame now, we can maintain our board presence by have our Grim Flayers (EM block), Vehicle (Khaladesh) and Gods (Amonkhet) on board , at the same time sweeping the board with Dusk (Amonkhet). This couldn't be done before Amonkhet.

Then coming to Combo decks, like AetherWorks and Newsperspective or any other decks that doesn't win by beat down. Abzan has the answer (check out the sideboard for this). Ever wonder (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Wonder) why Abzan able to survive in modern with all the combo decks around, because Abzan has the ability to attack hand before the combo kicks off. So, in standard we are able to do that withlower mana curve piece (Transgress The Mind (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Transgress+the+Mind)) against normally 4 CMC and higher combo piece (Aetherworks Marvel (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Aetherworks+Marvel) and New Perspective). Therefore, in standard, Abzan can still manage combo decks really well (with those low curve hand attacks piece) even without counterspell (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Counterspell) that is only opened to blue.

Abzan is not really strong before Amonkhet but with all the pieces coming together from Amonkhet, Abzan can finally be a well-balance-rounded deck that can answer many things like how it is supposed to be in the Modern Abzan.

  Personally I feel that abzan has always been a strong color combo even before the amonkhet block was introduced. It just depends on the deck build and the consistency of your hands and power plays. For example;
Zendikar Kor/ Ally Abzan deck.  cards such as retreat to emeria (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Retreat+to+Emeria), unified front (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Unified+Front), kalastria healer (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Kalastria+Healer), bloodbond vampire (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Bloodbond+Vampire), and perhaps even swell of growth (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Swell+of+Growth) would all be good cards to go in combo in a deck such as this. In this sort of deck you'd have a token engine but you'd also have life gain as a means of keeping you alive (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Alive) AND powering up your creatures in the process . It just all depends on the deck build and the overall focus during game play.

Deck Speed: Good
Deck Power: Good
Deck Versatility: Good

Abzan Standard MidRange, (DUPLICATE VERSION OF MODERN ABZAN?!)
This is the final version of Abzan that I personally have a lot of success in my local FNM's and Events and very satisfied at where it is now.
- Fast deck speed, aiming for 3rd or 4th turn delirium, 95% 5th turn Ishkanah drop with delirium!
- Well-balanced deck, win rate against Aetherworks Marvel (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Aetherworks+Marvel), 50%-50% and 70% post side-board.
- Can answer a lot of thing in the current format.

How to activate God?
- Rhonas : Grim Flayer (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Grim+Flayer) Delirium on turn 3 earliest, Bontu, Gideon.
- Oketra : Start tokens, Nissa Plant (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Plant) Token, Gideon's token, Ishkanah token.
- Bontu : Sacrifice Tokens, Walking Ballista (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Walking+Ballista), Finish.

Against Mardu Vehicle:
Key card: Ishakanah, resolving a turn 5 delirium spider always guarantee board stability.

Against Aetherworks Marvel (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Aetherworks+Marvel):
Key Card: 3 transgress & 3 Disposses. Resolving a turn 3 disposses on Aetherworks marvel (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Aetherworks+Marvel) will always make oppenent to scope most of the time.

Against Control Decks:
Key Card: 4 Glint Sleeve Siphoner (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Glint-Sleeve+Siphoner). Draw the cards and swarm the board.

Agaisnt rest of the deck: 3 Cast out (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Cast+Out) (1st cast out (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Cast+Out) is always cycling for delirium purpose), 3 fatal push (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Fatal+Push), 4 finish, 1 to the slaughter (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=To+the+Slaughter), Totaling at 11 removal pieces. 2 Dusk sweeper. Will take care most of the creature in the standard's format.

Ok so here's a new question for you..how do you think that this deck will perform against mono-black zombies?
Title: Re: [Standard] Abzan Midrange Standard before PT in the making
Post by: VayChow on May 27, 2017, 11:36:35 am
I say this deck will have a very good chance of beating mono zombie decks on 1st game because we are running 2 dusk on main board, and we have a lot of tokens to slow things down buying more time to search for answer using grim flayers, traverse and glint sleeve siphoner (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Glint-Sleeve+Siphoner). We can also just trade creatures early and later bring back with dusk. But then, the key is still with the sweepers, if we can't draw it out on time to sweep the boards, we will just lose out to the zombies built up eventually.

I found quite a number of successes by running 5 sweepers when up against Zombies and other Agro decks like Red-White Human (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Human), Naya (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Naya) Exert, etc. So this is what I normally do Post Board:

1) Out: Oketra , In: Dusk//Dawn
2) Out: Glint Sleeve Siphoner (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Glint-Sleeve+Siphoner) (x2), In: Fumigate (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Fumigate) (x2)
3) Out: Glint Sleeve Siphoner (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Glint-Sleeve+Siphoner) (x2) , In: Trangress the mind (x2)
4) Out: Gonti, Lord of Luxury (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Gonti%2C+Lord+of+Luxury) (x1), In: Kalitas (x1)

Glint (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Glint) Sleeve will have to go because most of the time oppenent will bring in like 2-3 copies of Liliana, The Last Hope (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Liliana%2C+the+Last+Hope) to get these guys.

Let me know what do you think and how to improve on this.
Title: Re: [Standard] Abzan Midrange Standard before PT in the making
Post by: G. Moto on May 28, 2017, 06:43:15 am
I think that the big thing about Abzan is its ability to build up its defenses and increase the longevity of the player. If you can create your wall (whether its rapidly growing armies or ever increasing health), then you'll have a solid defense. To accompany this you'll need a way to ensure the safety of your creatures who will be initiating the majority of your offensive plays. Maybe introducing the cartouche of strength (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Cartouche+of+Strength) will allow for some spot removal as well as the cartouche of ambition (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Cartouche+of+Ambition). They are both 3-drops and they can serve (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Serve) a great purpose for your deck in the long run. What do you think?

Added/removed cards:

+2 Catacomb Sifter (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Catacomb+Sifter)

Changed amounts:

Certainly cartouches are very good, but I try not to mess around it in this deck. To run cartouches, we need to have trial (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Trial). While cartouches and trial (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Trial) are pretty awesome, it still not enough, we need to have a theme to complete it. Hereby, I present a deck that I have been working on around cartouches and trial (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Trial) with Kefnet and Rhonas as the main theme.

Bant (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Bant) Trial (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Trial) Gods

Abzan Delirium Midrange Standard (https://deckstats.net/decks/69433/726333-abzan-delirium-midrange-standa?revision=14)

Result on this deck recently on my LGS Standard Showdown-Runner-Up:
1st Round: Agaisnt Mono Black Zombies: Won 2-1
Mulligan Hand: 2 times. Post Board 4 Dusks nail this.

2nd Round: Against Black-Green Energy: Won 2-1
Mulligan Hand 4 times. Post Board 4 Dusks also nail this.

3rd Round: Against Unknown: Draw 1-1
After a total of 6 times mulligan in 6 matches, decided just to draw for the day.

Knowing which card to sideboard in and out. Even when luck is not really kind (mull down to 5 in one of the rounds), but by having 4 dusk hard counter in the deck gives a chance to fight back.

After Atherworks went out of the format, it seems quite popular people now gearing more towards BG, Zombies, or big fatty dudes deck.

Next update will be tweaking the main 60 more towards handling creatures and Sideboard 15 against control.

Pros:
- Very high chance against control decks.
- Very well balanced deck against meta decks.

Cons:
- Weakness (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Weakness) against mono white humans. Thankfully, white human (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Human) is not a thing currently.
- Weakness (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Weakness) against blue-white monuments.
- Stumble against classic mardu vehicles. Post Sideboard is alright though.

Manage 3 out of 5 Atherhub with this deck at my LGS past months while brewing this deck.

Interesting. It looks like I'm seeing some life gain in this deck as well. You think that Life gain should serve (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Serve) as a back up plan rather than a main battle strategy?

The lifegain is to balance (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Balance) up the life loses from painful truth. It is part of the main strategy but not the core. The core is still hitting delirium as fast as possible and then jammed out delirium payoff cards to close the game. I have considered running 5 pieces of lifegain solely, but this won't allow me to consistently hit my sweeper card dusk. Same goes with sweeper. Running 4 dusk seems too overplayed. 3 Painful Truth running together 2 pieces of lifegain (Aetherspehere Harvester, and Black Gearhulk) can almost guarantee to hit these 2 cards in 80% of the matches played. Therefore, a combination of 3 painful truth, 2 lifegain and 2 sweeper are more well balanced.

Prepare//Fight and Kalitas serve (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Serve) as the 3rd and 4th lifegain against some really fast aggro and burn deck.

Black Gearhulk is preferred over Prepare//Fight because of the synergy with Traverse and Lili. Black Gearhulk is guaranteed to make a play when it goes into 8th turn. This also served as the boss card for this deck and replaces SovereignSky Ship or Ob Nixilis. Long time ago, this spot was always reserved for Emrakul, The Promised End (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Emrakul%2C+the+Promised+End) but she got banned. In hour of devastation (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Hour+of+Devastation), will be looking at some possible cards for this spot.

So do you want to go wide with this deck or do you want to focus strong hits with a few creatures....or one alpha strike?

Focus strong hit with few creatures.

Then i'd recommend the ol' Abzan way by creatures that have the ability to buff each other's stats up, +1/+1 counters and combat tricks that will help your particular creatures survive in and out of combat. Also evasion spells such as vizier of deferment (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Vizier+of+Deferment) who can flicker (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Flicker) a creature (which can also save one of yours if it's targeted for removal).

Will test it out sometimes. If found to be effective, then will post a new deck.

I'm seeing some legendary action going on here. So how do you feel about the deck, do you think that it's starting to take a new direction?

Been testing some of the new cards.

Ramunap excavator (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Ramunap+Excavator) - I thought this could be a thing in this deck but after testing out, doesn't seems to fit well in a delirium theme.
Resilient Khenra (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Resilient+Khenra) - Fits really well into this deck, but playing 2 copies or more makes starting hand weak when in the starting 7. So, just 1 piece mainboard.
Saving Grace (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Saving+Grace) - Really good uncommon. Probably deserve a slot or 2 in the main board. Too many hour of devastation (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Hour+of+Devastation) running around these days.
Doomfall (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Doomfall) - Great. Just a Great card.

The deck feels faster up a notch now. Cast out (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Cast+Out) seems to be a great answer to the Gods from this set. The part which makes me sad is there is no god from this set that can be added into this deck.

You could always add the artifact that's a 3-drop, gives you any color you want and splash some colors in if you REALLY want the Blue or the Red.

This abzan deck will be stopped from getting any update until further notice. The paper of this deck has been dismantled.

Reasons:
1) Don't have any exciting cards from hour of devastation (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Hour+of+Devastation) that can be added into this Abzan Delirium. This reason alone really demotivated me from going on to brew this deck.
2) While this deck is capable of handling Ramunap-Red quite comfortably, but the end game really sucks at the moment. No Gods from HoD can be added into this deck. Really miss the time when this deck can traverse into Emrakul and bang!
3) Always lose to The Scarab God (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=The+Scarab+God) in my testing. When we can't win them, we join them.=D

This deck has been transformed into a Cycling Delirium deck. Check out the Sultai Cyc-Lirium deck.
