Deck Reviews / [Modern] CounterControl... but not what u think
« on: August 21, 2021, 03:55:46 pm »
I love to play Decks with Counters on them. That means u can control these cards like u want and as the Saga´s came out it just boosted my playstyle.

---Gameplan---
This Deck needs a bit of time and thats why i build it like im always a bit behind until im not. It can be very explosive with the amount of decisions u can have because u are getting so much effects.
The goal is to outvalue your opponent with every card.

---General Gameplay---
The first 2 turns i try to setup the board with all the Artifacts, Animation Module, Esper Sentinel, Mazemind Tome and Power Conduit.
Then i got the 3 drops which are going to start generating value and trying to stabilize the board like Elspeth´s Nightmare, The Raven´s Warning and Kitchen Finks.
Since i have so many good 3 drops i´m running Yehennis´s Expertise to wipe the board and but a good 3 mana card into play for free.
I dont mind to wipe my own creatures since i generate more with the sagas, Firja´s Retribution and The Raven´s Warning, and if Kitchen Finks dies it comes back for more lifegain.
At 5 Mana is where the real value sits. Elspeth Conquers Death removes a lot of threats permanently and Cavalier of Dawn does that to. I dont mind giving my opponent a vanilla 3/3.
Together they are looping until one of them is put into exile.
Tezzeret the Seeker works great with his +1 Ability and can put my needed Artifacts directly into play.

---Synergie and Card Explenation---
Power Conduit works with almost every card in this deck.
Power Conduit + Kitchen Finks         = lifegain, blocker and realy hard to remove creature since the Power Conduit can remove the -1/-1 counter as cost and not as effect
Power Conduit + Animation Module  = since u will always have some kind of creature on the field u can use the Animation Module to create even more
Power Conduit + any Saga              = controlable Saga´s. do i need to say more!? yes. u want to use the removed counter so just put it on your creatures -> Animation Module, Kitchen Finks, Esper Sentinel
Power Conduit + Mazemind Tome    = unlimited Card draw or scry

Animation Modules second ability is also useful. At the later stages of the game u can put a Lore counter on your sagas at instant speed. Elspeth´s Nightmare discard effect right after the draw step.
With the Animation Module it is also possible to trigger abilities of your sagas twice or more. Let the trigger happen and put the effect on the stag. Then remove a counter with Power Conduit and put with Animation Module another counter back on the saga -> 2 cards from your sideboard or 2 creatures are coming back 2 cards removed from the opponents hand usw. But u cant do that with the first ability since Animation Module requieres a counter on a permant.

Every other card is doing its job and is good with others. For example Esper Sentinel can grow to make u draw cards and the opponent needs to remove him as soon as possible.

---Finishers and Flavor---
Drana, Liberator of Malakir is great with Animation Module.
She makes ur board go wide and bigger.

Yahenni, Undying Partisan can use the Kitchen Finks, the Animation Module Tokens and the Saga Tokens to stay Undying.
His Haste is also usefull since the opponent doesnt expect 10+ damage out of nowhere with the Blade of the Bloodchief.

Raff Capashen, Ship´s Mage is pure Flavor since u can play almost every card with flash. Your opponent never knows whats coming.

What i like about the deck is, that your opponent sees every card you are using but since u have so many possibilities it can be hard to figure out what your gameplan is.
I play this deck mainly casual with some friends. Thats why i dont want to put unfair or not fun to play against cards in it.

So if u have any thoughts about the Deck pls let me know.
