Deck Reviews / [Casual] Budget BG Value

Budget BG Value

Play value creatures and hate cards and make your oppenents hate you for having a better deck.

Get 2-for-1's with Consume Strength whenever possible. Dropping Briarhorn for surprisingly good blocks can also yield 2-for-1's.

Ideally, put Snake Umbra on your Vault Skirge and kill all their fliers to get an extra card each turn.

Ambush Viper is sometimes better kept in hand until later in the game, to use as removal.

At time of building, all cards in the list were approximately 25c at Card Kingdom.

You really need to run more lands in this deck. For a 60 card deck, 24 lands is a good starting point, or close to 40% of your deck. It will help you cast your spells more consistently :)

akroan horse is much too slow for this deck...

also, I think you should probably go the full four copies of rabblemaster. Maybe drop a purphoros to make room? rabblemaster is just that good, especially when you can get more than one out.

What I would suggest:

Manamorphose
maybe Gitaxian Probe

and probably trim the number of preordains, because you don't get a lot of blue mana

sanguine bond and exquisite blood are a combo, and unblockable creatures are a good way to trigger it.

However, I wouldn't consider this a budget deck when you have a playset of cryptic command... that card really isn't cheap o.O

28 is a lot more land than this deck needs :) I would suggest you try around 24 for starters. also, you should probably run some cards to help you find your combo pieces; perhaps run some tutors eg. Rhystic Tutor, or expand to three colours with blue for cards like Ponder and Preordain. It's not very reliable to just hope that you will run into the right two cards before your opponent kills you :)

This does look pretty good for $20, but there are plenty of "$250" decks that would mince this. A strong control deck won't care about your -1/-1 counters, and you probably can't aggro them to death before they wrath the board. Many popular combo decks, such as Scapeshift or Splinter Twin will go virtually unanswered by this deck; and you will have a hard time against a Melira combo deck. Also, tron, reanimator, or monogreen infect aggro would give this a very hard time. haha not trying to steal your thunder, this would play well against many casual decks and some competitive decks costing much more, but the title is a little exaggerated :p

A few thoughts here - firstly, good on you for playing monored in standard, it doesn't get the love that it should these days.

Second, is that in aggro it's generally safe to assume you won't have spare mana. As cool as stuff like Act on Impulse and Soul of Shandalar is, they are used when you have spare mana, and are too slow for this deck. You might sideboard in a few bigger creatures if you're facing a slow control deck, but sideboards come after you've got a good main deck.

Having creatures with haste built in is a great way to get back after having your creatures killed, because it can let you hurt them when their defences are down. I would suggest you find more of these to play in your deck. IMO haste is just one of the funnest things about playing aggro :)

Finally, it is good to have some direct damage cards to finish off your opponent - there's nothing worse than getting them down to one life and then not being able to get any of your creatures through. Spells like Shock, Lightning Strike and Skullcrack are great here.

Keep it up, and before you know it you'll think turn three victories take too long :)

I can't deny that this looks extremely powerful. But, when half of your deck is Power Nine, I struggle to imagine a situation where people would want to play against this deck after seeing what it does :/

I would like to see what this would be like if you tweaked it to be vintage legal.

I would suggest some card draw or tutor effects to help you find combo pieces, eg. harmonize. Bramblecrush and deadly recluse are alternative ways to kill stuff, and consign to dust is great late game.
