I would love to see the sideboard finished on this deck.  Looks fun, I'm sorry I can't contribute in German or.....maybe Google translate.

Ich würde gerne das Sideboard auf diesem Deck fertig sehen. Siehst du lustig aus, es tut mir leid, dass ich nicht auf Deutsch oder ... vielleicht vielleicht Google übersetzen kann.

G/W Cats may look innocent, but in a format full of aggro, its fast creatures and life gain make it a purrfect choice!

Craig thank you for your regular innovation. Here are my results from the Regionals in Cary, NC. I played your Mono-White Soldiers deck with very limited alterations. I'll paste my deck list at the end of my comments. We had just under 200 players with 8 rounds of Swiss. Here's my record for the day:

Match 1 - 1-2 (loss) vs. Abzan Aggro
Match 2 - 0-2 (loss) vs. B/U Control
Match 3 - 2-1 (win) vs. Jeskai Burn
Match 4 - 0-2 (loss) vs. Jeskai Aggro
Match 5 - 2-1 (win) vs. B/U Control
Match 6 - 2-1 (win) vs. B/U Ashiok & Sphinx Mill
Match 7 - 0-2 (loss) vs. Abzan Midrange
Match 8 - Drop

You're right Preeminent Captain is the man...er the Kithkin in this deck. When I had him and anything this else in my hand it hits them from the blind side when as often or not an opponent just let him come in unblocked when choosing not to trade their sole creature.

Kytheon was out in every game but flipped only once as it drew attention reasoably quickly. But it did provide a home for Hero's Blade occassionally.

Hero's Blade was a staple for me and found itself almost perpetually attached to Anafenza but for me more often with Brimaz. Only in the late matches did I need to use Relic Seeker to find the blade, it was more often than not finding its way on to the battlefield organically drawn.

Dromoka's Command was my bane today in the Jeskai matchups repeatedly clearing off my best threats before they could apply any pressure or go Renown.

Wingmate was solid from the sideboard as well as Valorous Stance. Raise the alarm was boarded in but saw only limited play as it was not often drawn in the numbers that I played.
Abzan Falconer did provide some serious air-whoopin' in a couple of games but I wouldn't pull it out. It was just a little slow.
Ajani saw a lot of play and provided some serious push but never went minus as the board state only once would have benefited from massed fliers but he was 'downfalled' the turn before my minus.
I don't think I'm the one to figure out the changes in the sideboard or main but I know I needed Glare of Herasy or Banishing Light on more than a few occassions. I had Spear of Heliod in my sideboard and it helped me in the later matches to punish damage dealing creatures and pump my field.

Elspeth now seems like a one-of no brainer in the sideboard. She is just so versatile and fits into many situations. Nykthos was on the field in half the games and never used. By the time it could have been useful my hand was already pretty lean. Perhaps in connection with Mastery of the Unseen but as it is it was an informative experiment that proved the negative inclusion. I think I would much rather have a couple of Foundry of the Consuls as a mana sink and left handed threat.
Had I been running a devotion theme with Heliod, reaching 5 would have been a better than 50% proposition and would argue for the inclusion of Spear if the deck went that direction.
Two other outliers are worth mentioning: Hallowed Moonlight (brought to my attention by some chatty tablemates) and Archangel of Tithes. Moonlight would have helped me against the Control matchups with their creative creature entry and Archangel would have given me a evening aspect to my deck in the middle late game against the Abzan and creature fights.
I hope you turn your hand to this deck again for continued innovation. Most importantly this is an honest deck that is just so much fun to pilot. I think it is worthy of some attention before 2015 rotates out and our beloved Captains are banished to the ether.

Cheers and keep deckbuilding

White Weenies 4 Days (Undoing) by Craig Wescoe

http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/article.asp?ID=12670&writer=Craig+Wescoe

This deck is as white weenie as it gets! It runs a total of 28 one-drop creatures, 24 of which have two power. The idea is to flood the board with as much power as possible as fast as possible and then to reload with Day's Undoing. Against many decks this will yield at least a three-for-one card advantage – even more so when on the play against an opposing hand that just wants to play tapped lands the first couple turns.

Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit and Spear of Heliod are two ways to make the weenies bigger while Kytheon, Hero of Akros and Herald of Anafenza can grow bigger on their own while also granting additional value.

The key combo in the deck, however, is Spirit of the Labyrinth + Day's Undoing. When we assemble this combo, everyone loses their hand but instead of drawing seven new cards, the opponent just gets one card (and we get zero, but who cares? We're already far ahead). So it essentially acts as a full Mind Twist as early as the third turn.

I considered replacing the two Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirits and four Herald of Anafenza with four Ornithopter and two Springleaf Drum. That would make the deck even more explosive and would allow for some super nutty draw. Considering the following opening hand:

Springleaf Drum, Kytheon, Hero of Akros, Day's Undoing, two Plains, three Ornithopter

Turn 1: Plains, Springleaf Drum, three Ornithopter, Kytheon, Hero of Akros.
Opponent: Temple, scry to the top
Turn 2: Plains, attack with two Ornithopters and Kytheon, flipping Kytheon, and then using the third Ornithopter to activate Springleaf Drum to cast Day's Undoing.

That's a pretty strong play when all the opponent has out is a tapped land. They have to shuffle away their seven cards for a new random seven cards while we get to draw seven cards from our empty or nearly empty hand and get to keep our board of three creatures, a drum, two lands, and a planeswalker. Seems fair, right?

I'm not sure which version is better, but each has merit. Post-board Valorous Stance comes in against Green midrange decks, Arashin Cleric against red decks, Vryn Wingmare against any deck aiming to cast Drown in Sorrow or Anger of the Gods (Esper, Mardu, Abzan), and Pacifism comes in against decks that plan on blocking.

Magic Origins has a lot of fun cards to work with. These three decks do powerful things. With a bit of tuning, whichever one you decide to battle with can be ready for you to pilot to victory at your first Standard tournament with Origins! Choose your weapon wisely and have fun crushing the competition.

Deck Reviews / [Modern] Burn with Wild Nacatl by Pascal Maynard

Burn with Wild Nacatl by Pascal Maynard

Burn with Wild Nacatl

An idea that I've been theoretically toying around recently is just to add Wild Nacatl to a stock Burn list. Here's what I should have played:

You can play this powerful 1-drop at almost no cost, with 12 fetches that you already used to get a Stomping Ground and a Sacred Foundry as soon as possible anyway. Copperline Gorge was added over 2 Mountains as a way to make sure to not get too many awkward basic-Mountain-heavy hands unable to cast the Cat.
Having twelve 1-drops also increases the chance of turn-one creature, turn-two double creatures, turn-three Atarka's Command for effectively lethal when unchecked.
There is unfortunately a downside in having that many creatures: the late-game topdeck factor, which is better when your deck is filled with direct damage spells rather than creatures that can be blocked or killed. This downside is not to be ignored, but I believe overall you are making your main deck better.
Having a green creature also gives you a better chance at beating cards like Kor Firewalker, Dragon's Claw, and Burrenton Forge-Tender.

The split between Lightning Helix and Searing Blaze depends on what you are expecting, having 4 Searing Blaze would make the list cleaner, however there are a few decks in the metagame that have close to no targets for the removal. Helix at least goes to the face and has the ability to gain you some extra turns as much as Searing Blaze would sometimes.
The sideboard is very straightforward, nothing new here—Deflecting Palm is spicy, great against Infect and the mirror.
Until next time, have fun playing this Zoo-esque Burn list!

Went 2-2 Drop at a 88 player IQ in Raleigh, NC today.

Won against black 2-0
Won against Naya 2-0
Lost to U/W Control 0-2
Lost to B/G dredge 1-2

Was able to side board in Spear and Godsend sideboarded in and onto the board.  Spear cost him one creater and gave me some +1 but wasn't a game changer, nor was Godsend against the B/G deck.

I'm thinking about a couple of cards coming back in, on the list are the following

God's Willing
Banishing Light
Celestial Flare

Went 2-2 drop at a small TCG with this deck last night.

Lost to G/R Monsters
Won against Mono-Black
Won against Mono-Black
Lost to Junk

General thoughts, I haven't turned the side board for G/R monsters and what usually happens is that I just get an untenable board state and flooded with his creatures and its a race for damage which I can't win.

The black decks were just a card or two shy of the winning StarCity decks and you add that to the fact that sometimes you just don't draw the cards you need from your library.  I went 2-0, 2-0 with quick wins against black.  A nice turn around as I was starting to get a complex about playing black decks with hex (which has been a big achilles heal for me).

Lost 0-2 to Junk in the last game with Ajani, Mentor of Heroes putting him over the top.  My life total ran up to 37 in that game and he ran Ajani up past eight but never ultimated, just keep stacking on the counters on with dragons until I was overwhelmed.  He first three bombs I luckily dealt with from the timely draws of Selesnya charm which make instant speedy work of his big green creatures.

I thinking about swapping 2 Boros charms out for 2 Warleader's Helix.  Despite the higher casting cost of reduced options it does give you the often much needed life gain as well as the ability to deal 4 to creature or player, the creature piece was need last night.

I would enjoy hearing feedback and I will continue to update my changes and results.
