11/10/17 - FNM:

4 Rounds again. This tournament was really brutal for the deck. I'm learning a lot about bad matchups. Still making stupid mistakes.

Round 1: BG Constrictor vs my friends stupid mono-black jank thing 1-2-0
Game 1: Opp drew 0 of his creatures, push and contempt fell dead in the hand. Won the game to beatdown with constrictor and ballista.
Game 2: Sided out all my removal. Opp drew only creatures. Definitely thought his deck had near 0. I was so wrong. Lost to drawing none of own creatures.
Game 3: Had to mull to 5. Drawing cards is a really bad game plan against a deck that discards your stuff for damage...

Round 2: BG Constrictor vs BU Control 0-2-0
Game 1: Opp was in Counter magic city. Couldn't land a threat.
Game 2: I had a ballista with 5 counters and he cast Essence Extract targeting it. My brain died, and I thought it was dying, so I threw 5 counters at his face. Probably could have won.

Round 3: BG Constrictor vs RW Approach 2-0-0
Game 1: Wow! Ballista + Raptor works against a deck without black or blue!
Game 2: His deck was actually pretty sweet. I thought that RW had no tricks other than Sunbird's Invocation, but Combustible Gearhulk is scary. I pulled through though.

Round 4: BG Constrictor vs BG Constrictor 0-2-0
Game 1: Got fairly excited to see a mirror. Turns out his list was probably more realistic. Running Bristling Hydra over Ripjaw Raptor and finding room for Rhonas, the Indomitable.
Game 2: Got completely run over by Hydra and Rhonas.

All in all, I am really thinking about making some heavy changes or just getting off the deck in general. I've thought about cutting the Energy package since Attune with Aether just doesn't feel good for me. I don't know what I would replace it with. I have also considered going harder in the Energy with Bristling Hydras. I've thought about splitting into a different color, like into Jund or into Abzan. I would do Sultai, but I can't afford the 85$ for 2 Scarab God and $40 for Hostage Taker. Idk, I'll see how things go.

11/3/17 - FNM(pre-deck update):

The tournament had a lot more participation and went 4 rounds.

Round 1: BG Constrictor VS Sultai Energy (Pummeler) 0-2-0
Game 1: Had 2 Vraska's Contempt get Oblivioned away. Never really had a foothold.
Game 2: Didn't see any of my sideboard cards. Got Opp down to 3, they had to block my Ripjaw Raptor. Ripped Walking Ballista off the top with 4 mana open and a Constrictor. Jammed it down, but forgot about the extra counter from Constrictor, so I threw one to a Pummeler. Realized after the Pummeler died and I had passed, so I didn't think I could go back. Learned later I should have been able to. Oh well.

Round 2: BG Constrictor VS Mardu Vehicles 2-0-0
Game 1: I was able to remove all his stuff and eat through mine getting killed. Got off the dream of Gearhulk with a Constrictor and 3 other creatures already on the board. Smashed.
Game 2: Opp was only drawing his creatures, while I had gas the whole time.

Round 3: BG Constrictor VS UW Approach 1-2-0
Game 1: Never do I ever want to get Approach-into-top-deck-Approach'd again. He had answers.
Game 2: Opp kept a 2-lander with no immediate action. I had turn 1 Duress to keep him off his cycling. Turn 2 Duress to keep him further off. Snowballed that advantage into a game-win.
Game 3: The choice that lost this game was: had a Constrictor and a Raptor on board, and 6 mana up with a Ballista in hand. Opp had 4 mana up. IDK what I thought would happen, but I figured it would be better to cast Ballista after combat. Got completely rekt by Settle the Wreckage.

Round 4: BG Constrictor VS 4c Energy 1-2-0
Game 1: Got Gonti'd, he got a Ripjaw. Had to contempt it. Felt bad man. Game was real close, but I wasn't able to convert an advantage.
Game 2: I had straight gas. t2 Constrictor into t3 Constrictor into Ballista for x=2 into Rishkar. Won on turn like 6.
Game 3: Game was pretty close, but boiled down to a top-deck war. Opp gained life from various effects, I didn't. Ripped Torment of Hailfire, but only had 7 mana. Tried bluffing an Attune as Push for a couple turns and got completely destroyed for it. Opp went down to 15 from 21 after discarding. He had 17 energy and topped a Virtuoso that I couldn't properly deal with. Yahenni's Expertise got me a chance in the mid-game before that, but ultimately I lost.

I felt like the deck still performed well, despite my terrible record. I would have had a better chance if I was a mechanically better player. Going to make the updates listed in the description and hope I can do better this weekend.

10/27/17 - FNM(pre-deck update):

The tournament at my LGS didn't have an exceptionally high number of players, so there were only 3 rounds.

Round 1: BG Constrictor VS BU Control - 1-1-1
Game 1: Had to mull to 4 to get a hand with land and action. Opp flooded out. Game won.
Game 2: Nothing really stood out to me this game, so I don't remember much. Likely, Scarab God and a Torrential hit and I didn't have answers. I remember it being a fairly close game, but that's all.
Game 3: Ended in a draw (time in round). I was in a good state, but just didn't have enough to close it out

Round 2: BG Constrictor VS Temur Energy 1-1-0
Game 1: Man, Bristling Hydra is brutal. Game was a good fun brawl, but resulted in a loss.
Game 2: Took game 2 for a draw. Opponent had some misplays, Blossoming Defense came in big. Opp took a long time to make decisions...

Round 3: BG Constrictor VS BU Control 2-0-0
Game 1: Was able to line up Vraska's Contempt on The Scarab God. Ripjaw Raptor put in a lot of work. Drew probably 5 cards from just 1.
Game 2: Was a bit more difficult for me. Saw 0 of my sideboard cards, which would have helped. Won with ripping a Torment of Hailfire for 9 mana and 15 damage.

Didn't get anything for prizing since the tournament was small. Learned that I need to not tank as much, but that will stop the more I play the deck. Overall, fairly happy with the performance of the deck.
