Title: [Casual] Schrodinger's Cats
Post by: HowlingLotus on June 30, 2017, 04:50:49 am
https://deckstats.net/decks/81091/760991-schrodinger-s-cats- (https://deckstats.net/decks/81091/760991-schrodinger-s-cats-)

Looking for any advice to improve. The deck itself is meant more for fun and to be played in a casual manner.

Below is what I have included in the deck description to explain a few of my choices:
Gate To The Afterlife (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Gate+to+the+Afterlife): Gain Life from creatures dying and fish for a Gift when the time is right. It also allows me to discard some Embalm/Eternalize cards to fill graveyard.
God-Pharaoh's Gift (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=God-Pharaoh%27s+Gift): Bring back any creature in a new 4/4 body (and multiple copies if synergy cards are in play).
Mirage Mirror (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Mirage+Mirror): Target a Regal Caracal (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Regal+Caracal) for an extra buff or Anointed Procession (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Anointed+Procession)/Parallel Lives (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Parallel+Lives) to pump out tokens for example.
Mimic Vat (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Mimic+Vat): Create tokens that can trigger ETB effects (unlike Mirage Mirror (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Mirage+Mirror)). Said tokens receive haste (and multiple copies if synergy cards are in play)!
Lifecrafter's Bestiary (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Lifecrafter%27s+Bestiary): Might be considered an odd choice, but by recycling creatures I would prefer the scry + card draw this offers.

This looks pretty cool. I am also screwing around with doubling cat tokens; I like the path you took, cool synergy.

Lifecrafter's Bestiary (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Lifecrafter%27s+Bestiary) is dope. So worth the scry if you can get it to stick around. I had to look up luminescent rain (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Luminescent+Rain), bith that and collective effort (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Collective+Effort) are spot on for this deck.

Is this something you just threw together,  or have you played it? I'd be interested in the results.

Haven't had a chance to play it yet as I made it earlier when I posted. A fair amount of the base was from a Life Gain Cat deck I threw together previously (that way I can swap between them on the fly). I do like this one better as the other was 70 cards and has a lot going on.

I suppose I could print proxies of the new cards to give it a test run ahead of the release (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Release) date. I'm also waiting to see the entire set get spoiled in case there are some other graveyard tool or more cats.

*EDIT*
I think the next step would be trying to fit in Trample somehow if I have trouble winning in the test games.

There is already a combo available in that Mimic Vat (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Mimic+Vat) should copy Pride Sovereign (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Pride+Sovereign) (and giving it haste). Combine that with Anointed Procession (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Anointed+Procession), Parallel Lives (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Parallel+Lives), and Mirage Mirror (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Mirage+Mirror) and there could be numerous beefy Pride Sovereign (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Pride+Sovereign)'s with haste. The only issue is if they have more blockers, but I imagine you would clear their board (and hopefully have Lifelink (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Lifelink) on each from a Regal Caracal (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Regal+Caracal)). Maybe Trample won't be needed - I'll have to see.

You dont know if the are dead (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=pt&card=Dead) or alive (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=pt&card=Alive)... I love it!!!

DO you like the way the deck is now or would you consider adding Red or Black to the mix?

I thought about it, but I want to try and keep it two colours only if I can.

Now that the full set is out it appears, unless I'm blind (I am basically), that only one new cat was announced today. I would like to fit in Feral Prowler as it's a draw engine in addition to being an extra body. I don't know it I would run a play set, but maybe try and fit 2-3 in later when I'm home.

Hard to argue with a 2 mana 1/3 with card draw that I can re-animate from my graveyard.

*EDIT*
One synergy I forgot to mention was that sometimes holding onto a Gate To The Afterlife (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Gate+to+the+Afterlife) isn't a bad idea. If I can play a God-Pharaoh's Gift (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=God-Pharaoh%27s+Gift) on turn 7 or 8 from land drops I can save a Gate To the Afterlife (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Gate+to+the+Afterlife) to possibly retrieve Gift from my graveyard if it gets blown up.

Worse comes to worse I can just fall back onto the token production from the higher CMC Cats and trying to cheat out multiple Embalmed/Eternalized Cats.

An undead liter of cats does sound some what tiresome to have to deal with in combat. But you know, the black cards that we have such as supernatural stamina (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Supernatural+Stamina) you can bring a cat back straight to the battlefield if it dies before your say so. Also with some of the red cards that came out you now have ways of giving your cats first strike. Something to consider....... But the feral prowler is definitely worth adding multiples of. Maybe 3 at the max unless you plan on giving them +1/+1 counters.

I'm honestly not against having multiple decks with a similar theme/tribe (I already have a few Servo decks and now 2 Cat Decks with slightly different themes), so I might consider making a cat deck with other colours. I did kind of have numerous sighs reading the remaining spoilers earlier as non-White and non-Green cards saw some nice buffs and tricks.

Feral Prowler might actually be hard for me to kill off if I have a Metallic Mimic (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Metallic+Mimic) or two on the field and/or a Regal Caracal (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Regal+Caracal), etc. I could keep it in reserve to block a larger creature I suppose.

Revision 2 (https://deckstats.net/decks/81091/760991-schrodinger-s-cats-?revision=1)

Added/removed cards:
+2 Feral Prowler

Changed amounts:
-1 Collective Effort (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Collective+Effort)
-1 Mirage Mirror (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Mirage+Mirror)

I figured that I'll try 2 copies at first based on my previous post in that they might have trouble dying to get the draw. I removed a Collective Effort (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Collective+Effort) as it's one less thing to buff Prowler and I think -1 Mirror is okay as there are still the other artifacts/enchantments for re-animating and increased tokens.

That sounds like a good idea. Start small and then work your deck as you need to later.

If the leak of Feline Ferocity (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Ferocity) for Commander is true I think Arahbo, the 'main' commander, would fit into this deck. Not sure what additional new cats might appear in there, but Arahbo's buff ability and trample ability could solve some of my concerns of my current deck list getting chump blocked over and over.

Speculation until we see an official announcement, but it has me excited. The chance to re-animate and have multiple Pride Sovereign (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Pride+Sovereign) on the board and then double their power and give trample seems deadly.

It sound like too many cats and not enough milk.

I want to make some custom kitten tokens to use as my play group does play casual after all.

Release (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Release) the kittens!!!

*Edit*
It's a shame that Arahbo is Legendary... could have done some nasty things with Mirage Mirror (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Mirage+Mirror) otherwise.

Well when in doubt whip another cat out! Use that mirror on other cats and get triggers for days :)

@ Moto
Also if u search Jackal and go to the last page there's one called Resilient Khenra (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Resilient+Khenra) and another called Reshaper Khenra (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Reshaper+Khenra).. there's some rly wonky stuff going on with those two...

Why is Feral Prowler (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Feral+Prowler) listed as other

It's been like that since I originally added them :-\ . Maybe once the set releases it will work properly they are in the same section in the deck editor as the other cards.

*Edit*
Ah! I see why I think! Look at the type line - it's 'Creatuer' instead of 'Creature'. I reported it to the Database thread to hopefully solve it. Was driving me crazy that I couldn't get it to show with the other creatures.

@ Soren841, I see what you mean, I just checked the entire set and reshaper Khenra (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Reshaper+Khenra) doesn't exist. Earthshaker Khenra (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Earthshaker+Khenra) does but that's the closest thing to it. I'll have to contact the database to get that straightened out.

Made some last minute changes before play testing this weekend.

> Swapped in 4 Fortified Village (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Fortified+Village) and removed the 4 Blossoming Sands (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Blossoming+Sands).
> I added a White Sun's Zenith (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=White+Sun%27s+Zenith) for value in that it can be played numerous times unless exiled, but also to help create larger Pride Sovereign (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Pride+Sovereign)'s.
> I added one copy of Ajani, Caller Of The Pride (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Ajani%2C+Caller+of+the+Pride). It's pretty obvious that I want him to -8 for kitten explosion, but his +1 is useful in that it can help buff weaker creatures such as the pre-Embalm/Eternalize creatures. The -3 ability isn't anything to ignore either if I can give a Pride Sovereign (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Pride+Sovereign) Double Strike and Flying to take someone out.

These are going to be some dangerous (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Dangerous) cats.

While not getting the results I had hoped for, I did have a good time playing the deck in 3 matches today (all of which were 6 player free-for-alls).

I did manage to pop Ajani, Caller Of The Pride (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Ajani%2C+Caller+of+the+Pride) while a Parallel Lives (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Parallel+Lives) was out to make 52 2/2 Cats (3/3 and Life Link from Regal Caracal (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Regal+Caracal) anthem). I was also able to drop a Luminescent Rain (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Luminescent+Rain) for 118 Life after reaching a peak of 59 Cats on the field. Just kept running into too many board wipes and removal of my enchantments/artifacts, but the potential is there. Not sure if I'll make any more tweaks until I see the full Feline Ferocity (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Ferocity) list.

Just as an idea for you, I see that there are some cards in this deck that do exiling. But removing cards from your graveyard would limit the actual cards that you have to play with in this deck. Exiling your resources and then having all of those tokens wiped is asking for a bad match up. As an alternative would you consider adding Black to this deck?

Here's an example of a cat deck that I was working on that's still being shaped up:
https://deckstats.net/decks/24826/764735-my-cats-are-black

The reason why I added the black was due to the fact that I don't like to exile (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Exile) my strongest cards and be left without those resources. When you throw away a pride sovereign (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Pride+Sovereign) for a 4/4 token it essentially becomes a glass cannon. However, even if the enemy kills your cats they will all have their 9 lives due to the supernatural stamina (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Supernatural+Stamina), the wander in death (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Wander+in+Death) and without weakness (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Without+Weakness). My own deck list has things that it can be improved on but this was just a rough (http://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Rough) draft that I came up with a while back. You are free to revise, edit or tailor your deck as you please. Let me know what you think about this.
