Deck Reviews / [EDH / Commander] Chainer, Dragon Storm (Mini-Primer)

Chainer, Dragon Storm

So this list I brewed about 5 years ago and hadn't built it until I saw Chainer, Nightmare Adept get printed. He does pretty much everything the list needed, which is basically haste enabling and a discard outlet. The ability to cast creatures from your hand or graveyard with haste by discarding them first and then casting them has been so much more powerful than I expected. For example, Goblin Welder is actually insane with Chainer.

Your game plan is to win by putting multiple dragons into play at once. You can do this easily using Dragonstorm, Patriarch's Bidding and Living Death. There are multiple combinations of dragons that can kill the table or enable a bigger play that kills the table.

Black Red has insane acceleration tools, as well as tutors and access to draw in the form of wheels. I won't go into those combos much as I assume if you are looking at a list like this, you know a thing or two. I will highlight two cards in particular that I think are worth noting: Burnt Offering and Sacrifice. These two cards combined with the dragons make for some egregiously explosive plays.

I run a small Dark Depths package with Vampire Hexmage, Thespian's Stage and Mirage Mirror. It's a plan B, but can be a combo enabler with Knollspine Dragon and Disciple of Bolas.

Sangromancer and Waste Not are broke with a few wheels. I don't run much setup cards, but these two have blown my mind.

The Manabase colors feel great, still tweaking the exact lands though. The cycle lands Forgotten Cave and Barren Moor as well as Rakdos Carnarium are currently in question.

Here are a few dragon combinations that win you the game:

Worldgorger Dragon + Animate Dead/Necromancy/Dance of the Dead (Now that that is out of the way)

Off Dragonstorm or Patriarch's Bidding/Living Death:

2:
Bogarden Hellkite/Scourge of Valkas + Knollspine Dragon
-Draws a 4 or 5 card new hand and bins the old hand

Dragonlord Kologhan + Dragon Mage
-Wheel in combat plus 11 damage up top

3:
Bogarden Hellkite/Scourge of Valkas + Knollspine Dragon + Lathliss, Dragon Queen
-Stack your ETB triggers so Knollspine Dragon resolves last. The math changes for Dragonstorm or Patriarch's Bidding/Living Death.
-Example: Scourge of Valkas + Knollspine Dragon + Lathliss, Dragon Queen = deal 25 direct damage, discard hand, draw 25. The scaling gets out of hand fast.

Utavara Hellkite + Dragonlord Kologhan + Scourge of the Throne
-52 Damage over 2 Combats and leaves you with 71 power on board including 6 6/6 untapped dragons

Once you get to 4 dragons, it gets outta control. there are multiple ways to kill the whole board with or without combat.

Kokusho, the Evening Star Steel Hellkite and Hellkite Tyrant are silver bullets and needed effects

Anyway, the list is broke and there is nothing better than killing people with dragons at a cEDH table. I've also found that casual players don't mind being killed by BR dragons. Its perfect for all tables.

If you have any thoughts drop a line. I'd love to hear some feedback or criticism.

Thanks
