General Magic / Discussion on Mechanics, Strategy Concepts or Ideas.
« am: Mai 02, 2019, 06:45:51 Nachmittag »
I was thinking about magic this morning and this idea for a mechanic popped into my head.  It was the type of idea that would hopefully lead to discussion so having no where else to go (or no one else to talk to regarding magic) here we are...

I was wondering what the implications on a game would be if you could, as a mechanic, substitute a trigger for another trigger without altering the ability in any way.

Like say for example, create an enchantment permanent that would allow a player to a substitute the trigger of "landfall" to say "tap" on every card on the battlefield (just yours or world).  A wording specific enchantment similar to an Arcane Adaptation.  I would make it a Blue Green spell (Simic).

I was thinking about strategies one could play (for you or against them since you could cast the enchantment on their battlefield and change triggers as well.)

"Simic Arcane Catatlyst" I would call it (since in terms of flavor it seemed to work best here)

Anyways, the following came to mind:

Change "Tap" into "sacrifice (or die)" or "sacrifice creature", each time you want to use the ability; almost like putting a lock on an ability.

Double tap for say a card with a mana cost and tap.  (You are only replacing one part of a sequence with another, so replace the mana cost with another tap.  So at some point in their turn they have to use an untap ability against this card just to use the second tap trigger to activate ability.

Turn a tap into a mana cost instead; obvious advantages, with even a limit of the cards CC min for the swap.

Enter the battlefield into whenever they attack.

The list goes on.   My point being a discussion of the merits or disadvantages of such a mechanic and can it be used for tournament strategies.

Every idea or comment is useful so don't be shy and post one...

I'm merely trying to create a discussion on that general concept or idea for shared enjoyment of the game. (I could care less if it became an actual card; just to temper any actual discussion.)  Details are just to visualize.

(If I was playing this deck against someone I'd  replace  two of the Goblin King cards in the deck with them.  Just breed goblins.)

Goblin Chainwhirler - good sideboard if you ever face another token deck...

Its a pretty good deck, good character for a theme deck.  I like the imagination behind it.  It makes you think about strategy.

(Phyrexian Altar would be my one good suggestion to be sideboarded for mana; for building faster a faster battlefield with the mana heavier creatures or more of the ones that make them cheaper.)

That's a great card; for a bit of card finesse, try using your Volley Veteran's from your side board as a combo with the Throne of the God-Pharoah, (since they're going to be attacking anyway, might as well do the extra damage), trade out the four Mogg War Marshal for them.

(it all comes down to the wording of the rules towards these; personally I don't think it was an issue until now)

Dryad Arbor and Arcane Adaptation would be a good combo (if you added blue to this); make every creature a "Land Creature" that also tap for mana??

I'm not familiar with the casual format, but I saw this artifact Animation Module and thought it would fit into this deck pretty well.  I was also looking for anything that could control target permanent (for lands) for green that could be used against your opponents, but didn't find any...
