You should really run some [[flowering of the white tree]] with all these legends!

Deck Reviews / (Modern) 5c Mutate - Vadrok + Double Major combo

Hey guys.

Been working on a deck idea around [[Vadrok, Apex of Thunder]] as a value piece that lets you recur non-creature spells. You also have the option to combo several ways. If you can get a chain going on a creature with [[double major]] targeting a mutating Vadrok, you can infinitely cast any non-creature spell in your graveyard, and create an infinitely large mutated creature.

- Cast Vadrok for its mutate cost targeting slippery bogle.
- cast double major, targeting Vadrok on the stack.
- let the original Vadrok resolve, and target double major which is now in the grave
- target the copies vadrok, creating a second copy of Vadrok on the stack
- let the first copied Vadrok resolve, which will now cause 2 triggers of Vadrok ability, both from the copy and the original.
- we can now cast double major again, and another spell like lightning bolt.

Essentially you can just follow a nice spellslinger bolt em out plan, or combo with infinite bolts/card draw/life gain. There’s also a single copy of [[insatiable hemophage]] which is a way to get around Leyline of sanctity.

You need to have a non-human creature to mutate onto, which means running something cheap with value, or something that has some protection. My two choices were ragavan and slippery bogle.

I feel like this deck could be Jeskai, with the green added only from maybe a single shock or triome, or from manamorphose, and then drop the hemophage.

Any suggestions would he much appreciated!

Thanks for reading :)

Deck Reviews / UB Crackdown Construct - Deck Brew Help
« on: March 02, 2023, 10:11:03 pm »
Hi Guys!

I am fairly new to Pioneer and wanted to brew a deck around Crackdown Construct. I'm after some help on reducing this down to an efficient 60 cards, and for any cool things I may have missed - I am super interested to see what you might suggest!

The idea of the deck is to have out Crackdown Construct, and then also something with an activated ability that costs 0, and activate the ability infinitely to buff crackdown construct.

The ways to do this are to use:

Valki, who will let us activate his X ability to copy a card exiled with him for 0 mana, such as stonecoil serpent or hangarback walker or ornithopter.
Wandering Fumarole which for 4 mana can turn into a 1/4, with an ability that costs 0 mana to switch its power and toughness around.
Lazav who can copy the 3 XX/X/0 cost creatures for 0 mana.

You can cast stonecoil or hangarback for x = 0 to get these in the graveyard easily.

The deck utilizes some control elements with thoughtseize, stubborn denial, and metallic rebuke - I wonder if I should lean more heavily on this to protect my combo?

Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge is sort of pet card here I admit, but his ability to get creatures affinity to artifacts can help us easily cast some of our colourless creatures/artifacts, and can also let us cast a stonecoil or hangarback for larger X values without actually having to pay the mana for it. His static is amazing, and his first + and - abilities are very relevant to the deck.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks!

Took out Nyxthos, Land Tax, and Annointed Procession as they were adding up to nearly 50% of the value of the whole deck.

Added 1 plains, yoked ox, and ugins conjurant.

Hi guys, I want to make a mono green counters deck on a budget, and have found these cards that I would like to include. Now I just need help getting it focuses and streamlined, and down to 60 cards (and suggesting how many forests to add).

Can you guys help?

I also need some help making a budget sideboard for it too, so any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Here's a casual list I use, you could cut the Kalonian and Primodrial Hydras as well as the Nykthos to bring it down under your budget. Replace the Nykthos with basic lands. Voracious Hydra could slot in for some of the hydras your taking out and then add in something like Nature's Claim or Naturalize to give you a little removal. Arbor Elf would always be a possibility for even more ramp.

Not sure how well it would handle in a FNM (probably not too well), but it meets the other requirements of what it sounds like you're wanting. So it might not be a bad starting point.

Thanks, this is really helpful!

Can you tell me what you think of this budget counters deck I made up please?

I like the idea of this because it's budget and the theme seems to work nicely.
