Title: Paying a decent cost to remove ads and support the site

I would like to remove the ads on the site, while supporting the devs for the work they do (and the cost of the server, etc.)!

Also, I don't know how much $ would be equivalent to the revenues currently gained via ads.

Is there any way to do that now, or something that may become implemented ?

I have been looking into setting up a Patreon (or something similar) but there are still a few technical and bureaucratic issues to sort out. I'm hoping to have an update on this in the next few weeks.

Until then, please just support the site by spreading the word! :)

I will make a proper announcement about this soon, but if you already want to give it a try please go ahead! :) You are free to contribute as little or as much as you want, although I believe if the amount is below $5 a large chunk of the payment will get eaten up by processing fees.

But on the other hand, the one single small banner is not that disturbing (best proof is that I had to go search for the banner after seeing the disable option. I didn't realize it at all ::)). So, if it costs money in the end it is absolutely to be enabled!

Updating, upgrading and maintaining this site takes quite some time and efford and it deserves at least some compensation from users. So I hope others will follow and support you the way they can. ;D

If you are willing to answer this question, how expensive is the pure maintaining of the site?

Post by: Nils on March 14, 2021, 06:32:12 pm: It's hard to say - in some sense the major "cost" is not actually the money for servers etc but the amount of time I need to spend on fixing bugs, adding new features, etc. If we could raise enough money to hire someone to help me with that that would be amazing, but that's probably quite an ambitious goal. Software developers ain't cheap :)
