Title: theorycrafting 5-color all bombs
Post by: krichaiushii on March 25, 2021, 01:00:34 am
I had a thought, and all things considered, it has likely already been had by others, so if someone has a link, I won't complain.

The idea is a 5-color deck, Commander independent, full of bombs and the means to play them (ramp and draw).

One potential snag (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Snag) my defining 'bomb' as 'a card that either wins immediately or puts someone so far ahead, they shouldn't lose.'  Every time the card is played, independent of any other card in play, so no combos or super-awesome synergy.

Magic being Magic, this pushes bombs towards the high-cmc end of spectrum, which is the other major hole with my theory.

A third, lesser issue, would be which five-color commander to pick.

Is this doable? Has this been done? What would be the 'must-have' bombs?

Comments welcome.

Thank you,

I hate to be that guy, but you just described a battle cruiser Jodah, Archmage Eternal (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Jodah%2C+Archmage+Eternal) deck. Just play Jodah (with Fist of Suns (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Fist+of+Suns) on backup) and drop bombs every turn for WUBRG. Not a particularly strong or consistent strategy, but it definitely exists.

Or, you know... Golos, Tireless Pilgrim (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Golos%2C+Tireless+Pilgrim) *shudders*

Or, you know... Golos, Tireless Pilgrim (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Golos%2C+Tireless+Pilgrim) *shudders*

Basically this.

Golos can be abused. Simply having Kurkesh, Onakke Ancient (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Kurkesh%2C+Onakke+Ancient) on the field with Golos allows for a ridiculous number of activations.

As for what bombs - one sided boarded wipes would be helpful; there are probably better examples but Cyclonic Rift (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Cyclonic+Rift) and In Garruk's wake (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=In+Garruk%27s+Wake) come to mind.

Extra turn spells, though people may hate you.

Steal effects like Blatant Thievery (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Blatant+Thievery).

Also stuff like Swarm Intelligence (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Swarm+Intelligence) would be helpful.

Then Progenitus (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Progenitus) is the ultimate bomb in the CZ if you want to keep it a bomb tribal deck. But I think either Jodah or Golos are better alternatives.

Excellent!

This is why I ask such questions.  Golos, Tireless Pilgrim (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Golos%2C+Tireless+Pilgrim) is a perfect fit.

From your comments, the deck is mostly a 'solved' one, so a bit of research and hopefully less than $20-$25 to supplement what's in my collection, and it should be enough for my metagame.

Thank you!
