Title: Atraxa - Superfriends
Post by: KingKia on October 05, 2021, 09:47:28 am
Hi everyone,
I did a primer for my Atraxa - Superfriends deck, which I'm playing for 2 years now.
There are many ways to play this deck and there are many Planeswalker to use in this deck. But after two years I think that I tried most of them and find the best for my own strategy.

I look forward to your suggestions and constructive criticism.

I have a few questions.

What is the right situation to use Aminatou's ultimate ability? If you are able get Aminatou's loyalty that high you must have a pretty good boardstate. Are you going to want to switch your boardstate with someone else at that point?

Is the combo with The Chain Veil (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=The+Chain+Veil) and Teferi, Temporal Archmage (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Teferi%2C+Temporal+Archmage) an infinite combo, or just a really good value play?

You're using a lot of spells that create creature tokens in order to protect your planeswalkers from combat damage. You're also using Tainted Aether (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Tainted+Aether) for the same purpose. What stops these cards from actively working against each other?

In the strategy section you mention that there are no planeswalkers with the text "you win the game". What do you think of Jace, Wielder of Mysteries (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Jace%2C+Wielder+of+Mysteries)?

There's no mention of Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Vorinclex%2C+Monstrous+Raider) anywhere. Isn't that also a really good doubling effect?

If you're using Primevals' Glorious Rebirth (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Primevals%27+Glorious+Rebirth), would you also want to use Eerie Ultimatum (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Eerie+Ultimatum)?

Would Bloom Tender (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Bloom+Tender), Faeburrow Elder (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Faeburrow+Elder), and Crystalline Crawler (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Crystalline+Crawler) be good mana ramp for this deck?

Aminatou's ultimate is more yolo then needed, since I'm not playing a flickering deck. The most important ability is her flicker (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=Flicker) in this deck.
Neverthless I already used her ability plenty, since you can ult her without a good board state.
For example, I can play aminatou and right after that I can also play deepglow skate (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=Deepglow+Skate) and ult her if someone else have a really good boardstate.
Her minus ability will also give you back your stolen stuff since it will bring it back under your control.

With Aminatou it can be an infinite combo.
Example boardstate:

1. Mana Vault (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=Mana+Vault)/Sol Ring (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=Sol+Ring)/Ancient Tomb (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=Ancient+Tomb)/Mana crypt (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=Mana+Crypt)
2. at least 3 Lands or any permanent which can produce mana
3. Aminatou, teferi and the Chain Veil (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=The+Chain+Veil)

lets say everything is tapped because you cast the chain veil (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=The+Chain+Veil) in this turn.

Now 4 you can use Teferi 4 times. Everytime untap chain veil and 3 mana producer (one of them have to generate at least 2 mana)
Tefery loyality should be 1 now.

You can also use aminatou 4 times. If needed use her plus ability 3 times and her minus ability to flicker (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=Flicker) teferi.

You can use teferi again 5 times.

Use aminatous minus

you can use teferi 9 times, and so on.

They are for different situations. Tainted Aether (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=Tainted+Aether) prevents the opponent from being able/wanting to play many creatures at all.
While the token generators ensure that I can defend myself against existing creatures.
I can also just sac tokens instead of lands so it is not a big problem to have both on board.

Valid point! But I have a huge problem with this jace. It will turn this deck into a Tainted pact (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=Tainted+Pact)/demonic consultation (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=Demonic+Consultation)/thassa's oracle (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=Thassa%27s+Oracle) deck and doesnt fit into the Planeswalker archetype.
Since I'm not running any of these cards, he is just the planewalker version of laboratory maniac (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=Laboratory+Maniac).

But if someone wants to play this, he can easily do, since this deck has a tainted pact (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=Tainted+Pact) mana base.

There's no mention of Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Vorinclex%2C+Monstrous+Raider) anywhere. Isn't that also a really good doubling effect?

He is way to expensive {4}(b)(b), but I should mention him in the single card discussion. I'll add it.

If you're using Primevals' Glorious Rebirth (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Primevals%27+Glorious+Rebirth), would you also want to use Eerie Ultimatum (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Eerie+Ultimatum)?

I already tried to replace Primevals' Glorious Rebirth (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=Primevals%27+Glorious+Rebirth) with Eerie Ultimatum (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=Eerie+Ultimatum) but wasn't able to use it since the mana costs are too difficult to met.
Primevals' Glorious Rebirth (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=Primevals%27+Glorious+Rebirth) was always better and there is no need to run both.

Would Bloom Tender (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Bloom+Tender), Faeburrow Elder (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Faeburrow+Elder), and Crystalline Crawler (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=en&card=Crystalline+Crawler) be good mana ramp for this deck?

Yep they are all good ones and they will synergize with Teferi, Who Slows the Sunset (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=Teferi%2C+Who+Slows+the+Sunset) (which is a new card) and Teferi, Temporal Archmage (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=Teferi%2C+Temporal+Archmage).
Bloom tender (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=Bloom+Tender) could replace the sakura tribe elder (https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?utf8=1&lng=de&card=Sakura-Tribe+Elder)! Thank you for this
