Deck Comments / Re: 8 Rack - Comments

I love seeing new 8Rack players!

Some cards that are worth the investment are Inquisition of Kozilek, Thoughtseize, and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. A little pricey but they can help a ton with single-target discard and making your black-mana-intensive mana base work well with your man lands. Liliana of the Veil is not a cheap card, but if you don't mind the extra mana Liliana, Waker of the Dead works just as good if not better than her 3-mana cousin and even has a sick ult that by itself can win you the game.

For extra discard I also like Wrench Mind in a not-artifact-heavy meta and Raven's Crime makes use of your extra lands if you've already topped out on your curve.
People talk about Urza's Saga for 8Rack and in my experience it's not great but if you can afford a few you might have a better experience than I did when I was testing.

Rootin' for ya! Rock the [heck] on!

I noticed you have Karmic Guide but not Reveillark. Karmic Guide + Reveillark + Sacrifice outlet (Altar of Dementia is my favorite for the value) makes an infinite loop where karmic guide dies, reveillark dies but in doing so brings back Karmic Guide and another 2-power thing (an ETB drain effect, Acidic Slime land destruction, etc) and Karmic Guide brings back Reveillark. I'd also put in Blighted Woodland for the ramp.

IDK your group's preferred power level but I wanted to let you know this was a thing. Great deck, I love me a good Golgari Grave-Troll now and again! Happy brewing!

If you don't mind it being 4 mana, Liliana, Waker of the Dead has a great +1 that works when they're hellbent, a game-ending ultimate, and it WAY cheaper than Liliana of the Veil which is my other suggestion. Reusable discard will be your friend in matchups against value decks like Zoomer and Saga Jund. Force of Despair is a good sideboard card that's done me wonders in the past, but finding ways to deal with problems in your meta will be key for the SB. Tron, Jund Variants, maybe even UR Murktide might give you some issues but in my experience UWx Control and Burn will be your 60-40 matchups in your favor but no matchup is certain which was the biggest weakness I found in my own 8Rack deck. But you'll do great as long as you focus on what the deck is supposed to do and fashion yourself a meta-killing sideboard. Good luck!

Other than the illegal Anowon I love the deck! Hope you don't mind if I copy the deck to use as a reference for my buddy's rogues deck at my LGS. Inspirational deck, rock on!

General Magic / Your Magic the Gathering Journey in 3 Decks
« am: Februar 22, 2022, 04:28:20 Nachmittag »
Hey everyone, first time posting but longtime user of the deckbuilder.

A thought occurred to me semi-randomly, but I wondered what ya'll would say to this:
Take three (3) decks you own or have made the list for here that best represent where you started, where you are, and where you seem to be going.
I'll start:
1.https://deckstats.net/decks/21608/2325261-jolrael-empress-of-beasts, my first commander deck from many years ago. Jolrael, Empress of Beasts was my first legendary card ever, and mono green stompy was how I started playing MTG
2.https://deckstats.net/decks/21608/2245482-grixis-death-s-shadow-feat-lur, my Lurrus Death's Shadow deck. It symbolizes how much thought I now put into the game in terms of deckbuilding and gameplay and my thirst for optimization and competitive edge.
3.https://deckstats.net/decks/21608/2425529-gruul-stompy, a deck I'm finishing in real life that I put together on my own. This deck symbolizes taking my lessons from past and present and applying them into a whole new concept that keeps the flavor of my roots.

Now it's your turn. Post 3 of your decks that symbolize parts of you and your magic the gathering journey!

I love people still fighting the good fight with mono black 8Rack!
My suggestions:
maybe -1 or -2 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth as multiples in hand are dead cards and could be other swamps or utilitiy/man lands. Also, Chalice of the Void is pretty darn rough for decks like this, so having Ratchet Bomb or Engineered Explosives in the sideboard helps, unless you can find something that works with Saga. Also, efficient board wipes like Bontu's Last Reckoning, Force of Despair and Damnation (if you can get a few, I know they're $$$$) can be very helpful in some matchups, but I don't know your meta so idk what to say about that. It's not a budget friendly card but Liliana of the Veil has won me games before, though I could only manage to get 1.
Take it from someone who ran 8Rack for a number of years, it can feel like an uphill battle sometimes. But, perseverance and good deck technology can get you far with a rogue deck like this! Rock on, you get my +1!

Looks like a great brew! Firebrand Archer is always powerful in this kind of deck, but I'm wondering what the Kiln Fiends in the sideboard are for? All in all it looks fun to play and play against!

Loving the budget brew! Heartfire Immolator and Chandra's Incinerator are cards I would never have thought of, great ideas!

good maybeboard full of ideas! if you've got them, Teferi's are good ideas for card draw and sometimes as a win con, and snapcaster or similar effects help extend the life of your answers. a good budget counterspell is Mana Leak, but also Logic Knot (especially if your graveyard just sits there). Unburial Rites is literally one of my favorite cards in the game, but it might not be doing you as many favors here as you'd like. another good answer that's relatively not too expensive is Fatal Push as it takes out a good chunk of the meta's creatures. Thoughtseize is good but also around $20-$30, so I recommend Inquisition of Kozilek to look through their hand and take out a good chunk of the meta's nonlands before they even play them. If you can get it I also recommend Kaya's Guile as it can wreck certain decks and just overall is a solid card with good value.
Check lands, basics and a Fabled Passage or two should stitch the mana base together until a couple Godless Shrine's and Watery Graves and Hallowed Fountain's can be acquired.
pure creatures and counters IS a possibility if planeswalkers are out of reach (this is a budget deck after all) but you'll want some small and efficient creatures to block in addition to finishers, unless you want the deck to mainly be esper reanimator. this information is based on the many UWx control builds I've faced.
I love the spirit, good luck on the deck building!

Deck Reviews / [EDH / Commander] Empress of Beasties (EDH)
« am: September 20, 2014, 06:09:59 Vormittag »
Empress of Beasties (EDH)

This is a remake of my first EDH deck. The commander, Jolrael, makes a player's lands into creatures for a turn. I mostly use this to trample people with creatures and forests. There's still many cards I need to get for this deck, particularly stuff like Avenger of Zendikar. The idea is to pump out as many lands as possible then either bash face with Jolrael's ability or use the mana for other big creatures which aid in the bashing in of the face. Perfect in many 1v1 situations, and oddly enough isn't shut down immediately upon boardwipe. If you want to copy it down and try it yourself be my guest, though I'd say add your own ideas to it as this is far from perfect.
If it says 101 cards I've fixed it already.
